Agree, but I would hope that after 5 years in the prem that strategy could evolve a bit. That Phillips bid last year had my hopes up for this summer anyway.MACCA wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 11:08 amWe shop at the car boot with a similar approach regards purchasing, rather than going to the bright lights of the Trafford centre paying whatever the price tag says.

You never change a winning team, or strategy in this case.
It doesnt get better than this with the current set up in place.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
You certainly do add to a winning team or aim improve upon a strategy.

No different than any other year.
We won't see anymore movement until the end of the window unless we want to be fleeced, it is and always has been the case

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
A few PL clubs are doing their business early, others are I guess waiting for the right deal towards the end of the window.
Waiting can lead to desperation in some case, as you fail to secure your first, second and so on choices. For example if we are looking for CH cover then Duffy of Brighton (who will not be expensive) will appear a bargain AFTER he has been snapped up by someone as we approach window close. He is someone who can walk straight into the team if Tarks or Meee are injured
I know we have are around 30 days of the window left, but you would have thought that the recruitment team that has recently experienced the smallest squad in PL history , had a few names in place weeks and weeks ago. Its as if they have just started looking, and you can bet our targets, if we have any, will be snapped up by more decisive clubs if we delay

True. Dyche has already intimated that we don't usually sign players early because it costs extra money. I'm assuming he means paying an extra month/two months wages before we kick a ball. Bit different this year but the premise will be the same. It does limit our chances though.Top Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 1:00 pmNo different than any other year.

Would like to think right midfield is the priority. Considering we have 3 options, 2 of which are a shoo-in for the treatment table and the other is a central midfielder.

I don't think its because of the extra months wages - it's more to do with the 'value' we try and drive from the deal. To get a deal done early - its a bit like buying a house - you can go in straight away and offer full price and get it off the market - or you can put in an offer and accept that the seller may want to let other people view and give it a bit longer on the market before deciding with a hope of getting another interested parties.BenWickes wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 1:17 pmTrue. The only difference is that people selling houses are usually motivated to sell so where the above differs is imagine trying to get a deal of someone whose house you like but it wasn't on the market, nor had the seller thought about putting it on the market.
We don't have finances to go and make them a too good to resist offer to get it done early - there is no value in that to the club from what I can tell.

It's a great point your last comment, however if we have targets and wait and wait to strike, and then they go elsewhere, that surely cannot be good for the scouting / recruitment/ management team....basically why bother getting the targets...it is them who people point the finger at, instead of him / them upstairs.clarethomer wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 1:33 pmI don't think its because of the extra months wages - it's more to do with the 'value' we try and drive from the deal. Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I think my example is very simplistic but we have good history of not not paying more than we think they are worth.
We saw that with Jay Rod in the years leading up to his return.
That is where I think an investor will take us to in that we could go in and say you know what - we will pay that extra premium to get them in a bit sooner.

That's why Mr Dyche gets frustrated, and says we need to stretch the budget a little some time for the right player.
Or you end up not improving your first 11 for a couple of seasons after you end up with option E,F,G and so on rather than A or B.

A lot of our problems come from the market we shop
In. The domestic one is vastly over inflated.
There are lots of talented players in other leagues around the world who cost much less than an average championship player.
We need first team players bought in. Chanced our luck too much regards transfers in the past few seasons.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Good point. Think it depends on the situation. We’re more likely to get fleeced for Gibson as the window progresses, for example. The exception being if a bidding war develops, which you’d imagine unlikely for a player who hasn’t kicked a ball in 2 years.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 7:02 pmIs their any reason to suggest we are less likely to get fleeced towards the end of the window?
Early in a window any club can ask a ridiculous price in the hope someone is willing to pay it. As it develops, they come under more pressure to reduce their demands, especially if the player wants to leave, their contract is nearing end, or the club needs the money (as more will this year).
But with us you would expect/hope we’re in for players that other clubs will also want. Leaving it late then puts under pressure with only 13 fit players ahead of restart, which selling clubs will know.
I’ve come to the conclusion our strategy is to see who is left at the end of the window and then check Wyscout to see if we should take them!

I'm just looking at the Matty Cash deal at present. If we had bid £12m would we have got him (assuming we were interested)? I suppose the most likely scenario would have been a bidding war with Villa, which we probably would have lost.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 7:40 pmGood point. Think it depends on the situation. Who knows really? Deal isn’t confirmed yet, but assuming reports are true I imagine we ducked out as soon as we knew others with deeper pockets were in the race.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 7:59 pmI'm just looking at the Matty Cash deal at present. Dyche used some interesting phrases in last interview:
“we’re always first in the queue and first out”. Probably what happened with Cash when we offered £10m and Villa offered more.
“we still don’t have the budget confirmed”. Presumably since TV revenues not finalised for this season.
“We’re in for a few players we think might become available”. Assume this means players clubs are reluctant to sell but we think they might have to, or they’ve said they’ll sell if they can secure a replacement. Cash may have been a luxury signing for us, since we have two RB’s, hence not getting in a bidding war.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Not so much the transfer fee, I suspect, as the club the player wanted to move to. Even though we finished higher in the league than Villa last season, most players will see them as a better option, and I would imagine they pay their players a good bit more than we do. So if Villa wanted him, then there would be very little that we could do.

If he is good enough to play at the top level, then he has to be worth more than 4 mill.
I've never seen him play, so won't hazard a guess at what he's worth, but any way you look at it, its a joke.

Pope Tarkowski BarnesHeaton etc etc
Premiership players don't start at 4 million they start at potential to be top class players. Some fail along the way but good scouting and clear vision helps.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Not really. It depends on what other options the club have for other players. There's a lot of variables to take into account when you value a player. You can certainly never say someone at £4 mil isn't good enough for the Prem. Age, form, injury, how many other options the club have, the competition for places in that position... lots of things go into something like that.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 8:41 pmSurely the point is, if we think he's only worth 4 million, then he clearly isn't good enough for the prem.

All this bickering (CT and Ewan) is irrelevant, isn't it?
We value a player at £X, make that bid. Don't bid lower than our valuation because A: it could be seen as insulting and B: we know we will be outbid, what is the sense in it?

Assuming £12m is correct, it’s probably not a bad price for a young RB with potential. Questions is whether it is a priority position for us this window (I would say no with Lowts & Bardsley) and if it is, are other options available that we prefer (Bogle, Tripps)?
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Sean will be giving the board time to prove they are serious, and if we don't make a statement of intent this window, he'll be off.

Matty Cash has his own thread , read through that.
It tells you everything you needed to know, and I dont think you'll need to read past the first page.
Never in a million years were we going to potentially break our transfer record for a 3rd right back, with no PL experience and when our money is as tight as it is.

I’ve no idea. Can’t recall seeing Fry on more than one occasion and on that occasion he was poor. As for Worrall, I’ve no idea what would be our value but to accuse us as being deluded is somewhat disrespectful.

Nixon might be wrong on the £4m. Last week it was £4m plus Gibson (who we allegedly value at £12m), so that’s a £16m offer reduced to £4m. Sounds implausible.

As I said, I don’t know because I know little about him. But as has just been posted, the £4m has come from the same journalist who said recently that we’d offered that plus Gibson. I find the way we do our transfer business as frustrating as everyone else but I find it incredible that anyone could suggest we are deluded.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 9:48 pmThe point is though Tony, can you name one player of Worralls pedigree that has sold for 4mil in the last 12 months?
