Willie’s pic is on the front cover of tomorrow’s programme and there will be a minute’s applause before the game.

Wonderful.

Off thread. If CTID sees this a personal question so no response is not a bother.
I remember at his 64-66 peak Willie spending Friday nights in a hotel due to a new born disrupting his sleep. Was it you?

February 1968 he had to sleep across the road from our house on Eastern Ave on a Friday night. The Daily Mirror ran a piece on it.

Guilty as charged mi Lord......

So he should be , a great player/servant of our club . Plus it will keep the half wit happy who insisted on talking through the Jota minute silence last week , saying we should only respect past Burnley players !

Someone in front of me talked all the way through the Jota silence last week. It's beyond me that someone can't show respect.

I remember when I used to work behind the bar at the foundation club in the JM stand, probably about 18 years ago.

Willie used to go in there on match days, although I’m not sure of his role, assume club ambassador or host.

First time I met him I didn’t know who he was, although I’d heard my dad tell me about him I had no idea what he looked like. He asked for a pint and I charged him. He gave me a look that was not best pleased. My co-worker then explained who he was and explained we don’t charge him.

I returned his cash and apologised which he laughed about.
I had quite a few good chats with him about football. I remember asking him if he thought he would cope with modern football as I thought the modern footballer was much fitter and more skilful than in his day. I asked him if he thought he would get in today’s team (we were in the championship at the time). How naive was I? He basically explained that if he trained with the modern day fitness instructors nutritionists etc he would be earning 100k a week

His pre-match ground tours were legendary, particularly given that they would meet up with the Bob Lord group half way round who were hosted by his mate Andy Lochhead.

Fantastic picture of Wille , when playing and what a player he was.
Getting his autograph outside the ground on match days
was a joy .
Although I am over 80 and can’t get to the games I would love a programme as a wonderful souvenir

I was privileged to have a Willie tour and see the banter with Big Andy Lochead, first hand.

A good memory to have.

They both used to be in the Guest Bar mid 90s along with CTID. Never a dull moment. I remember the discussion after Barnes got 5 v Stockport, revolved around Andy pointing out he scored 5 on 2 occasions. And the usual 'who's round is it' discussion. I usually managed to slip them a couple on the house courtesy of a free bar in the Sponsors Lounge.
