Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Fulham's next two games are against Sheffield United and Palace, and they seem to be playing with belief.
Toon are away at Man U and home to Wolves next, their form/confidence seems to be in the khazi and Wilson is a big loss to them.
Yes, Fulham have some tough games after the next two, but if they get points on the board, looks like Toon could be in danger.

I'd be happy to see them go down in place of Fulham, would be plenty of laughs to get out of it.

Newcastle in trouble? Only last week we had a thread on here suggesting they were safe, as were Brighton and Palace, and it was three from four to go down with us and the bottom three.

There are differing viewpoints on this forum. Sometimes it needs pointing out!

Newcastle are only two points below us and have more points from the last five games than us. Still a long way to go with plenty of twists and turns. I personally think the bottom three as they are will go, but we'll see.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
I’d much prefer Fulham to go down and with Newcastle not picking up much form either. That would mean a couple more wins would keep us up.
Fulham picking up form and points puts our place in jeopardy as we are so close to Newcastle right now. I’d prefer to stay 3-4 games clear of them if possible.
So for me a Sheffield United win on Saturday would be welcome. This is their last shot as they need at least 6 wins from their 14 remaining, plus some draws. This is one of those 6 must win games.
I would bet when the fixtures came out for Sheffield a United, their fans would have looked at their ‘easy’ run in of Palace, Everton, Newcastle and Burnley and taken comfort from it.

So from the comments on this thread am I to assume that the same poster made the remarks about Newcastle being safe one week, and then said they are in real trouble the week after?
Or perhaps, it might have come from two different posters who have different opinions on the situation. Could that explain the differing viewpoints, do we think?

Newcastle are very much like us. They do lose a fair few and can be hit and miss, but always seem to find a win or two when it's most needed to keep their heads above water. I'd be surprised if they don't pull away from Fulham.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Based on the games between us and Newcastle and us and Fulham then Newcastle are way above Fulham.
Fulham are the poorest side in the division for me. We should have put 4 against them last night. They have a weak defence whereas Newcastle can go defensive in games when needed.

If Fulham are the weakest side in the division it's very odd that so many team struggle to beat them. In their last 15 gams they have only lost to the top 4 clubs in the PL.

I can’t see Fulham winning 4-5 games over the rest of the season. For how good they look at times they really struggle in the final third.

This is down to a mixture of poor signings and management, football injuries and Covid.

Newcastle are in trouble because they are ****. Fulham are in trouble because they are even more **** and can’t score despite being an attacking team. Burnley would be alright I feel even if we had lost vs Liverpool and villa. If we get relegated from here with the standard of opposition below us we well and truly deserve it.

WBA are the weakest team, look at their GD, they have been stuffed several times. Sheff Utd lose tight games by the odd goal.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Much is made of Newcastle’s situation but it has to be remembered that they have won 2 from last 4. Fulham’s 1 win in 9 is relegation form. They have been picking up points but draws are no use to them. Personally I have nothing against either team so whoever goes down is of no real concern to me but I still believe the relegation places are already booked. Newcastle have 2 tough looking fixtures to come but Wolves are unpredictable this season and even United can come unstuck at times. Fulham have two relatively easy looking fixtures but they can’t seem to win, apart from at Everton who just didn’t turn up on the night.

Newcastle have spent millions on dross
Buying strikers Wilson apart who have not scored regularly. They have a poor defence and look like a team of strangers
The recruitment of locals proud to wear the shirt has been abandoned as Bruce does what he always does and is very free with his chairman's money.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
No question about it Newcastle are struggling but they are still a better side than Fulham and can't be any worse than the Palace side we beat at the weekend, who looked like they had literally thrown in the towel.
We were well under par ourselves last night, no right side due to injuries. McNeil was poor and so was Charlie Taylor who wasn't match fit

Newcastle next 5
Man Utd (a)
Wolves (h)
West Brom (a)
Villa (h)
Brighton (a)
Fulham next 5
Sheff Utd (h)
Palace (a)
Liverpool (a)
Man City (a)
Leeds (h)
Move forward 5 games and the picture will be a lot clearer after these games but think it will be one of these 2 which sadly means Brighton will be safe

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Ashley isn't the football expert, apparently that's Bruce and the scouting network.
I don't get why you're purposely being daft over this.
Bruce got funds to improve the team, it's him and his back room team that have to identify the right players and get them to play to their full potential.
Ashley is simply there to get his money out..

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Yeah he gave us Drinkwater, we all know how that worked out.
Dyche was battered for failing to get the best out of him on here
Ashley isn't there to pick transfers, he's got a manager who he's backed.
I'll say it again, this isn't Ashley's fault and I think your opinion is wrong.
Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
A chairman employs people to go out and find players alongside the manager and will give them a budget to do that. I doubt a chairman like Mike Ashley can say much about a players quality but only trust those he employs. I doubt if there’s more Ashley can do in that situation.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Just had a look at the fixtures for Palace down (apart from Sheff U and WBA who, quite frankly, probably need at least 1.5. points per game from here on in to have a chance of survival.......very unlikely to do that).
I reckon it could come down to the final game Fulham v Newcastle with Fulham needing a win to survive.
I reckon the bottom half dozen will be (with Newcastle going down on goal difference:
Brighton 38 pts
Palace 38
Burnley 37
Fulham 35
Newcastle 35
WBA fewer than 30
Sheff U fewer than 30

From what I've seen Newcastle are the 2nd worse side in the league.

It’s still Sheffield United, West Brom, Fulham or Burnley who’ll drop for me.
Newcastle will have enough about them to survive, as would we, I hope.

Without Callum Wilson it's hard to see where Newcastle's goals are coming from. I wouldn't be surprised to see Fulham finish above them now.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Newcastle have a tough set of fixtures. Their 'easy' games are almost all away - and I know there's more away wins this season, but still - and their last two are against Sheff U and Fulham (and, by then, they could be desperately needing points and playing under massive pressure.
I'm really hoping it's a winner takes all game on the last day when Fulham play them (as much because it means we're safe by then!)

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Good question and the answer is because Fulham have picked up notably, Brighton's recent form is good, only 1 defeat in 8 (and that was at Man City) 3 wins and 4 draws during that period to boot, however Fulham have also found their form only 1 defeat in 7 (and that was at home to Leicester) who are awesome on the road, 2 wins and 4 draws during that period, but the difference in their last 3 games is they've turned those draws into wins, and collected 7/9 points, and that's suddenly lifted them right onto the coattails of many teams including Brighton.
