January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
If we only bring in a right sided player in the mould of McNeil then I'd be happy. Brady just isn't up to it now and JBG is too injury prone. I think Wood and Vydra up front with good passes and crosses from both sides could be very fruitful. As long as we don't sell we are OK everywhere else until the summer.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
There is when they repeatedly stall any forward momentum that we have. Neither Brady nor JBG have a right foot of note to go outside a fullback and whip a cross over. Neither do they have the pace or skill to cut inside and carry the ball forward, as the likes of Grealish do cutting in from the left onto their right foot. Consequently they find themselves having to stop the forward movement to try and cross with their left foot from a deeper position or more often playing a pass back to the right full back. For me this is a key area that needs addressing.

It's ok having inverted ones if you have a system or personnel which allows for overlapping full backs. We have neither on the rhs.Raggus wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 12:47 pmThe talk of us needing a right footed right winger is rather funny, because every left winger you named there is right footed but plays off the left. And if you start naming the best right wingers where would you start? Salah? Mahrez? Silva? Bale? even Messi used to play from the right before moving Central ala Ronaldo from the left before moving Central. There is nothing wrong with having inverted wingers.

Seems like transfers at all clubs are difficult to come by this year.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55803504
No reason for it to be different for us.

Judging by the report, it's hardly an 'Excuse'.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
So not the fault of the player then, more the system or the fact that we lack a rb capable of overlapping like we have with Taylor on the left?Stevie Morgan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 1:07 pmIt's ok having inverted ones if you have a system or personnel which allows for overlapping full backs. Everyones excuse who try and fail to sign players. Every transfer window for the past 6 or 7 we just say "wait til the next window". When that comes and goes its rinse and repeat.
If anything it might be even harder in the summer and considering we have such a huge rebuilding job to do, we need to do some business this month.
No doubt we will wait til the summer for our targets and we will be miraculously surprised when other teams beat us to them

Does Sam Have a history of being able to sign players ? Say like when he has been taken on to save a club from relegation and he needs players does he have a track record of being able to do so ?DomBFC1882 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 2:52 pmI don't understand your question at all? Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
If you intend to play with instructions for wingers to cut in you also need full backs who can overlap. The idea is to take more players out of the game by drawing the full back and centre half towards you and away from the box.
And the opposite applies with inverted full backs, they need a player out wide whist they run inside.
Brady had a terrible game and looked way off the mark. It wasn't that he didn't get opportunities but when he did he fluffed them all.
He's definitely been working on his tactics and his right foot since he's been playing there but perhaps that's just something that should never have happened since we don't have enough cover there.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
It's pretty much the fault of the player if they haven't got the ability/pace to go down the line and cross with their weaker right foot into the box
You do actually see the same with McNeill when he occasionally appears on the right hand side but when Dwight does the job on the left hand side he looks so dangerous
Strikers always prefer to be attempting a header when facing towards the goal and the ball is coming to them
Far too often, when a ball is crossed from our right hand side it is from a deeper position and the striker is looking backwards and so can't generate the power in any headers
Lennon was the last guy to be able to fill that roll on the right
Brady's best times with BFC were on the left and it was a shame he was injured at Leicester, but every cloud has a silver lining as we then discovered McNeill at the start of the next season

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I can’t believe how poor Brady has been in the opposing half , he has almost a 100% delivery failure rate on crosses, long passes and free kicks at the moment. I can’t remember him ever taking it to the byline and crossing with his right foot, or beating a man with trickery or pace. He has been given a long run but it’s just not working for him.
JBG is different he has been a success before on that wing , we have scored goals from his right foot crosses. Given the same run Brady has had and I think he will come good again. I heard it reported somewhere recently that he is top of our premier league assists.
However it’s totally obvious since we lost Lennon and to an extent Hendricks that we need a McNeil equivalent on the right wing.
It’s a total embarrassment having to persevere with Brady when the gap between him and McNeil in successfully beating a man and crossing is so extreme.

Transfers at all PL clubs may be thin on the ground this month but Burnley were the only PL club to make just a single addition to their senior squad during the summer. With other clubs having beefed up their squads during the last window there is not the same level of urgency to bring players in.

Big couple of days ahead at Derby.
If tomorrow’s wages don’t get paid the club will be under another embargo and potentially get a points reduction.
Possibly might make a move for Knight in the coming days

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Tarks will be his last year of his contract. We are giving definite signs that despite all the talk of supporting SD in the market we don't have a pot to p**s in as evidenced in the laughable bid for Collins, being mugged off for Kenny and no known bids for anyone else. Leicester are said to be extremely confident of landing Tarks in the summer. They have every right to be supremely confident as by then they will have our a**e in a sling. If we don't get anyone in this window we will have to sell Tarks in the summer and will accept whatever they offer for him which will probably £10m less than we put a value on him last summer.ayrshireclaret83 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 9:06 pmRelegation didn’t decrease Nathan Ake’s valuation surely
Not only that but we will need to buy 2 CH's then as Long isn't good enough, and that will take up an awful large amount of money from the Tarks sale, given our Brentford sell on clause. Other clubs will know we want two and will be desperate, so will charge us top dollar because they know we will have some cash to buy a player or two.
To make matters even more difficult next summer we will need a new RB, a LB to replace Pieters, the 2 CH's, a RW, a replacement for Vydra. Cork is getting on a bit, Stephens not really good enough so at least another midfield player. Oh and do you remember of all the talk about the squad being short of numbers this season and the need to increase the size of it by a couple of players, well that's not happening either. Do you really think Burnley will have any cash to buy that lot that I've mentioned let alone think about actually improving the quality of our aging squad, a number of which awill also be out of contract ?
Recent comments from SD about Aston Villa spending £220m and we are still at a bag of chips is very revealing and thinly disguised. Have you thought about SD saying he was extremely comfortable with his current contract despite the statement made by Alan Pace that he would like SD to have a contract for life if he wanted it. Is it at all in the realms of possibility that SD is comfortable with his contract and in no rush to sort out a new one because he may not sign another one with us because he hasn't been supported in this window. Perhaps he will see if he is going to be supported in the summer before thinking about what he will do, but I think it will take a huge commitment from ALK to persuade him on this. Given one of our best players will be gone, who is also one of our main assets in terms of cash and given the large number of players we may need in the summer then who knows if SD can turn water into wine for the umpteenth time, Perhaps we can only take SD to the well so many times to get water. I think the club are walking a dangerous tightrope if we don't bring players in this window.

Evening,
Apologies if this has already been posted but worth - in my humblest of opinions - taking into account.
Source: BBC
"An out-of-favour winger, an out-of-contract back-up goalkeeper and a promising teenager who has never started a senior league match account for three of just four permanent signings made by Premier League clubs so far in January.
For all the noise around the mid-season transfer window, Aston Villa's signing of Morgan Sanson from Marseille on Tuesday was the first example of a top-flight club bringing in a first-team regular this month."

Derby, Sheff Wed & Wigan are trying their best, surely the Rams will have to sell in this window, now whether it's too Burnley or not is another question. But there must be bargains to be had either in this window, or more likely in the summer, our strong recent form does mean that incomings aren't as urgent this month as they may have been, so if the right players aren't available I'd rather wait until the summer window, when we will need to strengthen, mainly due to several being out of contract.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 4:53 pmWhen Covid first hit, werent we told dozens of lower league clubs would have gone bust by now ?

Question.
A figure came out a couple of years back for our total transfer spend in our history.
Could anybody give me an estimate of what that figure is now?

I have a feeling the Kenny deal will happen. It makes sense for both sides and £10m is not a huge amount for a Premier League footballer. Surely we can do a deal at £7 or 8m plus add-ons?
