Is anyone else feeling apathetic today?

Post by Anonymous Claret » Sun Sep 14, 2025 8:07 am

This question is not completely true but I cannot remember a game in recent years where I have felt hardly any enthusiasm on the morning of the match.

We are playing the current league champions and IMO the best team in the EPL by some distance at the moment. It's also my first live game this season. I watched the Spurs game and half of the Sunderland game on a stream. I watched the highlights of the Man Utd game and I haven't even seen the goals from the Derby game.

I felt more enthused during the Cotterrill years about going to the games-maybe I am a masochist? It's really weird because on the face of it I should be looking forward so much to this game but I am just not. I am sick of the corrupt circus that is the EPL and everything that goes with it such as VAR, cheating, corporate businesses or nation states running football clubs etc?

If we scored a 95th minute winner today I will obviously be ecstatic and all of the above will be forgotten temporarily. I know everyone will feel different and that is cool. I am only trying to gauge if anyone feels similar to myself.

Felt that way for quite a few two years ago.

Looking forward to this one though.

I don't think we've much chance of winning, a point would be superb.
You've got to give it a bash, though.

Legendary games are thus created....

There's probably two games in the PL when I head for TM pretty much knowing we're gonna lose - this one and City.

You can only hope.

That's the difference between going to a game hoping to win and going to a game expecting to lose.

I expect us to lose today. And it's a Sunday so I can't make a day of it. Very few redeeming features before the game.

The apathy comes from knowing that even if we nearly pulled something off, var would "fix it".

These games are what it’s all about. We’re likely going to lose, it’s highly probable we’re going to be soundly beaten, but I’d rather be playing Liverpool at home in the Prem than any Championship fixture.

Weirdly we’ve always been pretty competitive against Liverpool at home. We haven’t got too many results, except that 2-0, I don’t think, but generally we’ve always been in games, even under VK. With Luis, Cullen and Ugochukwu we’ve got a midfield which can compete, and a team that will graft, so I’m looking forward to it and holding some semi delusional optimism of a point. If anything I’m hoping for a better defensive performance than in the two away games.

i really don't know how to respond to the op.

i thought all of the inadequacy in footy was the cheating, the disparity, the money the politics and wayne rooney.

i had no idea it was about dreading our next match.

Liverpool are relatively vulnerable in defence this season (conceded two against Bournemouth and Newcastle) so it's probably a good time to play them. Looking forward to it personally.

The majority of the Premier League won't win games against Liverpool this year. Today's game doesn't just measure our standing against Liverpool but against these other teams too. The least we can do is try our best because every other team will do the same hoping, not expecting, a result.

Unlike previous seasons, they can be got at, there’s a vulnerability to them that comes with bedding in the new fullbacks and Konates loss of form. Stopping them up the other end though is a different ball game.

It's the hope that kills you.
I'm normally an optimistic, but I can't help the feeling of resignation. On holiday with family in NI, so I will be incommunicado with my fingers crossed in my pocket.

Today, as in all big games, is about the performance not the result. We've shown the good and the bad against Spurs and Man U, Today we need to get ugly.

With the Ref & Var on their side, we dont need any of our players to do anything rash and get sent off - Liverpool dont need us to loose a man to help them win the game.
On the plus side…..lets give it a good go, and get behind our team! UTC

We've already conceded over a third of last season's total goals. We are doomed!

On the other hand, all games are winnable too.

Most of our games are premier league, but I tend to view games against the top 4 as a level above. It's unlikely we will ever play in the champions league, so it's great to have the opportunity to play teams who do.

Massive tests for the team and all the individuals today. Great first game for Luis.
I want to see how we try to play today, and how we end up playing, as the match unfolds. Our concentration levels, and if we are able to limit individual mistakes against the strongest team in the league.
I also want to try to see if we can maintain the enthusiasm required till the final whistle. We could gain so much confidence from this game going forward.

That is true, and in 50 odd years of going to games it’s only these recent forays into the Premier League where the “expecting to lose” has become a thing.

It can all change with a couple of early Burnley goals though…..

Must be honest to feeling a little nonplussed. Still got a bitter taste from OT and I don't expect anything different today. Just sub Bruno for Virgil to ref the match. I think there's a fine line. I accept their both captains and have been given licence be spokesman for the team but its incessant. All I ask for is a level playing field on the field and imo it's far from equal.

Thing is it’s not a novelty , it’s Sunday afternoon and it’s on tv etc and we’re facing one of the very best teams in the world . However it’s our first “ super club “ home game and I’m looking forward to it . We’re gradually putting in the jigsaw pieces of our side and hopefully we can make a game of it and who knows ?

More hope than expectation. But although Liverpool are a good side, they're not as good as the Man City sides of the past few 5-0 defeats.
