Hopefully no one is planning to head over this way via the train. I was on it last year after visiting a mate in Harrogate. The train was full all the way from Leeds and most stations along the way were packed with people who could not get on the train.

Unusual for a train to be full going into Blackpool. My experience is that the trains leaving Blackpool are usually the ones that are really full, as people scramble to get away from the place, before they end up stinking of Chips and Candy Floss. (only Joking!)

Gonna be the miserable one on this post but getting stuck on the M6 there and back fighting through crowds makes me avoid the area that weekend.

Lot's of other spots to go to where you get a good view though !

Any suggestions as to where it may be a bit quieter but with a decent view?

Being back the Vulcan. The hotels and shops used to shake when that beast put it's after burners on, it was an incredible sound..

I was lucky enough to see the Vulcan on its farewell flight over Rolls Rolls in Barnoldswick a few years back. It came in low and loud. Brilliant sight, unless you were the enemy of course. I believe it was used in anger during the Falklands War in 1982.

Used in anger? UK went to bonkers lengths to prove Argentina was in range for the Vulcans. It really wasn't in any realistic way, but achieved the aim nonetheless and was worth the ridiculous effort. One of many things US helped with - providing some fuel en route.

Red Arrows flightplans here:
https://www.military-airshows.co.uk/pre ... le2025.htm

We went to Blackpool last year. Lovely weather, and a great show.
I think the line-up is similar this year, so we probably won't go again.
We parked up on the rough land alongside the airport, easy enough for a fiver or so. It was a slow journey in though, M61-M6-M55 was slow going. I'd allow a couple of hours to make it over if I was driving.

Hi Leon, whereabouts is that parking? On the main road towards St Anne's? Thinking of heading over tomorrow.

Cheers.

The Olympus 301 engines on the Vulcan did not have afterburners that was a later addition for Concorde.

About 1400hrs the Red Arrows and a lone Spitfire came over Chester golf club en-route to Hawarden airport. It's a regular stopover for the display teams when in the North West. Had a great view of them and they were in formation 8-)

First left after the airport - I think it's called Hopwood Lane.

Went today. Wow that Typhoon is something else. It was followed by the Battle of Britain flight which looked like it was barely moving in comparison to. It got me thinking that if 80 years is the difference between the Typhoon and Spitfire imagine what the fighter jets will look like in another 80 years. Pilotless for sure.

Yes, Typhoon was the star for me last year. Incredible to see (and hear!)

Cheers. I'll add this to my reading list. I've always had an affection for Vulcan bombers after seeing two of them flying low over Scarborough castle when I was a kid. It felt like the ground was shaking.

Enjoyable day watching from St Annes beach.
Red Arrows always a joy to watch , Lancaster , Spitfire & Hurraine in Awre watching , especially hearing that Merlin engine.
The star of the show for entaininment was definitely the Typhoon.
Nightmare travelling though.

Hi, leon, thanks for this. We went on saturday and parked near there and walked up the prom. The traffic was a nightmare but was well worth it. Easy getaway afterwards as well.

I saw the Spitfire and what looked like a Dakota transiting over Carrington way yesterday afternoon presumably heading back to base.

Was louder than the A380 that had just passed over from takeoff at Manchester a few seconds before!

I was sitting in my garden (near Wetherby) on Sunday afternoon and suddenly the Lancaster flew over at 500 feet. Absolutely awesome!

(photos are from the last time it flew over)
