Todmorden
Re: Todmorden
Probably best not to advertise it on here even if they are. Feels like a lot less pubs are risking it with the dodgy boxes now, not worth the risk of getting busted.
Re: Todmorden
Yeh your probably right.

Todmorden’s a great place. Some great bars there, a beautiful park, transport links to Manchester/Leeds.

Re: Todmorden
Think i perefer Tod to Hebden now. A bit more authentic and far fewer mancunian daytrippers. The bar inside the market hall is a little gem. Proper throwback.
Re: Todmorden
Feels like Tod is starting to pick up some of the hipster overspill from Hebden the last few years.

Re: Todmorden
Just reading this thread whilst enjoying a great pint in The Beer Necessities having enjoyed walking along the canal from Hebden. I regularly do this walk as not only does it pass through some lovely scenery I think both towns are interesting to spend time in.
Agree that Tod is very “up and coming” nowadays . The market , with its brilliant food shops, coffee bar and pub, is outstanding and the bar where I’m sitting right now (opened and owned by a Claret as I remember from a thread on here) is a great place to enjoy a quality pint.

The White Hart changed from being a Wetherspoons well over a year ago. A nice selection of pubs and eateries now in Tod. And, as others have said, without the manc hoards who are doing their best to ruin Hebden.
Re: Todmorden
Todmorden is lovely, it's a town that padiham wishes it could be

Ruin it or contribute to it's success?RHansburyEsq wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 4:17 pmThe White Hart changed from being a Wetherspoons well over a year ago. A nice selection of pubs and eateries now in Tod. And, as others have said, without the manc hoards who are doing their best to ruin Hebden.

Hebden Bridge is the epitome of gentrification.
And I'm a Yorkie.
Nowt wrong with Tod.

I would imagine that alot of Hebden Bridge's 'residents' aren't actually from the town?RHansburyEsq wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 4:31 pmRuin. The ‘success’ benefits a very small number of bar owners who are not residents of the town.

Thanks mate, TBN is mine and my mate Damien’s place. Glad you enjoyed a pint there!Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 3:56 pmJust reading this thread whilst enjoying a great pint in The Beer Necessities having enjoyed walking along the canal from Hebden. Todmorden really is a super place, we’re blessed with some cracking places to eat, drink, watch/listen to live music, soak up some sun, discover local history and much more beside.
Just on the Padiham wishes it could be Todmorden, I genuinely think Padiham could emulate some of the success that Tod has had. A couple more nice places to eat and drink (probably on the hill up towards the Taproom) and it would be even better than it is now. I’ve a real soft spot for Padiham.

Re: Todmorden
Tod is a decent place for a day drinking session, as is Hebden for that matter. Not really arsed that it’s gentrified, beats Burnley which is on its arse.
Padiham is definitely on the up, as mentioned above, a couple of decent restaurants, tapas etc and it could be a great day drinking place!

Man made doesn’t count

Re: Todmorden
Tod is absolutely great at the moment. The market (indoor and out) is superb, the pubs are light years ahead of anything in Burnley, it has a venue which regularly gets good names, and there's a real community spirit. It's the best little town for miles around.
I was always embarrassed as a kid going to school in Burnley but coming from Tod, but now I'm proud to say that's where I grew up.

Certainly would be a change from empty shop after empty shop. Todmorden is buzzing, and altho padiham looks a lot better now it's still nowhere near as good.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 9:51 pmI've just never heard anyone in Padiham ever say they wish their town was like any other town, never mind Tod.

Re: Todmorden
Todmorden is a third bigger than Padiham. 15k compared to 10k people living there. So they should have more going on.
I'm pleased their town is doing well.

Re: Todmorden
I've had to put my soya milk down, stop combing my moustache and switch off 6Music so I can reply to some of the Hebden hipster slander. It's nice here. Especially if you want a holistic spiritual pet therapist. There's four of those advertised on the local Co-Op community notice board. Although yes, some of the residents aren't born and bred Hebden. Some of us are from as far afield as Nelson.

Re: Todmorden
I'd rather have gentrification than the shitification that's happened in many of our towns in this country.
Re: Todmorden
Alright, but what have the Romans ever done for us?

Re: Todmorden
I don’t think that it is. I think it could have been worded better perhaps but I get what he meant. I left Padiham in 1972 and have seen its decline over the years. But recently it seems to be on the up. Both my wife and I have thought that it has shades of Hebden Bridge and Todmorden about it. The town centre has been refreshed and there is still significant original architecture and buildings particularly on the hill. And as has been mentioned they have a beach. It is a shame that more can’t be made of the river Calder going through the town centre.
With regard to blow ins changing towns for better or worse it is a tricky one. I now live in Fleet in Hampshire have done for 23 years and given its links to London and Heathrow/Gatwick and the south coast it is sort of commuter central. There are pluses and minuses to that. Great schools, lots of pubs, shops and cafes but hellishly high house prices. But it is seen as a safe place for young families and what we are getting is families moving out from SW London to live here, which, mistakenly, they think of as living in the countryside. They haven’t seen the proper East Lancs/West Yorks countryside.
