Should Burnley build a new stadium and sell the naming rights?

Some ideas:

'Trump Towers'
'Wendys Park'
'Apple Park'
'Taco Bell Towers'
'Walmart Woods'

They've already drawn up plans and reviewed suitable land down by crow wood, and also up by Hapton. 5 year plan

I don't think there is any chance that could happen. We would have to be able to guarantee we remain in the Premier League for all of those five years for a new ground not to be a massive burden.

I'm personally willing to allow the stadium to be renamed Turf Moor X (as long as the x is in a very small font) for a cool billion or two lol.
Prefer not to move, however redevelopment of the Cricket Field and Bob Lord would be good if X are willing Splash out for that too.

I don’t think the Turf will ever be renamed.

A new stadium absolutely will have its naming rights sold.

I once had a new stadium built on football manager years ago. The board named it ‘Dobson Arena’ with a 65000 capacity. Got a nice ring to it.

We've got a unique ground name.
Why would we want to change it?

Keep the name.
Build a new stadium…. Somewhere near to the M65 would be even better.

I certainly wouldn't want a soulless new stadium at a different site for a whole range of reasons. It would be a terrible idea.

Why do people always use the word "soulless" when talking about certain grounds?
What does that even mean?
Only saw brief pictures today, but I bet there aren't many Everton fans pining for their old ground today.
I have been going on the Turf since 1970 but would not miss it one bit if we moved to a new and better ground.

Well I think estate agents (realtors as we are American now) would describe the existing arena as ‘tired’ at best, and you can’t knock it down and build a replacement in the space of a season break.

Like it or not, at some point, IMHO it’s going to move.

ALK are right to have a five year plan.

Could this be why we haven’t seen much in the way of plans for a new cricketfield stand?

It means 'lacking character and individuality'

I don't enjoy going to Etihad Stadium, for example.

I'd prefer the ongoing development of Turf Moor as and when it's affordable.

If you'd prefer a new stadium on the edge of town requiring substantial funding the club doesn't have, fair enough.

I find it strange that Burnley supporters would ever pine to leave our ancestral home. It’s like wanting to leave Buck House to build a Trump Tower.

We need to buy the cricket club next door and do a re build. I wonder if Alan’s already looked into that.

Etihad is a fantastic venue, I have had some great corporate events there. and I think I heard that the new Everton stadium has the capability to host 6000 corporate visitors.

Football is a business, and you have to treat it as such, of course you spin it to try and embrace the locals but travelling fans are just as important.

It’s just bricks and mortar, I don’t think it has a preservation order on it.

If you knocked down each side gradually to replace it with more appropriate stands over a period of four years, would that still qualify as an ancestral home?

It’s similar to Triggers broom.

As a historian I could not disagree more. Even the name reflects Burnley’s pride and place in the world; though few know it. Turf Moor was not a name dreamed up by the cricket club… it was the Race Track built by General Scarlet, hero of the Heavy Brigade at Balaclava (who saved the day after the Charge of the Light Brigade). Although a Londoner he married the Bank Hall heiress and settled in the town. His grandson Captain Scarlet won the Victoria Cross in WWI and inspired a rather famous science fiction character… (for starters).

Thanks, I really did not know that.

And I liked Captain Scarlet (I shouldn’t admit this, but I am a member of Spectrum)

There is a lot to be said for having your team performing in the town centre.

It’s just a pain for me to get to.

We get 19000 fans on home games. How do we fill a new stadium of 25000 plus. I'm sure I read that we have only ever had a waiting list for season tickets of around 100. Stay where we are and slowly develop the stadium.

If you couldn't tell from my suggested names, my post was very much tongue in cheek.

I don't see us moving or rebuilding anytime soon. The costs of a new stadium are massive and we just don't have the revenue streams to justify it.
