It's now the fault of a mutant algorithm!

Some people really do believe all that rubbish.

Well you've succinctly illustrated that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about there.

I think it's pretty safe for people to disregard any post you make regarding statistics if that's really your level of understanding.
You couldn't sneer at me anymore if you tried

I see the top civil servant from the Department for Education has also stepped down (even though some were vociferous that exam results were nothing to do with the DfE).

You've got to wonder what Williamson has on Johnson to still be in his role. Although Johnson seems to think that the "algorithm" came into existence by itself and was nothing to do with anyone.

If you make things up then people will pick you up on it.

I did used to give you the benefit of the doubt on your whataboutery whenever anyone criticised the tory party but given this it's pretty clear that it was a front to just try and divert any criticism of them for some reason.

Civil servant is suing for constructive dismissal. How much has Johnson’s government paid out so far on things like this?

The chair of Ofqual making it quite clear who was making all the decisions re A Levels. The thought that Ofqual were working independently from DfE and the minister well and truly put to rest!

Never mind, we have a new slogan - "All in, All together". Except we're neither in nor together and we're not going to be for a long, long time.

Who writes this shite ? Oh, yes, him with the dodgy eyes.

It’s car crash stuff! Lying again (but then that’s normal for him) is bad enough, but then ranting about Starmer supporting the ‘IRA supporting Corbyn’ when he’s asked a hard question is desperate stuff.

Having the speaker intervene is a bit awkward.

People are, unsurprisingly, catching on to his making stuff up technique and it's becoming pretty common to see what he says refuted online before PMQs even finishes. I wonder whether that will change his approach or he'll just continue making stuff up in the knowledge that a lot of his loyal followers don't care that much about the truth.

Listened to it at lunchtime, my jaw hit the floor when the PM mentioned Corbyn and the IRA, firstly don't they realise JC is no longer leading the Labour party, but secondly more pertinently Claire Fox, who's now been rewarded with a peerage, can't they see the irony.

I had hoped the new parliamentary session might lead to a more consensual approach by this government, but that hope has been quickly dispelled.

I lost count of how many times BJ was asked about an extension of the furlough scheme, and his stock answer was everybody has to return to work, please explain to me how employees in the aviation and hospitality sectors, plus all the entertainment industry is supposed to return to work, when they can't open their facilities or perform any shows.

And the kickstarter scheme is only a sticking plaster, it's all well and good getting youngsters into employment/training, but let's be honest we all know that many employers will hire staff for the 6 months, and then once the government subsidies end, suddenly they'll find themselves back on the dole, and there's no guarantees that the job market will be any better by next spring.

I understand the treasury is loathe to keep funding wages, but if there's millions laid off, and therefore not paying tax etc, plus the welfare payments that will ensue from a spike in unemployment, it's by no means certain that the savings will outweight the cost.

And that doesn't even factor in the resultant health and social costs that would ensue in such an instance.

Who would want to be an MP in this day and age. Brexit, Covid, a failing economy, immigrants wanting to come here for benefits, floods, BLM, the media constantly watching you, the opposition party trying to bring you down at any opportunity, being told you're not giving enough financial support to the world and his wife and being told your to blame for everything that goes wrong. Wouldn't matter who was in power, it would be the worst government ever.

Today summed up the press and opposition.
Since lockdown was eased its always been the case the brakes could be applied if and when required.
Last week the infection rates were looking OK in Bolton, so it was announced restrictions could be lifted
However the rates since then have risen, so the lifting of the restrictions has been postponed.
A sensible decision, yet the press and opposition call it an embarrassing u turn.... Really? Or just proactively dealing with the situation?

There's obviously a massive amount of hypocrisy with Claire Fox. All those Brexit voters who slated Corbyn for what they perceived as IRA sympathies but who were happy to vote for someone who had very clear IRA sympathies (including defending a bombing where a child was killed) because she supported Brexit.

However, I think she's in the Lord's as a non-affiliated peer (I've no idea why and obviously she's a pretty large hypocrite for accepting it given previous comments) rather than being nominated by the Conservatives.

This Ofqual algorithm: I don't think it has been widely reported in the media but if the Centre Assessed Grade submitted by the school was lower than the algorithm grade - the higher algorithm grade was awarded.

This has benefited many students.

So far as I'm aware approx 2.5% went up, approx 40% went down and approx 58% remained the same. So whilst you could say "many" benefited" as an actual number, as a percentage it's extremely low.
And of course, due to how the algorithm was constructed, that small percentage was bound to come from schools who had previously scored highly.

Are you saying that the algorithm benefited 2.5% of the entire national cohort at both Post-16 and Yr11?
What I'm saying is that to many individual students - the grade awarded was higher than the Centre Assessed Grade awarded by the school.

What % of GSCE and A Level students benefited from the algorithm being used ahead of their centre assessed grades?

Are you saying that the algorithm benefited 2.5% of the entire national cohort at both Post-16 and Yr11?
What I'm saying is that to many individual students - the grade awarded was higher than the Centre Assessed Grade awarded by the school.
No I'm quoting the stats for "A" level.
We don't have the stats for GCSEs do we?
According to Ofqual the number that went up was just over 2.2%

OK, thanks.
Apologies, I should've been clearer. My point was for GCSEs.

Best time now to move university start of year to January, permanently. Would facilitate late exams this next time and ensure places awarded on actual results ipv guesses and teachers over-enthusiasm.

Boris Johnson was absolutely embarrassing at PMQs today, the guy can barely string a coherent sentence together. I think even the Tories are waking up to how clueless he is now, Sunak or Gove will be in charge by the time the next election comes around, if not a lot sooner.
