Average position maps from Spurs and Sunderland

I know there has been plenty of debate on various threads about how we lined up against both Spurs and Sunderland - how we lined up tactically and if we used different formations etc.

I've found the average position maps for both matches and put them side-by-side for comparison (I've had to flip one of the maps so are both facing the same direction)

The formation on the left is from the Spurs game and on the right is our aver positions against Sunderland

As I thought, sonne in a back 5 was higher up than JBL in an alleged back 4. In fact it was similar for both, just that we did more defending against spurs.

It does seem to be a 3atb system used in both games so far with us playing wider against Sunderland.

Our formation actually doesn't seem to dissimilar to what Amorim is trying to play at ManUre

I watched the Sunderland game so knew JBL spent his time at the back, making it a back 5. We did change when on the attack as you'd expect.

Its distinctly different. As much as anything its actually situationally flexible, going into a 442 at times, 4
541 at other and even 325 in other phases.

Thank you for taking the time to find and post that. I was wondering how we were lining up.

IMHO the "three at the back/five at the back" (depending on one's view of it) can and, ideally should, be fluid. I might be wrong but I would also hope to see Kyle Walker go out wide with the RWB tucking in to enable him to overlap when we're going for a game.
