Re: Parker post match v Lazio
Didn’t sound overly optimistic on the 3 new lads for Spurs, but good that Ugochukwu played 60 mins in the other game today. Hopefully a good week of training with the team and he and Dubravka can come in.

Re: Parker post match v Lazio
Sounds like Dubravka and Broja are a little further away than Ugochukwa.
But even then doesn’t sound like he will feature for at least a few weeks.
Suggests that starting eleven today is probably going to be the starting eleven next week
Re: Parker post match v Lazio
Sounded mixed on Lesley really. If he’s played 60 mins then he can’t be far off (Hartman played 65 today for example).Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 7:21 pmSounds like Dubravka and Broja are a little further away than Ugochukwa.

Re: Parker post match v Lazio
Do we know which players started in the other match?
Re: Parker post match v Lazio
Without bringing up the whole topic again, I'd be interested to know whether Tresor played in the other game. I was expecting us to see more of him this pre season but it doesn't seem to be happening.
Possible that we are trying to get shut of him.

Would be interesting to see who else was involved in the “in-house” game today. Possibly involving all those who are a bit short of fitness/coming back from injuries?
Tresor
Ramsey
Flemming
Roberts
Perhaps?

I think there’s a quote in there somewhere from Parker where he lets it slip, something along the lines of we will have to assess them over the next couple of weeks.
Suggests they won’t be in the team in the next week or so

The injury situation is not good. Ffs the season hasn't started and we have at least 7 unavailable atm.

Re: Parker post match v Lazio
He might be being careful with those that have had long injuries so just plays them in the in house games. Also, fan expectations are probably higher than his for players who have been out a long time so he is protecting them.

Not long before the there's an international break. I suspect we'll see the new signings starting after that once they've got a good month's training with the team under their belt.

Not sure when the other game kicked off but Ramsey was sitting at the back of the Directors Box today next to Humphreys.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 7:36 pmWould be interesting to see who else was involved in the “in-house” game today. Re: Parker post match v Lazio
There is a reason why it is beneficial to get new players in as early as possible getting them up to full fitness and integrated into the squad before the opening game. You can bet that Xhaka and Adingra will be up to full speed and ready for Sunderland’s opening fixture.
Re: Parker post match v Lazio
It's fine against Spurs to go with a weakened side (due to players not being quite ready) but the Sunderland match is pretty much a must not lose game as it's those teams who we need to be getting our wins from to have any chance of survival.
Re: Parker post match v Lazio
Absolutely. You can see the difference with Walker and the Dutch lad, for example. Unfortunately, not always easy to do nowadays.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 10:54 pmThere is a reason why it is beneficial to get new players in as early as possible getting them up to full fitness and integrated into the squad before the opening game. Re: Parker post match v Lazio
Sounds absolutely crazy to say that about the second game of the season but you are 100% correct, if we lose at Spurs then at home to Sunderland then that would naturally damage the confidence in the dressing room.
Re: Parker post match v Lazio
On the flip side, wouldn’t it be better to go to Spurs and play those who need bringing up to speed with the squad, therefore increasing their match fitness & familiarity, ahead of Sunderland? I guess the best way to gain fitness is to actually play? I’m sure Parker will be tempted to take the risk on his £20m+ midfielder & 175 PL cap goalkeeper anyway.

Maresca said himself that all the Chelsea players on the way out were training alone. Good for him that he only has to concentrate on players he will use, but not helpful for Les and Brojas pre season. Xhaka will have been training with Leverkusen so won't have the same problem. It's an irrelevant comparison.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 10:54 pmThere is a reason why it is beneficial to get new players in as early as possible getting them up to full fitness and integrated into the squad before the opening game. Re: Parker post match v Lazio
As last season we look to be prioritising defence first, and with Walker and a 3/5 at the back we look solid. I expect Dubravka will start next week, injured shoulder rumours apart, but think we'll be happy to walk away with a 0-0.
Even if the new lads aren't ready to start, they could do a job from the bench if required.
I should think it will take a few matches for SP to find his best team, and a couple more for them to click, so we need to be realistic and show a bit of patience.

Great save for the penalty and we seemed to create chances to score at least a goal.

Re: Parker post match v Lazio
Irrelevant or not, it will be interesting to see how many of the new signings made by Sunderland feature for them at home to West Ham and are ready to hit the ground running compared to the lineup that we are able to put out at Tottenham. If we are not in a position to field our strongest eleven for several weeks vital points could be lost in what will be a closely fought battle to avoid returning to the Championship.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 10:27 amMaresca said himself that all the Chelsea players on the way out were training alone. Their 11 yesterday will likely be what starts v West Ham:kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 10:52 amIrrelevant or not, it will be interesting to see how many of the new signings made by Sunderland feature for them at home to West Ham and are ready to hit the ground running compared to the lineup that we are able to put out at Tottenham. Roefs, Hume, Ballard, Seelt, Reinildo, Xhaka (C), Sadiki, Diarra, Talbi, Adingra, Mayenda.
7 new signings. All of them have been in the building over 2 weeks prior to kick off and played several, if not all, friendlies together.
Re: Parker post match v Lazio
Only 2 from last season, Ballard, a championship centre half, and the unproven Mayenda.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 10:55 amTheir 11 yesterday will likely be what starts v West Ham:

Hume too.. Seelt was there but injured. Think they are signing a new centre half. Linked with Lloyd Kelly. Ballard is someone who has the potential to step up I think. Gets injured a fair bit though.

I think Sunderland and Burnley will almost be polar opposites this season. They look to be all out attack, that back five looks unbelievable poor for this level.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 10:55 amTheir 11 yesterday will likely be what starts v West Ham:

Re: Parker post match v Lazio
In an ideal world we would have liked our signings to have been in weeks ago. However nothing is ideal and have we forgotten already that the gaffer didn't get a settled team for some while last season.
Also Sunderland were ahead of us in the selling stakes as they had already sold the play off scorer to Brighton before the season ended so maybe they had a positive cash flow going into this window whilst we waited for Traffs to move on.
I have complete faith in Parker, he knows what he is doing UTC.

You don't seem to understand, if Sunderland do select all their new signings, it doesn't mean they are match ready. They might be making a huge mistake.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 10:52 amIrrelevant or not, it will be interesting to see how many of the new signings made by Sunderland feature for them at home to West Ham and are ready to hit the ground running compared to the lineup that we are able to put out at Tottenham. You are presuming things without any evidence re Sunderland, and i have faith that SP knows what he is doing. I doubted him last season when we looked awful at times, but he was proved right in the end. Have faith, I don't want to be playing catch up either, but Scott knows what he is doing.
Re: Parker post match v Lazio
We've got horrible start & our opening 4 away games are as bad as you could get. Add in a huge game at home first up and Liverpool in there.
All I wanna see is getting ourselves as solid as we possibly can and working out how to defend for the season ahead. We need to be impossible to break down and not give away anything, i.e. sloppy passes in transition, stupid free-kicks in dangerous positions, goals from set pieces, etc. From there, we can start looking at integrating our new attacking players and ways to be more creative as the season progresses. A bit like last season, I guess.

Re: Parker post match v Lazio
Seems a harsh description of the back 5 without seeing them in action. Their fans have rated the new keeper and left back in pre season. Le Bris is the opposite of all out attack in style too, very much a pragmatic, counter attacking coach. They do need another defender though, but it looks like they are getting at least 1.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 11:39 amI think Sunderland and Burnley will almost be polar opposites this season. Sunderland were the lowest scorers in the top 6 last season - can’t imagine they’ll be radical shift in emphasis from their manager.

I mean that back five you put up for premier league level is crap.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 12:33 pmSeems a harsh description of the back 5 without seeing them in action. Ballard is just steady and tbh I didn’t even think he was overly impressive at championship level.
I like Hume think he’s a good player but I would be nervous if he was our right back.
The other CB is a youth player that’s barely even played any professional football.
renildo looks solid enough.
Keeper can’t comment.
But compare that back five to the likes of Wolves, Brentford, Leeds, Burnley and it’s not even close in quality
