Re: ARTICLE: Late change sends under-23s to The Hawthorns

Re: ARTICLE: Late change sends under-23s to The Hawthorns
So poor with communication - Harker back on the bench and we are told he's returning from a long term injury, the first time that injury has been mentioned. Cropper was recalled from Chesterfield in January but this is the first time he's played.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 12:52 pmWas wondering what had happened to Cropper and Harker

Re: ARTICLE: Late change sends under-23s to The Hawthorns
Two under-23 players left in January last year and there was no mention of them leaving. We have players out long term and it isn't deemed worthy of mention. I just don't understand it.

We never get straight answers on first team injuries so I'm not sure why you think we'd get better info about u23 players.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 2:17 pmTwo under-23 players left in January last year and there was no mention of them leaving. Just a few words on the site
https://www.uptheclarets.com/experience ... -under-23s
Amazingly, for the second week running we've had a player sent off with the club making absolutely no mention of it.

Re: ARTICLE: Late change sends under-23s to The Hawthorns
Apologies to our reporter and more so to Jimmy Dunne. Both the Premier League and West Brom have reported the red card but I've had it from very good authority that he was NOT sent off.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Mar 08, 2021 3:14 pmJust a few words on the site

(Edit... what they said^^^) The WBA website mentions that it was Nartey sent off? “ Richard Nartey was given his marching orders.”

Didn't mention it initially. Premier League said Dunne had been sent off but I was told that he wasn't. Didn't think someone else had been.
Re: ARTICLE: Late change sends under-23s to The Hawthorns
Not really, they had very strong team playing.

As I reported, over 950 league games from four of them in that West Brom team.

Are our u23’s coached to ‘mirror’ the 4-4-2 formation and the relatively rigid framework of the first team?
Which would make sense when players are asked to step up to join the first team squad but might ‘suppress’ their natural creative/instinctive development.
No hidden agenda, I’m just interested in how the u23’s are coached.

Has he even been on the bench at Bolton yet?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 2:45 pmHe's on loan at Bolton until the end of the season - we are able to play him in these games but only if he's not required by Bolton.

Re: ARTICLE: Late change sends under-23s to The Hawthorns
Just how long would he need to settle in?? Also, not sure just what the reasoning would be in letting him go there but then not even be on the bench, never mind actually play!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 3:23 pmManager there says he's letting him settle in before he plays him but has been very impressed with him. But he doesn't even put him on the bench.

Re: ARTICLE: Late change sends under-23s to The Hawthorns
I don't get it, I could half understand the comment if he was on the bench but I don't think he's been on once. I'm sure that's why we took the opportunity to bring him back in for yesterday's game.

Re: ARTICLE: Late change sends under-23s to The Hawthorns
I believe their regular keeper is Gilks, so tbf he's loads of experience and no slouch and they are pressing for a play off place, so suddenly picking an inexperienced goalkeeper at that level would be a huge risk. Not even having him on the bench is weird though and I did notice that myself the other week.

Re: ARTICLE: Late change sends under-23s to The Hawthorns
Evatt said a couple of weeks ago; “Lukas is an exceptional young goalkeeper and he’s a big, big boy. I don’t know if people have seen him but he’s a specimen and he is very agile. I have been impressed with him in training as well. The thinking behind this is that I want to give him time to settle down with the lads, get him used to the environment. When results were not going as well it was a big ask for a young keeper to step in. Matt has mountains of experience."
Re: ARTICLE: Late change sends under-23s to The Hawthorns
But if that was the case, why would they bother taking him on loan?djemba-djemba wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 5:14 pmPerhaps it’s kinder to say that rather than he’s not up to it yet.

Yes, I can fully understand that but he's not even getting on the bench, in fact they haven't even been putting any keeper on the bench!boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 6:28 pmThey are in with a chance of the play-offs, perhaps changing keepers is a risk their manager is not prepared to take.

Well that is odd.
You watch the Under 23s, would you say that Jensen looks the best equipped of our young goalkeepers to progress (OK, I know we don't get to see a lot of their games)? I certainly would on what I've seen.

Not seen him at all this season but what I will say about him was I saw him give a goal away at Leeds last season and I can't recall one other error from him that led to a goal.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 8:39 pmWell that is odd.
