City looking at signing Gianluigi Donnarumma

Just seen Gianluigi Donnarumma is now being linked with Man City by a few of the big City social media accounts.
Penny for Trafford’s thoughts if they sign the Italian. You’d imagine it would end any hope of him being their no1 in the next year or two.

Something seems to have advanced in the last 24 hours, he’s now odds on to join city.
Only 26 as well, could easily have another 10 years at the top.

Trafford's gone for the packet
If they do sign Donnarumma, which is looking likely - there's no way he's not going to be NO 1 - He's just as good as Ederson
He must be miffed if it does happen, as he could be a prem 1st choice in 17 or so of the other sides

Strange goings on if it happens, but I wonder if City’s ‘interest’ is just agent talk.

There was no way Trafford was going to be first choice keeper at City this season.

Donnarumma signing would probably prompt ederson out the door so no change really, Traff will be fully aware and continue his development as number two for a year or two.

Donnarumma is only 26, don't see it being a year or two he'd wait.

Donnarumma is only 26 compared to Ederson who is 31. Donnarumma could be the number 1 there for the next 5-8 years.

I’m going to guess at a bit of shithousing form city to jump the price up for United to sign him

I suppose they’ll be desperate to win every trophy and attempt to re-establish their dominance, so Trafford will still feature regularly I would imagine.

City’s plan is to bring Traff on over a couple of years under an experienced keeper. Newcastle were going to do the same with Traff and Pope. Donnarumma is there to hold the fort until Traff is ready.
When that time comes who knows.

Really odd. Guardiola insists on keepers who can pass a ball. Donnarumma's one major weakness is...his passing.

One thing for sure, Traffs will back himself to become number 1 eventually. He won't mind Donnarumma being signed.

I’ve read reports suggesting Guardiola will be changing City’s formula quite a bit next season; much more direct, to counter the passing style that has become the norm and he feels they need something new as other clubs learn to counter his tactics.

Trafford is overrated IMHO. We would have been right at the top with Hdlaky in goal last year. The EFL is poor.
He was still flapping at crosses last year…although did improve from the year before.
If City want a title then Trafford is not the answer.
We did good business

I’m not sure we’d have been allowed to loan Trafford (and we have our number 1 now anyway).
If City were really only signing him for the future, and to stop another one of the big guns signing him, they could have locked in the deal but delayed it until next summer, giving Trafford a full year of Prem experience.
Guess he should still get a decent handful of games there this season, as Ortega did last season.

Absolute drivel.
He wasn't flapping at crosses last season at all.

Whilst I agree that he was flapping at crosses I do think he was a tad over rated. He was a good goalkeeper behind an exceptional defensive unit.

So basically the hoof upfield will now be considered a tactical masterstroke since it's being embraced by Pep Guardiola.

I don't think he'll ever be City's number 1 personally. Think he'll end up mid-Prem at best. Much depends on next couple of years. He needs to be playing regularly..

Should he not get his fair share of praise for a record number of clean sheets then?
Were those two penalty saves in one game a complete fluke?
Obviously City don't think he's overrated, or they'd have just let him go to Newcastle... I wonder if they thought he was overrated too?

He had the best numbers for stopping xG returns last season. We should have conceded 12.8 more goals, Trafford prevented that. In reality that’s around 25 chances on goal (some better than others) that he kept out. That’s not around what the defence did in front of his, Esteve himself prevented 3.8 goals from blocks. Both season leading in the division by a long way.

He was about as flawless as a goalkeeper is ever going to be last season.

Apart from totally disagreeing with you on Trafford, who I thought was superb virtually all season, I don't share your enthusiasm for Hladký who gave a goal away at Wolves in the League Cup, did again at Reading in the FA Cup and didn't inspire in the other games either.
I would have been totally confident we had a more than good enough goalkeeper had Trafford been playing for us in the Premier League this season but Hladký in goal would worry me to death.

Made a bad mistake against Cardiff too, saved by an offside flag. I'm with you on Hladky - I think we're in trouble if he plays a decent amount of games

It's been pretty common for Ederson to play long balls out for a while now. He's probably the best in business at it.

Long balls or sweeping passes?
They don't tend to mention long balls as such when city do it

I mean there’s a slightly nuanced difference between an accurate, intentional pin point long pass straight to Haaland’s feet, to beat a presss, or a perfectly weighted ball over the top, using vision to find a runner from deep, to Nick Pope just whacking it anywhere and hoping someone gets a head on it.
