First four rounds of the League Cup all in September! Dyche will need all his tactical nous to ensure we go out soon as possible this year. Clubs will be putting the catering staff out for these games so it won’t be so easy to make it look like a genuine exit this season...

I joke but they might as well have not bothered with it this year rather than schedule it as they have.

the money for winning the competition has been pretty much halved, not great for the smaller teams that earn money as they progress

No place in the Europa League for the League Cup winners from next season either, instead they'll earn a place in the new third tier European competition. I think both domestic cups will struggle more and more going forward sadly.

This is the first I've heard about a new European competition. Is there really any need? Is it the European equivalent of the Johnson's paint trophy? It'll just be a consolation cup for clubs knocked out of the Europa, much as the Europa is for the Champions league. What a load of absolute tosh.

Yep pretty much! Teams will drop into it after the EL group stage, and winning it earns you a place in the following season's Europa League group stage.

Uefa say it's to benefit the smaller nations, but I think they'd have been better off creating a competition to run alongside the EL rather than below it.

If it was starting a year earlier, Spurs would be preparing to take part in it
