Seems to be working pretty well given I haven't touched it from last season.
Think I just need to fix the form section but that doesn't come into play yet anyway.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, their next four fixtures are Boro ( H ), Hull ( A ), Cardiff ( H ) & West Brom ( A ) ... not that we've got it easy, mind !

Hi Vince, why those 3 teams fixtures? What about the teams around the Clarets? OK, we play Palace and Spurs, currently 10th and 12th. What do we need to do to be ahead of Brighton (8th), Bournemouth (7th) and Sheff Utd (5th) before Xmas?

Hi Paul,
Bottom three. Get 3 teams magic numbers to zero and we are safe. This must be our first goal in any premier league season.

Sort of. It works as if every team takes 3 points from every game + 1 extra point for potential goal difference. That number will decrease for each team as the season goes on until, hopefully, 3 teams move to 0 or below which means that they cannot attain the number of points Burnley have gained at that time so we cannot be relegated. The more teams that we see at 0 or below the higher we finish at the end of the season

Of course, you are correct, Vince. I'm getting ahead of myself. Clarets in 10th after 12 games with 15 points. But, it's tight between Sheff Utd on 17 points in 5th and relegation places on 7 and 8 points.

I understand how it works. I just don't understand how it tells anyone what the table doesn't.

If you read through the threads from the last two years it will help you understand how the magic numbers show the progress throughout the season and how we are safe well before you would normally think we are. As long as we survive

Technically it's the maximum number of points a team can get over the remainder of the season minus the number of points that Burnley have plus one.
You can of course get that from the league table but it saves having to do the calculation, particularly later on in the season when teams have games in hand.
