Marseille v PSG

Post by ClaretsPadiham » Mon Sep 22, 2025 8:57 pm

Just watched it, Marseille won 1-0, the first time they have beaten PSG in 5 years.

Some atomosphere btw, puts any ground in England to shame.

Tough game for the ref lots of fouls and could and maybe should of been more yellows.

Unsure how big of a game it is but Marseille have done a lap of honour and are still on the pitch.

Biggest game in France, must also probably be the derby where both teams are equally disliked by the neutral, Marseille might edge the dislike ability factor.

Hardly a derby, couldn't be much further apart.

Got sent off after half an hour in his last league game after playing full 90 in opening 2 games

Looks like he’s going to have wait to get place back

After they signed Benjamin Pavardon on deadline day it looks like it will be a long wait.

CJER looked suseptible in his first couple of games, then getting sent off in the next one, the manager obviously observed that and brought in a quality / proven RCB at the level.

What do you think constitutes a derby?

If you are suggesting proximity is always a factor - how does El Classico fit into the equation?

Simple. El Classico isn’t a derby.

For British fans derbies must be local. In other countries, they sometimes consider games between historic rivals as being akin to derbies irrespective of distance. OM v PSG was turned into a "classic" match back in the early 1990s above all by Canal +, the subscription broadcaster who happened to own PSG, in order to ramp up interest in a league totally dominated by Marseille (Waddle period). Ironically now Canal + no longer own PSG they win the title every season (more or less).

It was the first victory for Marseille against PSG at home for 14 years.

Pavard and Balerdi or Aguerd will form the CB partnership. It's going to be tough for CJER to get a start.
