This January Transfer thread would represent a decent little opening stand against India on Thursday
42 for None

How many do we really need though? 2 or 3 properly good signings would probably have us sorted out? I’d rather wait until summer if it means we can identify some better players for our team.nyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 9:48 amI’m not too concerned if we don’t make any signings today. I think we’ll have enough to stay up. However that’ll be two transfer windows just past without an addition to the first team. Some would argue that we haven’t signed a starting first teamer since 2017. They’ve left themselves with a huge task this summer.
I'm trying not to be over dramatic today, but I completely agree with you.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 9:37 amif after a takeover, and with a struggling team with injured players a constant concern, we fail to strengthen the first team squad, then its slightly pointless all round.

Right back, agreed - would have been a nice future proofing exercise but can wait till the summer. He probably wouldn’t have played much this season.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 9:37 amSo we haven't got a 4th choice centre half and a 3rd choice right back because we wouldn't pay £10 million and £9 million?
And even though we've bid for these players, we haven't got any money?
Never change lads, never change
In the gossip columns yesterday Watford & Bournemouth were wanting Vydra. Not sure I’d do a swap for King but SD might think different.SGr wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 7:54 amSouthampton looking to do a deal for Josh King in part exchange for Shane Long

In my view if the finances are there (unlikely) then swapping Vydra for King is probably worth a shot. We saw yesterday that in a game where no one performed and Vydra got no service (albeit he also lacked the physicality needed) he was first to be hauled off. He will never be fully trusted by Dyche.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 10:30 amIn the gossip columns yesterday Watford & Bournemouth were wanting Vydra. That's it in a nutshell for me. I'm more than happy not be paying stupid, inflated prices for players at this stage and walking away if people are trying to fleece us, BUT everything revolves around our best 12/13 players remaining fit (ESPECIALLY Tarks and Mee) because I THINK we do have enough about us to stay up. However only a couple of key injuries would completely scupper us I fear.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 10:39 am"If we can keep our current squad and avoid injuries we've a good chance of staying up, then rebuilding in summer."
The 'fingers crossed' policy as espoused by the previous board
But it always isit’s not really a gamble is it?
Yep - Long at centre half is the new Arfield in Central midfield.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 10:58 amThat's it in a nutshell for me. That's all well and good, but the same was said last January and look what happened, covid struck.
I would envisage we would have a relatively active January and next summer window.
And yet over 220 permanent and loan signings made by Football League clubs already this window despite is being told many of them would have been out of business by nowGranny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:33 amThe January window is normally a really difficult time to sign players, so this window given everything that is going on makes it almost impossible.
The arrogance and ignorance by some people on this thread is startling.

More chance of signing a queenKRBFC wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 10:50 amKing would be excellent here, would slot straight in to partner Wood upfront and give us pace movement and the ability to carry the ball through the middle of the pitch. I remember him playing for Basturds, he had Trippier on toast and theres not many times Iv seen that.
Make it 235 and counting by Premier League and Football League clubs then
Apple and Pears. They wont be getting quoted £10m for a 3rd (at best) choice right back.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 1:19 pmMake it 235 and counting by Premier League and Football League clubs then
I made the comment “make a statement” and what I mean by that is unlike Wells King is a proven PL player, and Kenny is a long term target (I would be amazed if Wells was). I assume Kenny is thought of having the potential of Tarks when we signed him, so again unlike Wells, meeting the asking price would not seem to be a bad move if in 3 years time he is worth double that price.steve1264b wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 10:58 amI love comments like "make a statement" and the suggestion we should over pay by a couple of million is a joke surely?
Anyone who watched the chairman of sunderland splash out millions on Grigg despite the manager and friends telling him not to do it because he felt pressured to make a statement and keep the fans happy.
If we dont sign someone i will be bitterly disappointed but not as disapointed as i was when we signed Wells. I said at the time we might as well set fire to the money in the centre circle.
235 transfers does not tally with " almost impossible "Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 1:24 pmApple and Pears. They wont be getting quoted £10m for a 3rd (at best) choice right back.
Yes on the 1st of January
Why would i be referring to lower leagues, pretty clear its a different ball game in the EPL, and how many of those lower league transfers involved a fee. Its a completely irrelevant comparison.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 1:46 pm235 transfers does not tally with " almost impossible "

Its a rich premier league club trying to take advantage. We are completely right to tell teams to get stuffed and be patient. When you think of our transfer budget spending £10m on someone like Kenny would be a joke.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 1:51 pm"They won't be getting quoted £10m for a 3rd (at best) choice right back"
So, what price do you expect will be quoted to us in the summer when players will be so much cheaper (allegedly) as we carry out our squad overhaul?
As I can recall players were still way out of our financial reach during the last summer window.
Mind you, with Tarks and Dwight expected to move on transfers will probably be financed from players sales rather than by the new owners.
Appreciating that we won’t be awash with available funds for players, I’d hoped, particularly with the current climate, that there would be a good few opportunities to take advantage of clubs in a far worse position.Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 2:11 pmIts a rich premier league club trying to take advantage. Exactly, shop in a different market, but still hard work given current conditions eg - teams don't want to let teams go because of Covid and the schedule, can even scout players in this country, dyche's ultra specific requirements etc etc
Would it? What do you expect to pay for a starting right back in the summer when Bardsley has gone and teams know we need a right back?Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 2:11 pmIts a rich premier league club trying to take advantage.
