Whatever Happened to Owen Coyle?
Whatever Happened to Owen Coyle?
I know a lot of us have been worrying about that, and the answer is he has been managing in the Indian Super League. Last season he managed the Chennai team that finished fourth out of ten, and then proceeded to the Championship Playoff Final, which they lost to one of the Kolkata teams.
He then left Chennai, and this season is managing Jamshedpur, a city I'd never heard of which is located in southern Bihar, one of the poorest regions of India. This might be seen as a step down, but Jamshedpur is a centre for Tata industries who sponsor the club. It seems he might have left Chennai to follow the money. Would he do that?

He's kept himself in work, how where and when shouldn't really bother anyone by now, he's still got to earn money at the end of the day.

He just slipped out the back, got a new plan, hopped on the bus and dropped off the key.
In summary Owen Coyle got himself free

Hopefully he'll end up back down Bolton Road when Mowbray gets the bullet.
Preferably with Steve Kean as assistant.

He could be selling his a*se outside the public bogs in Bangalore, with a nasty infection of galloping knob-rot for all I care.
Re: Whatever Happened to Owen Coyle?
He must have blown a fortune if he still has to earn money. Most PL managers have earned enough for the rest of their lives - if they're still managing at 54, the chances are it's because they like the job.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 1:37 pmHe's kept himself in work, how where and when shouldn't really bother anyone by now, he's still got to earn money at the end of the day.

Like him or loath him Burnley probably wouldn't be where they are without him.
We also may not have such a lovely pitch without Brian Laws either...OK that's pushing it

I know, for good reasons he is persona non gratis with Burnley fans. However is was not that long ago he was a pundit in this country and was always exceptionally positive about our club, how it was run, and how we played ( I am not a fan by the way)

Unfortunately much as fans detest him, when I look back 50 years (and I have followed Burnley for almost 60 years), the Own era was for me was an exciting period and truly memorable. Not only by the way we played, the number of quality players we had, and our achievements in the league and in Cups

That run to Wembley and our victory courtesy of Wade's super strike was an experience I will never forget and for that I thank Owen

He’ll be our ‘new’ gaffer next season.

Some people really need to grow up. He left us for more money and a better paid job.....ELEVEN YEARS AGO. If people haven’t moved on or got over it by now it says a lot more about them than Coyle.

Re: Whatever Happened to Owen Coyle?
Yep really, he was clapped in, he even posed for photos at the end and there was quite a queue.
Some people get over their jilted ex lover hurt and bad feelings, it's been over a decade now.
Imagine still being that angry or wound up over what really is nothing.
Whatever he said or did, we are in he left us in a better place than when he came, and was a major part of where we are today.
As I said on the night, Thanks Owen you made my childhood dreams come true, and gave me one if the best seasons watching Burnley.
All the best for your future

Re: Whatever Happened to Owen Coyle?
I think he will be pretty happy.
Getting well paid to manage in an amazing part of the world with great weather and people.
Obviously the premier league is the pinnacle. But there is also a hell of a lot of pressure and sacrifices.
I reckon he will have a pretty good life out there. And all while being able to walk down the street.
As for his time here. Was angry at the time. But soon got over it. First when we beat them a few times after they came down and then when Dyche came in and pushed the club on even further.
Gave us a great foundation and even better memories.
Better to have loved and lost...

I vented my anger at the end of that horrendous 1-0 defeat at the Reebok when he came over to clap us.
And then I went home, and that was that.
In 30 years of watching us, the football under Coyle was the best I have ever seen. So for that, I thank him.

Re: Whatever Happened to Owen Coyle?
That 2008-2009 season was absolutely magical. From the despair of the cup semi final defeat to the play-off triumph at Wembley, it had the lot.
What a season, and I for one certainly thought that Mr Coyle was God at that moment in time.

And, had he left at the end of that season, he could have left with his head held high.
His deceit left a very sour taste, BUT, THANK YOU Owen Coyle.
Our team has grown since you left whilst your stock has gone down and down and down.
Schadenfreude. A term that we should incorporate into the English language
Re: Whatever Happened to Owen Coyle?
Some great memories of the attacking football we played but tempered by him holding us to ransom and playing us of against Celtic, even when Campbell interviewed him at the town hall he was non committal to us, to quote the song he left us just as we needed him most. F him and his career, he is a nobody managing nobodies in a nothing league. Bstards, us Bolton, and Wigan all hate him, the phrase Houston we have a problem summed up his escapades there as well.
