FCBurnley, I know your daughter is a neighbour of the Irvine’s. If you send her name to me, I will hopefully get the chance to make myself known to her, after the funeral.

Sadly we are away so won’t be able to pay our respects at Turf Moor tomorrow. I’m sure there will be a big turnout for a true Claret legend.

Spent two minutes in silent memory of the great man.
Turned the tv on and “I didn’t know you cared” opened with a brass band playing Abide With Me. Somebody knew.

Couldn't get there today but Willie, his family & friends are in my thoughts 🥰.
On holiday in Ireland a few months I took a detour to drive through Carrickfergus - his birthplace.
By chance my sat nav took me off course on a detour right past the local football ground!
RIP our greatest ever goalscorer!

I was going to go to the funeral but I knew it would be very busy and thought there were many people who should be there ahead of me. I knew Willie because he played for us and therefore the Turf was the place to be to say my farewell.

Good turn out and the club finally lowered the flag to half mast.

Willie was on his way to his home village where he is to be buried next to Arthur Bellamy.

RIP Willie.

Willie was one of the first Burnley players through the doors of Clarets Collected with his son when it opened at the Library almost two years ago.

Fantastic turnout at the Church.
All three lads did great with getting their words out under obvious emotions.
Everything was said about him, more about a real family man and a true Claret Legend.
RIP Bill.

When I worked at Aldi Willie and his wife would come in quite often and he was just a normal, down to earth gentleman. They were both always so lovely. None of my colleagues had any idea who he was until I told them, which probably says a lot about who he was as a person. He was one of us. RIP Willie.

My daughter said the service was perfect and a piper played which was very emotional. Guinness to toast him after the service. I bet he’s already scored his first heavenly hat trick

I was at the funeral and the number of mourners attending, reflected the respect Bill/Willie had, of both the people of Worsthorne (his home village) and the Burnley Supporters in attendance. The Irvine family speaking fondly during the service, about their Dad and Grandad, was a moment Bill would’ve been very proud of.
Although I saw Brian Flynn there, I later learned from my Blackpool mate and his wife, who’d travelled over, they’d spoken with Billy Hamilton. I later met Henning, a friend from years ago who had travelled over, with 4 others from Norway, for the funeral.
Bill/Willie, the Burnley supporters today showed their respect and condolences, for 1 of our favourite EVER strikers.

Two superb, but different, centre forwards from the 1960s. They were very good friends who also engaged in lots of banter when they were both doing the ground tours.

Darren I rang Spurs reception a number of times this morning, without a reply. So I E mailed them, requesting they put a ground announcement out, in memory of your Dad. I wrote of the Spurs cup tie and the hat trick he scored, recalling games between the 2 Clubs, were the most anticipated matches of the season for any football supporter. Mention was made, that you and the family will be at the match. Fingers crossed, it gets mentioned and you hear it on the tannoy.

normal,down to earth gentleman.
And those words sum up my knowledge of Willie when he used to work on match days in the Foundation bar and I chatted to him on so many occasions. Sadly I didnt see him play very often as i was away at Uni, but the Willie I grew to know is as Clowbridge stated a normal down to earth GENTLEman. He may not have been that on the pitch but in real life one of the truly decent, no strings attached, bloke and a GENTLEMAN.

CTID, I spoke to Shaun, who’ve I’ve known for a long number of years, after the service. MY THOUGHTS were that he was there as a passionate Burnley supporter, to pay respect to your Dad, and not as a representative of the Football Club.
