queens honours list ?

Post by Wile E Coyote » Fri Oct 09, 2020 11:42 pm

rashford now an MBE, and a host of already incredibly wealthy rugby and other minor sports nonentities similarly awarded with titles.
Nothing at all wrong with a good cause, but just adding your name to a campaign already up and running by lesser lights is hardly worthy of a gong from liz.
it shouldnt take celebrity culture to right the wrongs of modern society, but inevitably it does.

TBF WEC a lot of the honours are for key workers, and their role should be rightly noted for their work during the pandemic, where many went beyond the call of duty. I do agree about the amount of sportspeople being honoured for merely performing their roles which they are already handsomely paid for, and why 6 members of the SAGE committee are being recognised beats me.

The people who've really gone way above and beyond got a little clap on a Thursday evening.

My 27 year old daughter volunteered for transfer to the covid I/C ward at the children's hospital.. Worked throughout the crisis, often sleeping in the hospital to be available overnight. She wasn't the only one.

They're not interested in this crap.. Its just a political game, and it's riddled with bribery and corruption.

The public has been complaining about this since Harold Wilson made a mockery of the system 1 year . That said ,sporting wise you had to be an Olympic gold medalist /world champion etc to get an OBE and after many yrs service to sport /charity etc an MBE . Finally after a lifetime of the previous you may get the knighthood , or in extraordinary cases .

Let’s not forget a few yrs ago Beckham employed an agency full time to bring about his nomination for “Sir” inc the obligatory playing football with barefoot african kids etc etc though all to avail , somebody perhaps forget to tell Becks he didn’t win anything for Eng or even come near .

I expect members of these committees do many hours of unpaid work as i did when I sat on a National Committee for 6 years-although never got a gong.

Someone has to recommend the individual and fill the forms in, justifying the award.

The guy who created my local Community Farm got an MBE, simply because one of the volunteers saw his effort, commitment and personal funding of the project and local value. Forms completed and award success.

Just to continue, that is why institutions do so well. The army and other services are riddled with gongs. It is their nature. They have the form fillers.

The rest of us usually just say, "Great guy or great woman" and carry on life.

I think those who do things which are not part of their ordinary work like sportsmen and politicians or Civil Servants are no more deserving than anyone else who does their job well. Calls for Anderson to get one of the highest honours for being a good cricketer will get rewarded I am sure as did some of the Olympians, but that is all they did.(I may be doing them some disservice if they have done shed loads of charity work) Botham got his gong for his charity work which is very different from his cricketing prowess. But as others have stated I think there is an element let us get x% women y% BAME z% this or that to make sure we are not perceived as biased towards white men and eventually the old sheckels come into it-such as gongs for paying into political parties etc.

I see David Suchet (Poirot) has been given a knighthood. Rightly so.

Much more deserved than the likes of Beckham who with a bit of luck, will never get one.

These awards became a joke years ago. I would prefer it if they still meant something and are saved for real unsung hero’s.

Its time we abolished all this old tosh, what we are living through at the moment we all need an award,no need to single a nobody like Rashford out and praise him.

I agree with Rashford’s MBE as I do believe he genuinely is a good egg who cares about the more vulnerable in society and has made a difference.

Most of the others are a load of old tosh.

Only surprise for me is that Jamie isn’t on there...

Not that I think he should be, but I did have the discussion with her indoors when watching his daily regurgitated diatribe. I learned something from him tho.... the standard contents of my cupboards ain’t the same as his....

Robert Smith of The Cure says it best on the honour system “I’m never gonna get one but I would honestly cut off my own hands before I get that because how dare they presume that they could give me an honour,I’m much better than them, they’ve never done anything....they’re f***ing idiots”

Having turned down OBEs, a CBE & Knighthood, L.S Lowry had it sussed - "There seemed little point".

A City fan (his local club) before their riches, so a true footie fan. Respect.

...but I'm comfortable with Marcus Rashford receiving his award - as I'm sure the kids who benefitted from the free meals are.

Like everything else, it has all been downgraded.
Anderson will be rewarded as he has broken wicket records - outstanding in the world. No issue.

When we won the World Cup in 1966, Bobby Moore got an OBE, for the team!

When his work is done, he will receive Russia's highest honour, for dismantling the UK and severely weakening Europe.

Mr Putin will honour him personally.

No problem with recognition, so many deserve it. There’ll never be a perfect system, but for the majority who get it....good luck to the vast majority of them.....I respect you, and just because the “system” has flaws it doesn’t degrade just why they’ve been recognised.
