Birmingham documentary on Amazon

Watched the first episode today. It absolutely buries Rooney.
If he had any managerial credibility left after his Plymouth sacking, it’s likely to be gone now.

Sad in a way that such a good player turns into a figure to be ridiculed.

Brady comes across as your typical American gobshite.

He’s more embarrassing than Rooney.

He does aye, but when a documentary questions your work ethic as a coach, you’re basically finished.

I've been pretty impressed with Brady tbh. He's an elite sportsman not a businessman so he knows what it takes to get to the top.

He sensed what Rooney was about straight away.

I've watched the first three episodes, will watch the rest tonight. So far Brady comes across as an arrogant jerk, not unusual for a Yank  The Wrexham series is head and shoulders over The Brum effort.

Tom Brady received a four-game suspension for his role in the "Deflategate" scandal, where the New England Patriots were accused of using underinflated footballs in the 2015 AFC Championship game.

Clearly a top top player, but he's an ass

Arrogant yes but also a winner. He won't accept mediocrity so I expect they'll be a prem club quite soon

I'm also quite sure Brum will be in the PL in the not too distant future but it won't be because of Brady, it'll be due to Tom Wagner's money. Plus that'll be another Yank owner to sway votes

I thought the same, not a patch on our JJ's personality.

It also feels poorly produced. Watched the first two, but not sure I'll bother finishing it.

When I saw him in the Dyche, he had someone with him, but he was far far smaller than JJ.
More like someone who looks after the players or Bertie Bee than a bodyguard.

Sure the money is vital but you could tell Brady was driving the standards as well, probably puts pressure on the directors as well to spend.

I wouldn't have been that happy as a Birmingham fan watching them just taking the p1ss out of the training ground the first time they went there.

Not an American football fan then?

Brady was always in the top 1% for work ethic - but that was mainly to overcome his limitations as a quarterback. It's a bit like Gary neville saying that he's won more Premier league titles than any other right back so he's the greatest defender of all time.

And he treated his teammates (or some of them) like shite. We've all seen him getting hold of his teammates grills and shouting at them when they did something wrong.

JJ was a class above, and well done to him btw for calling out the cowboys last week.

There’s also one about Campobasso, in Serie C.
Two American tv presenters bought in when the club was dying in 2022.
It’s on ESPN here called Running with the Wolves.
It’s a little more easy going but worth watching if you can do a search for it.

10mins in to the Amazon show.

Thought Brady’s comment about Rooney was a disgrace. you can think someone’s a poor manager that’s your opinion but to question someone’s work ethic publicly especially someone who’s achieved what Rooney has in the game is poor. He might’ve been a big fish in American football but in English Football he’s achieved zilch, he might need to remember that especially digging out someone who’s achieved what Rooney has in the English game.

I don’t disagree, but it wasn’t just Brady’s comments. The set up was that he lacked charisma and the clip of him showing the team film made him look out of his depth and uncomfortable. That might be the truth of it, but it’s not often you see a documentary paint someone in such a bad light, particularly given Rooney’s standing in the game.

Isn't that the whole point of these documentaries to peer behind the curtain so to speak and see some of these conversations behind the scenes.

Everything I've heard about Rooney as a manager suggests Brady was absolutely right.

He might be a bad manager and his record shows that is probably the case that’s not an issue, but to question someone’s work ethic on the other hand is in my opinion below the belt. You don’t play from 16 to 35-36 like Rooney did in the premier league by having a poor work ethic it just doesn’t happen.

Ideally, yes, However, it’s still unusual. Someone like Rooney would normally be contractually protected from a character assassination. It’s not in his advisors/agents interests to make him look unemployable.

If they’d have just said the results under Rooney were crap and not shown Brady calling him lazy or the really awkward video room session, we’d have been none the wiser. His advisors have failed him.

We all know that Rooney was far from being ultra professional as a player, he was just such a talent that he'd get away with it. Why do you think he was finished at the top level by about 30?

I've heard numerous times that he is a lazy manager and only ever arrived at 9am with the players, where as most would be there a couple of hours before.
The results were crap, he was far from inspirational when speaking and he was lazy, Brady spotted it a mile off and fair play to him for that.

If they'd just had money men running it without an elite sportsman then Rooney might have got away with it for much longer.

Within the confines of the boardroom, I agree.

To question it on an international documentary is quite another thing and IMO extremely unprofessional.

I'm surprised some of the comments made it through the editing process, especially the converstaion with his mate, the buffoon in the back seat of the car at the training ground.

From the limited clip that I’ve seen Brady is having a conversation with a colleague that is being filmed candidly by a camera crew. He isn’t specifically making the comment for the documentary. Like you say though, this shouldn’t have made it through the editorial process presuming that BCFC had some control over this.

whilst its good for the fans to improve things, this set up makes it look like some lord of the manor chucking a few scraps out to appease the peasants.
I know they are genuine supporters, but this style of new ownership has a sickly feel to it.
its just ultra rich types wiping their boots on decades of tradition.
there is an arrogance and detatchment about they way they do business, might be effective, but it stinks somehow.

That’s the problem with Brady’s comments. He was more or less saying the players were lazy, and the coach which is fine if they weren’t the ones who potted a good manager for no reason whatsoever and hired the person to send them down.

If a documentary had been made about burnley prior to Dyche arriving, they would've laughed at our training facilities....

Rooney is a crap manager, its not some secret
He also had an iffy work ethic as a player, something widely known

Brady was an elite sportsman and will have high standards
He will bring that to Birmingham
He's aware they've made mistakes during their short tenure as owners

Not so sure on that one tbh, or are we forgetting Ravel Morrison?

Rooney wanted to be a professional footballer, he just remained rough round the edges with his smoking etc despite Fergie having him at Utd, but his wife probably takes huge credit for ensuring he had a long enough career, even if he cheated on her multiple times

Gazza was going to cause problems for any manager and he invariably did

I’m sorry but Rooney having an iffy work ethic as a player is extremely harsh, it was one of his big attributes his work rate.

Thing with Gzza that I always consider is he had horrific injuries in his peak years and at every club during those times. He already had demons, bad behaviour & dodgy characters around him. Add in months & months out with injuries on a regular basis and moving clubs/countries then it's easy to see why he got into bad habits, and ultimately really struggled later in his career and personal life. Who knows, Fergie might have done him good.

Didn’t the Yanks brink Rooney in first for no other reason he’d been a fanous player and possibly only one they’d heard off ? Let us not forget Will Ferrel wanting Pele to play at 74!
I thought Eustace’s sacking was a mess. Brady comes over like a total loud mouth American Clown with little if any football knowledge. Not sure how much brass they’re investing but the Championship can be a graveyard for the unprepared /under funded . At least JJ made a real effort and fully earned his cheerleading spurs .

Watne Rooney is a poor manager, seems he may well be a poor communicator. However he was an absolutely fantastic footballer one of the best this country has ever produced, it’s easily the washed over / forgotten
/ down played, but it’s a fact. He had the hunger to match the ability on the pitch.

Tom Brady - excellent pro/ mentality in a sport played by one nation. He comes across as an absolutely arrogant @@@@ not surprised Rooney didn’t listen to him about football, even if he had some points about standards in training Brady arrogant approach seemed awful.
