Preferred Bardsley over Lowton for a while. But you can't argue with Lowton's form.

Not the clubs fault if his missus decides to jump the gun on social media.... A bit like Defour wife posting pics of him having his photos taken on the pitch prior to any announcement..... Take the phone off the wife if you want to keep secrets

I love Bardsley and I’m absolutely made up he signed an extension and will be here for while longer.

Hopefully it means we're going to push the boat out for a centre back and a right midfielder this summer. If we're keeping him on because it's the cheaper, easier option then it's slightly worrying.

Good news Phil has been excellent, I do feel that he'd make a good coach perhaps a player coach role as his next step as he has a wealth of top flight experience to offer.

Lowton’s form this season means that this isn’t a priority position and if it allows us to strengthen more significantly in other areas then it’s a good move.

Re: Bardsley
I think you are spot on. The revelation in his form has lead the club to accept there is no point in signing a decent RB, and Bards for Cup, and injury/loss of form cover, is the cheapest option
One thing about our Club-its all down to the cheapest option

The alternative to ageing is not a good process!
A decent quality player is still a decent player even if they are older. Don't be fooled by the age thing - when they aren't able to keep up with the workrate and physicality demands of SD or the Premier League they would be out of the door pretty sharpish.

We are fortunate to have the quality of Bards and Pieters as cover for full backs.

But when most of your squad is the wrong side of 30 it becomes a problem. Look at the amount of injuries we're starting to pick up.bfcmik wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 5:15 pmThe alternative to ageing is not a good process!

Some have suggested Bardsley at RB and Lowton at RMF - I would give that a try if we are struggling at RMF....

Nothing against Bardsley, who has done a reasonable job for us.
But it doesn't send out any signals of hope that the new owners are putting any money into the first team, anytime soon.

Re: Bardsley
Leicester have picked up loads of injuries, as we were repeatedly informed by Sky commentators on Wednesday evening, and they were almost all younger players. Most PL teams have struggled with injuries this season.
Many of our problems have stemmed from the small 1st team squad size meaning we cannot let players have a decent rest and have to bring them back into the side almost as soon as they are fit.

Wonder if the extension might incorporate Bardsley looking to go into coaching. Never looks out of place at this level when called upon to play.

Re: Bardsley
I have the same concerns, and as I have posted before, getting the 4 players to renew contracts a day or two before the last window closed , was designed to deflect away from our recent failures in attracting players to BFC. Having said that it should avoid the fiasco we saw last May/June. It also works for these players -for example I could not see Cork, JBG, Pieters, Bardsley getting a move to another PL clubQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 5:26 pmNothing against Bardsley, who has done a reasonable job for us.

I’m pretty certain all we are going to see this summer is Tarks, Gibson and potentially McNeil sold. We will then try sign some players with the funds raised.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 5:26 pmNothing against Bardsley, who has done a reasonable job for us.

think it’s quite clear from comments over the past month or so that the new owners haven’t got any serious money to invest
Re: Bardsley
I wouldn’t be putting that down to ages. Leicester City's to most creative players were out the other night. Every team’s in the same boat at the minute.

easily has another season left in him at this level so good news, if that enables us to spend a bit more on a right winger then great

He is a good pro and he has done ok when called upon.No arguments from me on him staying on.
Re: Bardsley
That’s actually a very good point Vegas. He can do a job for the next year, allows us to spend a bit more maybe on a right winger this summer and then reassess the situation next summer.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 5:43 pmeasily has another season left in him at this level so good news, if that enables us to spend a bit more on a right winger then great
The thing that frustrates the most about football is everyones obsession with ages. If we got a player at 18 in, less ability than Bardsley everyone would be buzzing. Why? Potential is fine if it pays off, but right now we need players good enough for the Premier League and Bardsley as a back up to Lowton (in current form) is perfectly acceptable.

For us, it is always easier to keep the good players we have than to sign new players who can make an equal contribution.

Great news, easily has another season in him. I too would like to hear he is taking his badges some time next season. Been great for us and is a top pro with lots to offer when/if he moves into coaching, would like it to be with us.
Think him and Lawton give us top cover at right back, hopefully we can address other areas now.
