Peter sellers
Would have been a centenarian today had he still been alive.

Re: Peter sellers
A genius but, by all accounts, a pretty unpleasant man.
That said, his Clouseau performances are probably some of my favourite in comedy.

Re: Peter sellers
A funny, funny man, ‘The Party’ was a Sellers masterpiece along with his Inspector Clouseau movies. I also remember him from ‘The Goon Show’ with Michael Bentine, Harry Secombe and Spike Milligan which was probably the blue print for zany comedy shows such as ‘Monty Pythons’ and ‘Fawlty Towers’.

The out takes for the breaking wind in the Lift are brilliant. Regularly shown on It'll be alright on the night and as said the Clouseau character was genius. Of it's time now I guess

A piece of Sellers trivia. He was christened Richard Henry Sellers but his parents started cslling him Peter after his older brother who was still-born.

Watched a three part Arena series on him last week that was made in the 1990s. It might be on the BBC iPlayer. Well worth watching. He was before my time, however, I have seen most of his films, the successful ones at least. His was a comic genius, but also a deeply flawed person .

My dad loved all of the goons and introduced me to them, and this sketch in particular regularly has me howling with laughter.
It's not even that funny, but the idea that a busy body foreign policeman type has time to pet a dog, ask as to the dog's intentions to a bizarre stoned einstein character, and still get bitten is somehow the funniest thing. I can't tell you why, it just is. Do you have a 'rheum' is just icing.

Person after Clouseau sneezes: "Gezundheit"

I thought he was brilliant in “ Dr Strangelove”
A very funny, if slightly disturbing, film.

Re: Peter sellers
Parkinson when commenting on re runs of past guests, showed the interview with Sellars when he, Sellars, when announced walked onto the set in a German war helmet and leather jacket and muttered something like Churchill a painter. Hitler, there was a painter one bedroom two coats in a day. He then sat down and was interviewed as Sellars.
Parky said the Sellars was not able to walk onto the show, walk down the steps, sit in the chair as Peter Sellars and has to come on in character.
Sellars was a very complicated man who left his children just a few dollars in his multimillion dollar will. His then wife whom he was about to initiate divorce proceedings at the time of his death, got most of his estate.

Re: Peter sellers
More than brilliant. He played three parts to perfection and was supposed to be playing the part of the pilot of the plane carrying the bomb as well. The part eventually went to Slim Pickens after Sellers couldn’t master the Texan accent required.Middle-agedClaret wrote: ↑Tue Sep 09, 2025 11:16 amI thought he was brilliant in “ Dr Strangelove”

I tried to read the ‘Life and Death…’ book, but it was hard going. He pushed his nanny into a (lit) fireplace when he was young, she badly burned her hands and arms.

i also watched the arena trilogy and it was quite the revelation.
he was a truly gifted man but was obviously dreadfully spoiled by his overbearing mum.

Re: Peter sellers
The biopic of Sellers seems to get to the heart of the man.
Brilliant comedian nontheless.
