More seriously, I’m hoping FIFA block this nonsense.

I susoect that if FIFA dont , our club will be one of those that is all over this...

Don’t think it can happen here but the concern is if it happens in one country it makes it easier for others.

Didn’t Wrexham and Birmingham have a request to have their league game played in America rejected last season? I seem to remember the FA refused as it would set an unhealthy precedent.

Once we get to 14 American owners in the Premier league, anything could happen...

It'll be interesting what the final remit of the regulator ends up being. The House of Lords has proposed about 370 ammendments.... many of them led by Karen Brady.... who isn't exactly a fan.
Hopefully the regulator will have the necessary power to stop this nonsense...

If any evidence was needed of American owners not understanding British football, or perhaps more worryingly, not giving a hoot, this is it.

FIFA backed out of a defense of it's old statures 16 months ago - when it was apparent that they and the MLS would would lose their series of court battles

it was all followed on the MMT for several years

Situations at those two clubs came too early for the regulator to have any involvement

I've no doubt it'll happen one day, which is sad. The only way to chase growth is to push global reach. All they care about is making money, the days of owners genuinely caring about the community, supporters and historic culture of a given club is over. It was over as soon as it became the norm to pay players as much per day as some folk earn in years.

If this does happen (and I really hope this doesn’t) would those fans that have bought a season ticket for 19 games get a refund/discount?

It'd be an away game and I suspect that tickets might get to open sale.

If la liga do it all other leagues will follow and claim they have to do so to compete. The premier league will be no different. The big clubs will push for it. Not only to have games in America but the middle east and asia.
It will be interesting to see what Espanyol do.

This would be an even bigger joke because of the Winter Olympics opening ceremony. Why not just invert the fixtures and play them away? They knew about this when the fixtures were compiled.

It’s down to the players to take a stand but when they do the clubs would chuck more money at them and they’d fold.

I doubt whether the players alone would hold sway.
They're employees after all and play who and where they're told.
Hopefully the new Football regulator will hold a position of some clout. Someone Who will be able to maintain the interests of the Community- the supporters - and long term interests of the clubs, so the football clubs loyal fan base is respected.

It was on talk sport yesterday I think that the PL have indicated there are no plans or discussions to do this.

The regulator will also have the power to make this nonsense happen. It's a mistake to assume that the regulator will agree with "us" and oppose "them". He or she might go the other way.

This is essentially a legal argument, most pertinently it neglects to mention that the MLS had opposed league matches from other countries being played on US soil - that is why Relevent went to court (with several cases) in the US so they could promote such games. It also neglects to mention that FIFA appeared in court to support the MLS stance. That knowledge makes the argument somewhat weasely and revisionist.
