Couldn’t wait to give them everything. The pen he gave in the first half is a guess and check the badge job. The linesman gave an offside that was never offside but affects our momentum. Clearly paid to give anything close to the big teams so it’s harder to overturn. It’s not even in doubt anymore after the Fulham games last weekend and this.

Via television it was said the shirt was still being held into our penalty box. Therefore a penalty. Horrible for us at that stage of the game but not the ref's fault.

But neither the ref nor refs assistant actually saw that!

The same stream that earlier thought it was a "definite" first penalty until it wasn't

He couldn’t wait to give Manu free kicks or any kind of advantage near our box.

He did his job well

That job was to ensure the "big" clubs stay in the PL so the FA keep getting their TV money

Typical ref at old Trafford. Big shout out to the linesmen right at the death who waved for a corner then quickly changed his mind.

Did he get the big decisions right.

IMO he didn’t, he gave a penalty when it wasn’t. VAR bailed him out.

The free kick for Utd’s first goal, was a solid tackle by Walker. Should have been a goal kick.

The penalty against Anthony was a shirt tug outside the box, the fact that he falls/dives in the box doesn’t warrant a penalty. He made the correct decision and then somebody gets in his ear and he weakly changes his mind.

He let Fernandes run the game, he gave free kicks every time a Utd player went down.

He stopped the game when Cunha was down and yet when Big Les down, let play go on.

It’s a long time since I came off a game so bloody angry. We were robbed of a well deserved point.

A homer who showed where his allegiance was in the first 15 minutes when he blew for a foul against Burnley if a Burnley player dared to go near a United 'player/'actor'. He was desperate for a home win and got his wish at the death.
He will be very pleased with his performance as will the Premier League.

I want these up and coming refs to be good but the spotlight falls on them and generally for the wrong reason. He had 3 big decisions to make today and he got all 3 wrong. The ‘penalty’ that he gave 1st half wrongly probably contributed towards his decision making after. The free kick that led to Man U’s 1st goal was a great challenge and should have been a goal kick and the penalty he did give he was swayed by VAR because that was never a sustained pull on the shirt in which Diallo threw himself forward into the box. The quality of officials is really very poor. My 20 year old son is on the referee ladder ( currently at North West Counties League level ) and obviously watching referees more closely he is head and shoulders above the current crop of professionals. Watching Sam Barrott and Rob Jones today only makes it more possible that he will get to the top of the game.

I was at the game, not seen it back, but he was poor, and very weak
Every 50/50 went to United, which cannot be right.

If the referee was a genuine Premier League Referee he would have seen the shirt pull outside the area and blown for a free-kick. Instead he gave nothing and allowed Stuart Attwell to give the penalty

A - 5. Got major calls wrong incl Walker “foul”, his lino got the Foster offside wrong in my view too
B - 10. Not too bad but felt itching to give the United calls
C - 20. Felt he was well positioned on the whole
D - 10. Allowed Bruno to run the game, was surrounded too often.

Like him as a ref but it felt Old Trafford is too big for him currently.

At the game my feeling was he was a “homer”. He gave United everything they asked for (aside from the late penalty).

Having watched the highlights I think he was even worse. According to VAR he got at least two major decisions wrong (although I’m not convinced about that second one) and, in addition to favouring United throughout, i also think he:

*Misses the fact that Walker wins the ball for the free kick for their opening goal
*Is extremely lenient towards Fernandes - his eventual booking comes after several opportunities to book him
*Misses a blatant corner in the dying seconds and awards a goal kick

And after VAR correctly ruled out there first penalty it felt like the assistants were determined to give united everything.

The free kick they scored off was actually laughable.

Its about time the on field refs started to disagree with VAR. It's a joke.

What is foul in one game isn’t a foul in another - there are too many shades of grey in the rules. We need to move to the European version of VAR where it is only involved for the major decisions.

I think I remember in the early days of var the ref ( can’t remember who) was sent to the screen, he looked at the incident and after studying it stuck with his original decision, which again from memory I think didn’t actually have any detrimental effect on either side. I haven’t seen one since and I’m convinced currently the refs feel under a duty to go with what var are telling him/her in order to justify its existence.

The referee obviously didn’t get all the big decisions correct because he overturned two of his biggest decisions after being told to go to the monitor, and he awarded a free kick to Utd for a perfectly good tackle by Walker which directly resulted in their first goal.

Dave out of interest can I ask what you gain personally by coming on here every time a referee has a crap game to tell us he actually had a good game?

Can't disagree with most of that, but do you not think he bottled the late penalty call, as I do?

In my opinion, after getting the first one wrong, he didn't want to do that again so he gave nothing in order to let VAR do his job.

I am not particularly pro refs
The Var man at the Chelsea Fulham game gave everything for Chelsea
The disallowed Fulham goal should have stood and then the penalty to Chelsea should have been disallowed as a Chelsea forward handled the ball just as it then hit the Fulham defenders hand
2 dreadful decisions

In the Burnley game without VAR the challenge by Mount on Walker would have resulted in a penalty for United as the referr could not see what was happening behind the 2 players whereas VAR could see that Mount was fouling
Therefore the penalty wasn’t given
Therefore if the Referee helped by VAR arrive at the right decision then that should be ok


VAR was partly introduced because referees were being lambasted by TV cameras showing all angles and therefore referee’s errors
When I watched Burnley on the late fifties and all sixties and seventies there was no live TV showing errors and therefore referees could make mistakes and not be criticised

Figure out what the R part means and why it MIGHT be applicable here...

The point I am making is that VAR had to correct 2 of the refs decisions, therefore the ref should be marked down based on his decision making.
