A question for refs

Post by Foulthrow » Sat Dec 07, 2019 5:19 pm

My son scored for his junior team this morning. He took a corner, hit the post, came back to him and he put it in. Nobody else touched it. Should this goal have counted? My inclination is that it shouldn’t have. Thoughts?

Sounds like a good corner routine to me

If the refs allow it I think we should try it against the Toon next week

Sounds like a good goal to me, on what grounds would you disallow it?

It would be classed as a “double kick”

If, after the ball is in play, the kicker touches the ball again before it has touched another player an indirect free kick is awarded; if the kicker commits a handball offence:

Yeah like a pen rebounding off the post and the taker putting it in I guess.

A player is not allowed to touch the ball twice from a corner kick. I remember being stood at the bee hole end 50 ish years ago when Dave Thomas hit the post from a corner and then controlled the ball when it came back to him. He could not understand why the referee penalised until the official went to him to explain.

Better than what we've currently got though.

A couple of points on the corner kick are new to me: the 'Four Second' rule, and the fact that you can't score an own goal direct from a corner:

'A goal may be scored directly from a corner kick, but only against the opposing team.'

Which team can't score an own goal from a corner?

The team taking a corner

Although it would have to be an impressive kick to get it into the goal from a corner at the other end of the pitch
