Is SP’s negativity going to cost us this season was it his decision to let United have the game in the first half admittedly not all players were up to it
too many went missing but with virtually the last kick of the march he wouldn’t let Dubravka go up for the corner in the very last minute it probably wouldn’t have made any difference but if you don’t try you will never know* the ref total rubbish

Vinny tried the other approach and it didn’t end well.

Scott’s tactics and line-ups can be frustrating at times, but I can see what he’s trying to do.

Struggling to see how scoring 4 goals in 3 PL games is negative. Off you pop.

Don't agree verbatim with the OP, that said after the week Utd had we should have gone on the front foot against them first half and build the pressure. But we offered nothing and sat deep and let them attack us.

It was quite the opposite to this. We tried pressing high, got it wrong continuously, and got done in transition time and time again. He started with a back 4 too, which folk seem to think is more positive? The fix at half time was sitting off more in a 5-4-1, and getting United to ask more questions of a structured defence, which they struggled to.

I think by the end of the season we'll find that united have given some teams some proper wallopings.
People are making the mistake of thinking this is last years United.

They are a totally different outfit and were absolutely lightning at turning defence into attack, they had Cunha, mbuemo, Mount and Diallo coming at us on the break, so I think we were a bit caught between wanting to get pressure on them and wanting to protect against that.

They are going to be a really difficult team to play against this season, they've got more than enough to break down low blocks or they can sit back and play counter attacking football. They are a good side now.

Not a big fan of a GK going up for corners or direct free kicks. Been watching football for over 60 years and the times a GK has scored I can count on one hand. What I have seen on numerous occasions is the opposition gaining possession from a poor corner and finding it easy to score as the other team has packed the penalty area. I think it could be tight at the bottom of the PL in May and conceivably the smallest GD could send someone down

I thought we showed them a bit too much respect in the first half but they started so quickly it made it hard for us - had we gone for it we could quite easily have gone in 5-0 down or at 1-1. Be reet.

Little old newly promoted Burnley played away at Old Trafford and gave Man U a game which we could/should have come away with at least a point after scoring 2 very good goals on the road. If anyone should be worrying about this season, it's Man U not us.

Especially when you look at the Player ratings on here with 3's, 4's and 5's basically saying we are somewhere between abysmal and below average, Man U should be sh1tting themselves of the season ahead of them.

I wouldn't base anything on the player ratings on here

Nobody was anywhere near a 3 today

I think the OP is a little harsh here and might be missing much of what really is transpiring.

We are all entitled to have our own opinions. Opinions can be wrong, too.

Given that the whole United team are arguably better than all of ours, and bearing in their embarrassment at Grimsby, I can't understand why people are surprised how they pinned us back in the first half?

It’s not his negativity, he has just struggled to organise his defence.
We have been carved open like a Xmas turkey.

There was no point in Dubravka going up for the final free-kick, however he could have taken it.

It was the wrong tactic to take Les off and sit back trying for a draw .We needed to shake up United and not give the homeblower ref any opportunity to steal the points. Which he did with a very dubious penalty

As last season we have to learn to crawl before we can walk, I think SP is doing a great job. Yesterday's start had more to do with United treating it like a cup final.
We settled down really well second half.
I still think we won't see our 'best' side for a few weeks yet.

The only criticism I'd make of yesterday was the really poor set up on free kicks. Whoever coaches us is as bad as the last guy.

We are still getting used to playing together as a team and taking Manure right down to the wire like we did augers well for the rest of the season.

It’s more of a case Lesley isn’t fully fit and had run out of steam. We had already started to sit in before he brought Laurent on. It was a like for like change. The main one for me is Anthony was massively blowing and bringing Pires on would of been the best call for me

To be fair the OP isn’t saying sack him or anything daft, just that he needs to refrain from over negative tactics.

Last season after all those 0-0s I was saying the same.

So far we have done OK but have 2 main flaws - sitting back too much when level (another flaw from early last season) which after the first half reasserted itself after 75 mins yesterday, and not trusting flair (I cannot fathom why Edwards is benched for 90 - the unspoken jinx laws of football are that he would have scored late yesterday and cost his old manager his job).

He is pragmatic to a fault, like Sean was, and when he does well I suspect it is when he takes a risk, like the back four against Sunderland. I just hope it is enough.
