mel - part of the draw is before the game and part afterwards.

You need a science degree to understand how it works but they draw the teams in Europe out before the game and also whether they will play home or away.

Then after the game the rest of us are drawn to join the nine teams in Europe.

Once that done the remaining teams are drawn out as per normal.

If any of those teams were drawn to play each other it could well clash with their European fixtures meaning the League Cup tie couldn't be played on the intended date.

This problem was caused by UEFA delaying the announcement of their fixture dates.

The 3rd round of the League Cup will be played over 2 weeks to accommodate these 9 clubs.

I suspect every one of them will play a full reserve team. So they're trying to solve a problem that scarcely exists.

If Palace drew Forest in the EFL and Palace were due to play in Europe the first week of the games and Forest the second week, when would they play?
