Former county cricketer and test umpire Harold ‘Dickie’ Bird has passed away at 92.

Respected by all who played the game - a legend. RIP sir

Never really got into watching cricket, but would often watch if I noticed Dickie Bird was umpiring as I channel hopped. His enthusiasm and good humour poured out of the screen. A real eccentric and old style gentleman whose cherry dispensation made the world want to be his friend. He will be sadly missed. RIP DB x

Was it at Old Trafford where he marched to the boundary to have a go at people in a hospitality box because their windows were reflecting sunlight?

RIP Dickie, a character, eccentric but as said, a very good umpire. For a Yorkshireman.

One of sports great characters who was respected by everyone involved in cricket. A shame he didn’t make his third century.

Met him during Benson and Hedges Matches in the Seventies when I drove Alan Wharton to matches - Alan was the rep. for B and H. Dickie's first question to Alan: Have you any free fags Wharton?
Also met him in the Hospitality Lounge at Barnsley v Burnley a few years ago.

Dickie Bird and Alan Wharton were both in the Leicestershire side that played against Lancashire in the first ever Gillette Cup match in 1963.

Really liked him as I saw him as one of the good guys in cricket

Absolute legend to many of a certain age
Very few sports officials will reach that level

One of the best was Dickie, a really popular and respected figure, very good ump to boot.

Came across as a friendly guy, even when giving them out! Enhanced cricket and as an umpire, that says something of the man.

Met hime at Torquay away strangely enough, he was in the bar after the game.

Think we won 1=0 sept 1989 we talked about England going to Australia, really nice chap.

Im sure Cyril Knowles was the manager.
