Scunthorpe United

Not normally a Club I give two hoots about, but they've had two abandoned games in a row now. The first against Eastleigh and today against Wealdstone. When was the last time this happened?

Unsurprisingly the Scunthorpe manager isn't happy with the Wealdstone players, who refused to play on after one of their teammates suffered a "serious" injury. It was a disclocated shoulder, which I'm sure will hurt a bit, but does it really warrant players trying to get the match abandoned?

Scunny were winning at the time, so if the 'result' isn't allowed to stand it sets a dangerous precedent for the future. If you don't like the fact you're losing, going into the final stages of a game, then just go off injured and get your team mates to show solidarity.

Perhaps we should have tried it at Old Trafford?! ;)

Give Scunthorpe the win, fine Wealdstone a relative fortune and tell their famous little gobshite fan he’s a poisoned dwarf while they’re at it.

I think there'll be serious repercussions for Wealdstone. I’m guessing that the result will stand and Wealdstone will be fined
with a points deduction.

A dislocated shoulder is very painful and a nasty injury. But we can’t be abandoning games for that. Wealdstone need hammering for this, or it’s a very dangerous precedent.

Maybe we can have a minutes applause in the minute he suffered the serious injury.

I absolutely agree with everything above and it's worth pointing out that the injury left Wealdstone with 10 men as they'd used all their subs. I doubt they'd have refused to play on if they could have just subbed him.

There could only have been a few minutes to play with ten men, if they were already in time added on.

Wasn't Scunthorpe away Eddie Howe's first job in charge of us?

In the 80s we were occasionally that bad that an abandonment would have relieved the fans pain

I bet they're buzzing about having to travel to Eastleigh in a midweek again

Just a question on the abandonment, bit extreme but if the player had been taken away in the on site ambulance would they not have to abandon it if they couldnt get another and is that possibly what happened here with Scunthorpe possibly trying to convince Wealdstone just to play out the final minutes?

I have to disagree.

But only with the word "occasionally".

It still feels remarkable that I probably attended more games in the 1980s than any other decade.

Not sure if it's still the case but Scunthorpe and Burnley were in the same box as a Subbuteo team! That always annoyed me for some reason. Remember going to the Old Showground in that 86/87 season. What a crumbling mess that place was!!

I suspect we are also listed as West Ham and Aston Villa

I used to be involved in Athletics and one of our girls was badly hurt at Skipton Grammar School annual X-Country meet. St. Johns ambulance in attendance said if they took her to Airedale Hospital the meeting would have to stop. Don’t know the truth of that as I’ve run many fell races with no ambulance on stand-by but I took her anyway.
My thought was what’s the point in you being here.
