One of the back up games is Burnley v Derby from Jan 1976. We do lose though.

Before my time, just looked at this season results on here and some of the crowds surprised me.

Didn't Taffy play for them at that time?

Oh yes and he didn’t behave himself. I’m not certain but I think he and Charlie George might have scored their goals.

If it's the match I'm thinking of he got dog's abuse from the Longside.
Chants of 'What a waste of money' etc.

Yes 1-2 indeed just checked, him and Charlie George.
I might be on the wrong game, but was there major disorder on the Long Side between the two sets of fans?

Certainly remember something like that v Derby in the mid Seventies.

4 of us got surrounded by their **** against the Cricket Field wall. A bike cop dropped his bike and came wading in kicking and punching. They scattered, he saved us from a good hiding.

I'll be giving this a watch. I've no memory of Taffy's goal but recall the other two pretty well. Paul Fletcher equalised just after half time with a well struck shot and we looked on course for a deserved point until the last couple of minutes when George lobbed the ball home after a mistake by Waldron I think. There was some controversy with us complaining that Franny Lee had blatantly fouled Keith Newton just before the goal.

Well done him. Burnley cop, obviously. Pre-thatcherwoman so respect from the fans, who wouldn't take on a copper in case a shed load came and sorted the!

That Spurs v Man U game was proper football. That first challenge by spurs on Hill, straight red today, probably a few pushing and shoving. There, nothing! No surrounding the ref. Spurs “penalty”. Again, no complaining. Get on with it.
Stepney had a dodgy game. Ralph had a good game.
I enjoyed that.

Again, our game, just so good to watch. Billy Ingham & Flynny had good runs.

How good did the Longside look?

Yes. I enjoyed that.

We met Stuart Pearson at the burnley game a few weeks ago. He was talking to us for about 20 minutes and was such a great bloke. He was very complimentary about Burnley as a club too.

Jack Taylor / Ray Reardon with a shocking decision in spurs game denying the penalty. Buchan took out Duncan at waste level !!

Pitches were awful. Standard of play technically, physically and pace wise a million miles behind today’s standards. But not helped at all by those pitches - little point trying to play the ball on the deck on those pitches.

Still enjoyable to watch and plenty of really good players like Taffy, Archie Gemmill, Gordon Hill.

And of course great to see our V strip !

First obvious thing was the state of the pitch but a hell of a good right foot shot from Taffy that Gerry Peyton saved and a good finish from Fletcher.

It was our first home game following Adamson’s sacking and the first game after Frank Casper had hung up his boots.

Big midfield too with Brian Flynn & Billy Ingham in there.

I’ve not watched the rest of the programme yet but it’s one I watch every week.
