Charlie Austin's rant at manager

Post by ClaretTony » Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:50 am

Apparently he's turned on manager Ralph Hasenhüttl in the dressing room at Southampton in front of all the other players, calling him disrespectful. He's been made available and told to train with the under-23s but says he wants to stay.

He must have come in for some stick from Saints' fans because he's reportedly disconnected his social media accounts.

He was celebrating Liverpool winning the Champions league final on twitter that went down like a lead balloon.

Liverpool's attempt to sign every saints player there's ever been isn't appreciated down that neck of the woods. Instead of apologising him and his Mrs argued with Saints fans about it all night.

Might be a differing opinion to most but always felt he would be perfect at a top 6 club. Not as a starter but as an option off the bench that when a goal is needed he would be there to bring on. With the amount of chances created at places like Man Utd he would bag hatfuls.

Not entirely sure about that. He was one of the most natural finishers I’ve seen at Burnley but we were playing against Championship defenders and he exposed team’s weaknesses at defending crosses. We also had the best crosser of the ball I’ve ever seen at Burnley.

You don’t see an awful lot of headed goals from open play in the PL these days, I’m guessing that’s because it’s a low-percentage way of playing the game and the defenders at the top level are able to deal with that threat a lot better.

I’m not convinced he offers any more than, say, Ashley Barnes.

Yeah saw her wife tweeted the other day about missing London and how it is her home. I may read too much into some of these tweets but read it as she wants to move back to London so wouldnt surprise me him ending up somewhere like Palace, although if he was willi g to drop down a league Fulham would be a great move for him

Liverpool don't need the goals though when they have that front three.

If Liverpool were to sign a Ricky Lambert type player it would set them back years!

His reputation of "putting it about" and partying a lot.
It seems he does what she wants when he wants.

Wouldn't surprise me if he went off the rails once he's done with football.
Seems to have a lot of hangers on, who dont really want the best for him, his career, or his life.

And I hated it when he was playing against us.
Always looked a threat.
Might be in a minority but I'd have him back too.

Rileybobs was making a comparison between Austin and Barnes.
Austin is 3 months older than Barnes and their PL records are:-
Austin started 106, come on as sub on 37 occasions. Scored 34 and has 8 assists.
Barnes started 136, come on as sub on 41 occasions. Scored 32 and has 6 assists.
Both have been relegated once.

I forgot to add ---I don't know whether or not Ash has ever had a rant at Sean!

He was fantastic for us although we always got better results when he was out of the team. Why would you want him back though? He’s not the same player.

Stats are all well and good but much like the Bruce/Dyche comparison yesterday, one is getting better and the other is a busted flush. I reckon if you compare the last couple of seasons Barnes would be clearly the better of the two. It’s all very well being the best natural finisher in the world but you have to be on the pitch to do that and it helps if you are not spitting your dummy out every five minutes as Charlie seems to be these days

Not sure where those starts have come from. I've got Austin as only starting 69 Premier League games, 35 for QPR and 34 for Southampton but what is fact is that he's only scored 16 league goals since signing for Southampton in January 2016 and has only started those 34 games.

Premier League records

Austin started 69, on as a sub 37, scored 34
Barnes started 95, on as a sub 41, scored 32

You are correct Tony because I worded it wrongly ---your figures are correct. I worked it out and then forgot to subtract the sub appearances. Thanks for the correction!

They came from the PL site --here are Ashley's figures

He’s hardly kicked a ball in 2 years
Had several injuries and acts like a big time Charlie (appropriate for both his name and his favourite hobby)

We were lucky to have him when he was relatively injury free and he was a very good player for us.

To say he is better than what we have got now makes no sense....better at what exactly ?

Looks like Lemina, Clasie and Carillo in no longer sharing the same dressing room as the first team squad. All been told they can leave as soon as possible. Lemina is being chased by the top clubs but Clasie is one I would be interested in.
