Buying from t'Rovers
Sky news saying this morning that Ipswich are buying a Brazillian off Norwich, the first direct transfer between the clubs for 24 years.
It got me thinking of our dealings with Bastards. I know we have had many ex Bastards in the club, some very successful, but none that I can recall that came direct, I have been known to be wrong though. So the question is when did we last buy a player direct from each other, bought and sold.

Was the GK Paul Robinson one, or was he on a free?

Burnley to Blackburn - Adam Blacklaw 18k 1967
Blackburn to Burnley - Peter O'Dowd 1930
Those are the last two permanent transfers between the clubs I can find.

Re: Buying from t'Rovers
Peter Devine definitely crossed the water, but he hardly played for Bastards, so don't know if a fee was involved?

Tyrhys Dolan was recently bought by our owners

David May came at the same time as Andy Todd I recall. Two great loan signings.

He married a girl who lived across the road from us.

Won’t be long before we are sending them our second string players from the U23 team
Re: Buying from t'Rovers
Pretty sure David May was a freebie, not a loan.

Re: Buying from t'Rovers
In all my years of watching Burnley (from 1960) the only first team players who have moved directly from one to the other are
Burnley to Blackburn
Walter Joyce
Adam Blacklaw
Blackburn to Burnley
Peter Devine
Andy Todd (loan)
Jay McEveley (loan)

Re: Buying from t'Rovers
I would bloody hope not.
I can't say for certain how we signed him, whether it was a free from them or whether they had released him and we picked him up.
I do remember him scoring a screamer at Colchester to earn us a 2-2 draw in the final game of the 1985/86 season. It proved to be the last time he kicked a ball in league football; he suffered a serious injury in a road accident on holiday that summer.

That shot was a pile driver. At the old Layer Rd end if I remember correctly. A Tuesday night game in the days well before the final game blanket finishes we have today!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 2:58 pmI would bloody hope not.

This from a friend who supports Norwich:Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 7:45 amSky news saying this morning that Ipswich are buying a Brazillian off Norwich, the first direct transfer between the clubs for 24 years.

"As if the start of this season isn't depressing enough, NCFC have now sold their best midfielder (Marcelino Nunez) to f--king Ipswich Town ..... they may have got a hugely inflated fee for him (£10m) but selling him to Ipswich is not good from a PR perspective ..... let's hope that this deal doesn't come back to bite NCFC on the arse."

Last minute equaliser. He broke his leg in a road accident in Corfu.Culmclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 5:53 pmThat shot was a pile driver. At the old Layer Rd end if I remember correctly. A Tuesday night game in the days well before the final game blanket finishes we have today!
Re: Buying from t'Rovers
When we signed Devine he was actually a part time player with Rovers and he worked as an engineer at Blackburn Town Hall whilst on a dual registration with Chorley. He agreed to join us in April 1984 but had to give a month's notice at his job. I think he actually made his debut for us against Rovers in the Norman Bell Testimonial at Ewood.

I'm sure Stan went in for Matt Jansen at one point too, when he'd come back from that horrific scooter accident abroad.clarets1978 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 8:15 amAnd Jay McEviley. David Jones last club was them too before he signed for us

It was at that end and it was a pile driver, on the Tuesday after the season officially finished.Culmclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 5:53 pmThat shot was a pile driver. Devine was a shockingly bad player
