Re: JonJo Shelvey
you don't find it bizarre someone of his ability has had to go to the third level of UAE football to get a club ? It's bizarre
Re: JonJo Shelvey
Was more bizarre us signing him when he was clearly miles away.

It would be bizarre to find someone of Shelvey's ability of 5-10 years ago going to the UAE's third-tier.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 4:38 pmyou don't find it bizarre someone of his ability has had to go to the third level of UAE football to get a club ? It's bizarre
For a player of the ability Shelvey showed when he was here, the UAE's third-tier might be a stretch.
Still, at least we'll always have that pass that nearly found it's target. Great days.

Re: JonJo Shelvey
Be honest, when he hit that one 50-60 yard through ball to (I think Foster?) from deep in the final minutes of the game against Sheff Wed? he looked like absolute mustard and we all got very excited..
... sadly that was quickly put to bed with his showing against PNE!

What happened to Nathan Redmond? I thought that he might have had something to offer.

Re: JonJo Shelvey
Contract expired and he left the club. He doesn't appear to have been picked up by anybody, which is surprising unless he's asking for too much. Could EASILY make a lower league side.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 5:58 pmWhat happened to Nathan Redmond? I thought that he might have had something to offer.

Re: JonJo Shelvey
Sometimes players have just faded out and no longer have the desire, skills or drive to carry on
Its sometimes best just to call it a day.I have got panned previously for suggesting the hyping up certain players way above their actual ability is a problem. However we seem to have a pool of players who have faded in recent times.

Sheffield United took him on trial (when Selles was still manager) but seemingly didn’t offer him a deal. Still without a club.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 5:58 pmWhat happened to Nathan Redmond? I thought that he might have had something to offer.

Re: JonJo Shelvey
Good luck to the lad. He can play with his one good leg and be a star, in that league.

Third-tier football in the UAE must be a joy to behold.
Re: JonJo Shelvey
A selection of the posts when we were linked to him in January...
"Shelvey is an absolutely insane signing.
He’s way way too good for this league. Best player in this league and we haven’t even had to pay a fee."
_________
"Technique, technique, technique.
You never lose it, at 32 playing in the Championship he will be top class."
_________
"He replaces Laurent in the starting 11 for me"
________
"Shelvey is a very good player....if you dont realise that then you dont know sh1t about football or your expectations are ludicrously high.
So he's been benchwarming in Outer Mongolia or wherever.. that's not made him a bad player overnight..and if he's in any way unfit then you can be sure he won't be coming.
The muppets talking him down are probably the same as those who've slagged nearly every incoming since, and including Ings.
Hope this happens....it's a big piece of the jigsaw."

Only flaw with this post, the quotes are missing who said it but thinking about it I could probably name each poster who said what, the usual suspectsMattster wrote: ↑Mon Sep 29, 2025 1:20 pmA selection of the posts when we were linked to him in January...

Re: JonJo Shelvey
The poster digging others out that you have just replied to is the one who states Anthony is only in the side because he is Parker's favourite and should be dropped in favour of Koleosho.
He isn't as quick to highlight the dumb stuff he posts himself.
Re: JonJo Shelvey
I feel I was pretty accurate here:
aggi wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 10:59 amGood that we haven't lost any first teamers (possibly Rodriguez excluded) and moved on a few that we didn't need.
Bad that we've not added much.
Edwards could be good and is the main bright spark of the window, but it is likely he'll need easing in and may not feature enough to make a difference.
I may be entirely wrong but I'm predicting that Shelvey will have as much impact as when we signed Gazza.
Sonne seems fine as backup and will be valuable if Roberts is out but unlikely to improve us.
Barnes I just can't see him featuring much apart from seeing games out (which we haven't really struggled with).
Banel, suspect we won't see much of him this year.

Good luck to him, he's there to top up his pension pot, most of us would do the same if we had a chance.

It's all a bit petty though.
I'm sure most regular posters, myself included, have posted opinions and been wrong.
