Didn’t watch the game- but I always like to read the ratings.

Is there a UTC strike this week?

What's the point. These games are just try and hold on for dear life.

Realistically Foster just as an example should get a 3 or a 4. But that'd be extremely harsh knowing what an impossible task he had, so it's easier just not to bother

Hard to do ratings - I thought we gave it a good go for an hour. The word I always use is ‘overwhelmed’ when we play these ‘super’ clubs. They have so much quality. When they brought Bernardo Silva on, that just sums up how they operate in a different universe to us.

The key this season is forgetting these kind of games as soon as the final whistle goes and prepare for the more competitive games.

Dúbravka 7 Not at fault for any of the goals.
Walker 6 Played well going forwards, but Doku caused him problems all game.
Laurent 5 difficult because he spent most of his time trying to help Walker
Ekdal 5 Did ok but a difficult day for him
Estève 4 harsh but he scored two o.gs both time times he couldn’t sort his feet out, poor positioning. The first goal unsettled him, the second did for him. He will have better days
Hartman 5 Savinho caused him problems, did well considering he got a booking in the first half
Cullen 6 played well, lots of endeavour and put his body on the line on more than one occasion.
Florentino 6 got a lot of tackles in, passing an link up looked good and put a shift in
Tchaouna 5 struggled today
Anthony 6 another goal but hardly saw the ball
Foster 5 another who hardly saw the ball.

Difficult to score, had it been 3-1 I think that would have been a fair reflection on the game. We ran out legs and got a bit ragged at the end.
There were some good bits we showed character to come back from one down and go in at 1-1 at half time. Second half was a bit of an onslaught and once the second and third went in, you knew the game was up.
Think we need an extra body in midfield rather than one at the back. Its not a game that defines us, but after the result in midweek we needed a better performance.

Never known so many few ratings at this time after a match. Only saw second half so can’t contribute

Dúbravka 7
Walker 6 Wayward passing but defended well overall against Doku
Laurent 5 If he had some pace his marks would be higher but his lack of pace lets him down
Ekdal 5 some poor free headers but defended quite well
Estève 5 Bad day at the office but he`s a big boy no doubt he`ll be back
Hartman 6 thought he played really well especially going forward
Cullen 7 MoM seemed to be everywhere, put a real shift in
Florentino 6 nothing special, nothing wrong
Tchaouna 6 worked hard and helped out defensively but we need more from him going forward
Anthony 6 Can`t weigh him up, scores a good goal but seems slow and lightweight in possession sometimes
Foster 4 Still don`t think he`s the one when playing one up front, poor ball control/retention doesn`t give us a real outlet, the lad works hard but just isn`t up to the required standard at this level

JBL 4 was he on, but same can be said for all the other subs and I personally feel Parker making the last two subs did more harm than good, it didn`t benefit the players coming on and caused more disruption organizationally leading to us conceding two late goals undermining the excellent defensive work gone before, a massive OG for Scotty

Hate watching us play city, it's like a trip to the dentist, so watched the Ryder cup instead. Checked the score at half time and was pleasantly surprised. Got a score notification at full time and normal service was resumed.

Dubravka 7 I wouldn't swap him for the City bench warmer.
Walker 5 I think the occasion affected KW and thus took away a huge chunk of our creativity.
Laurent 5 Wasn't his best but it wasn't for anyone. I'd persevere.
Ekdal 4 I know the game was well gone but he should have left the clearance for Maxime
Esteve 4 He's got loads of credit in the bank but it wasn't his finest.
Hartman 6 Showed plenty of promise and tried to drive us forward on occasion.
Cullen 7 He tried and put in a shift.
Florentino 7* Kept probing and showed some composure at times. My MOM
Tchaouna 5 Very much off it.
Anthony 6 I've given him an extra point for the goal but he was on the fringes most of the afternoon.
Foster 5 Very much isolated but its not his fault. No one in MF creating anything.

Bruun Larsen 3 IMO the biggest puzzle of the summer window. No impact at all.

Watched on the Telly. Bit depressing after having watched Brentford de-construct Man United and, of course later, Sunderland beat Forest away and Leeds being a whisker away from 3 points.

I think, firstly, if Ugochukwu is fit and available should be starting and we should be playing 4-5-1. The back 5 is probably useful away at some of the middling clubs but against City at the Etihad it's never going to work for 90 minutes. I just think we shot ourselves in the foot and simply got ground into submission after a decent first hour.

You also need an outball with a back 5 and there really wasn't one after an hour. The forwards had run themselves in to the ground and the replacements are simply not of the same quality. I suppose a 'we told you so' is appropriate here. We needed a striker and didn't get one who looks fit and ready to go. Even accounting for the fact that we have had a hard start albeit Forest and United are struggling - it looks set to be a long season.

There is a lot to admire about this group but I can't see Forest, West Ham and Villa not improving.

Dubravka 7 None of the goals were his fault.
Walker 6 It's horrible playing for the other team isn't it Kyle!
Laurent 6 Doing okay against top opposition.
Ekdal 6 If the late goals had not gone in it would be a 7.
Esteve 6 Same as Ekdal. Two late goals made him seem worse.
Hartman 7 I'm very impressed with him. He's the one that gets us up the pitch. He set up our goal and brought one of the few saves from Donnarumma.
Cullen 7 As usual worked hard.
Florentino 6 Will be a very good acquisition.
Tchaouna 5 Not impressed - seemed very slow and wandered around aimlessly.
Anthony 7 Can't fault his goal scoring record but needs to get crosses in quicker, always cutting back.
Foster 6 Has got to start scoring but it's a hard road playing for Burnley as a lone striker when we play the top clubs.

Bruun Larsen 3 What on earth did we buy him back for and why does he keep being brought on as a sub? I'd rather have seen Barnesy come on - at least he would have knocked a couple of City players about a bit.

I've given the players better ratings than most because if we hadn't let in those two very late goals it would have been a decent effort against our bogey team. Those two goals were a real downer. We have had hard fixtures but have done well and must now pick up points against the 'lesser teams'. I know every game is hard in this league but it's a lot better playing West Ham or Wolves than Liverpool or Man City. UTC!

Old Trafford 8 - working as understudy to Donnarumma will really pay off for him in the long run
Walker 9 - leader. You’ll never beat him. Just like his Dad Desmond
Hartman 9 - instant replay needed on Dan’s contributions. Best LB since Mee
Ekdal 8 - Doesn’t have the legs that his ancestors did but an admirable understudy for BeckenBeyer
Steve - 10 MOM - how can you give anything else for a stunning brace that secured us a 3-3 draw

Captain Sensible 8 - a typically courageous performance from the heartbeat of the team
Defour 9 - his day will come but he is the Da Vinci code for this team. Like a young Kante at Lester

Meredith 10 - underrated and unfairly maligned by some but rightly rated by the Gaffa. The result was never in doubt once he bagged (again!). Sure ✔️ he’s frustrating but he won’t let you down
Hannibal 8 - He’s a worrier but he’s a warrior too. Was in their heads all game and it showed. His mere presence merits an 8. Once The Masterplan comes together he’ll be our lynchpin
Benson 7 - give him time to settle in and he’ll come good. The language barrier can’t be helping. Non mollare mai and Pretiumque et causa laboris

Foster 9 - just like his cousin Noah, Lyle’s pace terrifies them. Great to see him full of belief again. European football will suit him as he gears up for a tilt at the big one next summer

Parka 7 - needs to do better. A point could have been 3. SD will be turning in his grave. The Chosen One needs to take the pebble from the Jedimaster’s hand but he’ll get there. More cultured coaches than him have failed at the House of Sand but his foundations are firmly built on The Rock. Further analysis of the Dycheball mantra and a more rounded knowledge of His Masterplan will see him succeed and earn his spurs and sabre

Ownership group 5 - must do better and release the shackles they are placing on the club. Too timid. Black box thinking needed.

The Longside 10 - often too subdued on Awaydays but they amped up the dial and roared the team to a famous moral victory against the BBC and SKY. You won’t see them in Garth Crook’s team of the week but they should be!
