Not putting this on the transfer thread for reasons given on that thread but they have been discussing Broja.
Very mixed, most can't believe they may get up to 20 million for him saying that since his injury he has been poor but on the other hand some saying if he passes his medical it could turn out a good buy for us.
Time will tell as they say.

Are we a club that should be gambling with 20 million

The Maatsen fee Chelsea accepted on deadline day was reported by Sky as £32m. Matt Williams later denied it was anywhere near that figure.

My guess is that Chelsea or agents inflate the fee leaked to the press to make them look good (selling any fringe player on the cheap probably only devalues other fringe players they’re looking to ship) or they are open to doing heavily performance-based deals. I can’t see that we’ve guaranteed them £20m.

The not looking the same player post-injury comments are a tad worrying. Hopefully Parker can bring the best out in him.

A few days ago when this possible signing broke the mentioned fee was £10m + add ons, why has it suddenly doubled in a few days?

Depending where you looked it was ballpark £20m from the off it didn't double for some strange reason some of us halfed it on here probably to convince themselves we were getting some sort of a bargain.

No idea. Nobody credible has given any indication of fee. We don’t know what it is.

You don’t really hear about many player failing medicals do you. It makes you wonder how stringent they really are.

You’d expect few players are ever sold if they’re not fit to pass a medical, but on the rare occasion it does happen no club or player publicise it for obvious reasons.

If it’s true Cajuste travelled here then it wouldn’t surprise me if he’d failed his medical.

It's broadly believed it's up to £20m without being 100% nowhere near £10m unless you are including the add ons at 50% of the flat transfer fee which would be steep.

I've been through 3 pages of Google and all say £20 million. If anyone can cite the £10 million source it would be useful.

Personally don't believe we are going to pay £20 million but who knows.

There’s a poster on this board whose son carries out the medical ( or used to) and it’s very stringent apparently.

Think of it like an MOT at that point when it passes it's safe to drive it doesn't guarantee that the next day or there after. It's at the point there & then it's good.

Hmmmm

Has Broja ever failed a medical?

Yes, Armando Broja has failed a medical. His proposed loan move to Ipswich Town collapsed because he did not pass their medical examination due to an issue detected during the scans. Despite this, Everton signed him on loan from Chelsea, taking a calculated risk, as Everton’s medical criteria and financial position allowed them to accommodate Broja while he recovers, whereas Ipswich were more cautious given their status and resources

At £10m it’s a no-brainer of a signing but at £20m it’s more than a gamble.

Didn't Charlie Austin fail one at Hull back when he was with us and Steve Bruce released the info to the press and the reason for the failure and therefore we received a lower than expected offer from QPR when we sold him?

It’s not a gamble -if he costs £20 m it means he has played a lot of games/ we have avoided relegation/he has scored a number of goals etc etc

I agree if the specifics of the add ons stipulate that & it's achieved it's a no brainer & you would expect them conditions to be inserted. It still represents a gamble on the upfront though because at this juncture it cannot be determined if he's going to be a success. Every signing I guess you don't know there's varying elements of risk with them all.

The fee is anybodys guess, as usual it will be undisclosed.
There are 2 Brojas, the one when fit, and the one when not.
Hopefully any fee will be weighted depending on appearances and fitness and staying up. If he can prove all 3, 20 mill would be a bargain.

Austin's problems when with us were his dislocated shoulders but the news from Hull was that his knees were the problem but as far as I remember he never had a knee problem in his career.
There were some funny goings on when he was at Swindon and maybe that was the reason he had the knee problem at Hull.
I wish we could sign another Charlie Austin, or Danny Ings, Sam Vokes.

Quite. Ask this forum how much Koleosho is worth at the end of our last Premier league campaign, probably about £50-60 million. Now he's next to useless.

When I first saw Doc Iven as a kid he practised out of a terraced row on Brunshaw Road (‘Kelly’s Row’) at Pike Hill, before moving to the upstairs room of a cottage where the Pike Hill Spar is now. Downstairs was the branch library. Then he moved to the purpose built surgery on Finsley Gate

Yes, it was the St. Nicholas Health Centre at Finsley Gate (now known as Parkside Surgery at what used to be Prestige). Dr. Iven was just one of the doctors I saw there, along with the likes of Dr. Brew, Dr. Corkhill etc.

Thanks for that information, It’s over 50 years since I left Burnley, maybe I’m getting my memories mixed up. I most certainly remember the name Dr Iven, a buzzer would sound when it was your turn to see him. We lived on Brunshaw Rd just up the road from Pike Hill and I did go to Tod Rd Primary School, then on to Towneley Tech. I’ll talk to my sister, she still lives in England but not Burnley, having not left the country permanently maybe her memory is more clear.

Where was Dr Ivan before that? I saw him a couple of times when I was a young lad and we lived just off Coal Clough Lane next to Scott Park.
I'm sure I saw him once when I got bricked in the dark by a young lady who live up the back st. Fun times, I was probably about 8 or 9. Had a bruise the size of an egg on my forehead.

Doctors Griffiths, now I remember that name, they must have been our family doctors, not Dr. Iven. Man, I’m losing it  Yes, I’m aware Dr. Iven lived not far from us at Lodge House, it’s currently up for sale, can be yours if you have 461,000 quid hanging around  Google is my friend  You’re excellent at local knowledge and history, I guess that’s an advantage of still living in the area.

Would be a great signing if he stays match fit but I don't think any club would gamble more than £14....and it is a gamble.

My best mate is a Chelsea season ticket holder both home and away (yes they do an away season ticket). His take on the two potential signings are that they would be a good fit for us. They call the midfielder Les it is easier apparently and he reckons he will make Hannibal look like a saint in comparison.UTC

My family lived on Padiham Road and Clough Street in the 50s and 60s. If they phoned for a doctor, it was either Dr Iven or Dr Kerr. Surely they weren't based up Pike Hill to serve that area of Burnley?

Nope, but it was the sister of one of our “ bad boy posse” from the 80’s

To be honest I think we were only about 10 and it came out of the dark down the back street from where they lived. Seems like a fun game lobbing half bricks in the dark till you actually get clocked with one :(

I think Butch could have been Raymond Ashley, lived on Thirlmere. I knew Arthur (‘Ferg’, RIP) very well. Back in the 60s used to join in our kickabouts on land at the top of the smallholdings (ironically behind Doc Iven’s house). I got to know him better because we had a shared interest in American music, particularly soul music. He built up a massive collection. I continued to bump into him until not long before his death
