Breaking on Talksport too.

To do with control of transfers so that rules out Dyche going there :D

That would be scandalous, unless he has lost it and blown his top at the owners.

He remained .much loved by the fans and least likely to be sacked, about a month ago!

Running out of clubs where the manager has any form of control.

A reporter on Talksport is suggesting Wilder felt like he hadn't been backed in the last few transfer windows...

Pretty sure they've spent a fair amount of money last summer.

Classic case, unfortunately, of nice football (for lesser clubs) = relegation = dismissal.

Next up please. SHOCKING !!!!!!

They took our 2018 window and raised it.

First XI is essentially unchanged, young “talent” that hasn’t paid off, but still managed to splash a fair bit in the process.

Brewster - £22 million, 22 appearances in all comps, no goals.

They were robbed blind over that signing, didn't we refuse to cough up that much for him?
Or was it a diff lad from Liverpool?

The job he's done there is undeniable but he's been spouting off quite a bit about the lack of support he's had in the market, despite the fact as pointed out above, he's been supported pretty well.

McBurnie, Berge, Ramsdale all up around the £20m mark as well in the last year or two.I bet SD wishes he hadnt been backed to that extent...

It was Harry Wilson we were linked with. From what I hear he was a Garlick choice not a Dyche choice but after one year in the Premier League Sheffield United's recruitment needed to be more of the same, established players who would build on what they'd done, not a young lad with limited experience for a huge amount. Brewster might come good but Liverpool are getting very good at getting big money for players who aren't really good enough as they did with Ibe and Solanke to Bournemouth.

Overall, Sheff U have spent big money on a number of players. Who it was that wanted to bring those players in I don't know.

I quite agree even in this day and age a ridiculous fee. Robbed blind though, I doubt anyone forced them to pay it at gunpoint.

Pretty pointless exercise I would have retained Wilder can they not just throw the towel in and plan for next season, big mistake potting Wilder should have followed our lead when we went down and kept Dyche.

Personally its a real shame. I liked the guy and what he achieved, and for me having Potter, Dean Smith, Chris Wider ,Moyes and our own Sean in the PL was a fantastic situation. The PL is now managed at club level by so many foreign coaches where the cheque book is mandatory. Look at what Everton have spent, its colossal and for me they are a mid table team. Would like to see the likes of Klopp, Guardiola, the new Chelsea manager, Solskjaer try to keep Burnley in the PL dfor 5 years on the budget we have, then see how good they are

I think this is a shame too. He has done an excellent job at Sheff Utd.

He was the man to take them back to the Premier League next season - they'll be a host of Championship clubs looking at bringing him in now.

Wilder is building a huge house just round the corner from me, it isn’t finished yet and has been on the go for 2 years.

Just goes to show - they get a huge wedge of cash as a PL manager, but his next job may be, say, the south coast if Southampton potted their manager. Not many jobs in commuting distance at this level so people like Wilder are forced into tough decisions. Good luck to him - he has done well and deserves some luck.

Just read this on twitter, staggering....makes you sort of glad we dont do knee jerk signings.
CW signed Rodwell Jan 2020, played him 75 minutes over 2 games, then gave him a year contract, hasn't played him since. Still there. Reportedly earning more than Sharp, O'Connell, Burke, Basham, Fleck, Egan, Baldock, Stevens and Lundstrom.

Don't think he will have done himself any favours recently talking about them playing in the championship, I can't remember his exact wording, think it was on MOTD, I thought at the time the directors could interpret that as throwing the towel in.

A number of clubs in Yorkshire and the Midlands who are desperate for someone to do what he did at Bramhall Lane.

One even in the same city but I doubt that would happen.

His press interviews in the last few months have been really damaging - not unlike Sean in the last year or so, Sean had more stock in the bank and our owner was more circumspect in what was his priority - he believed in the manager.

Wilder may have been distracted by his owners preference to build a multi-club operation (United World) which has added two clubs in the last year including one in the last few weeks. The club's spending has obviously not been to his liking and he has openly talked of wanting a number of players away from the club - which Dyche would never do.

There is obvious talent in Wilder but he needs to work on the man-management of his game which includes managing upwards

Been paid consistently well for it though. Had Sunderlands trousers down for years and seemingly now doing the same at Sheff U.

Thought they might give him chance to bring them back up from the Championship considering how he has taken them from League one to Premier League. He always seemed to be very honest whenever I have heard any of his interviews. Yes, their transfer dealings over the last 12months or so have been dodgy to say the least but were they players he wanted or were they thrust upon him?

When those 2 first broke through into 1st team football never once did I feel that Rodwell had similar talents to Rooney.

Sometimes the media build up young lads because they have had a couple of good performances. In my opinion this was never more true than with Rodwell.

In the real world this to me seemed bound to happen and I can't blame the United board.

From a team that did so well last season to a team that is by far the worst in the division (based on points gained) has to be down to the manager. The board would be right to ask 'what has gone wrong?' Whatever it is Wilder cannot put it right. If United had been hovering in the relegation positions that would be understandable but their position is awful. If Burnley had done as badly as that do you think we would be giving Dyche some slack. I doubt it.

I know some players (e.g. Lundstrum, perhaps others) may now think they've made it as Premier League players and perhaps don't have to work as hard but that is down to the manager.

It may be a shame but it's tough at the top.

Good question that... and my answer is yes. Kevin Long has shown no desire to leave but has always been available and tried his best to cover whenever called upon, so a loyal old school pro.... Rodwell has been happy to draw his pay packet looking in from outside, touch of the Drinkwater about him, showed what he could do and has been happy to sit it out until he needs to refresh memories for a couple of weeks as new contracts need sorting. A waste of a squad place and robbing the millions who would bust a gut for the club.

I know money has not been spent wisely in the past 6-9 months, as they went on a big spending spree. A bit surprising in hind sight, as they took the PL by storm as a newly promoted team, and achieved this with a series of cheap journey men. They took a lot of scalps last season

It goes to show that Hendrick for example was not such a bad buy, and if we get £8m for Gibson at the end of this season from Norwich, that our damage will be limited. It makes many of our other purchases look sound investments

A reporter on Talksport is suggesting Wilder felt like he hadn't been backed in the last few transfer windows...

Pretty sure they've spent a fair amount of money last summer.
That doesn't mean he's been backed though, does it?
It all comes down to, did he want those players bringing in?

Genuine question Sid, in your opinion has Rodwell wasted his career more than Kevin Long has?
Rodwell clearly had the ability that led to Man City signing him for £12 million with addons when he was 21.
Sunderland coughed up £10 million and a rumoured £70k a week with no relegation clauses...

I remember him at Everton and he looked very good, just unlucky with injuries at City.

Long has never looked like he'd ever replace our first choice CB's, which is why he's content to be in our squad picking up wages, playing occasionally.

I'd say they've wasted their careers in different ways if that makes sense.
Long - content to be our eternal 4th choice, hence why he's currently our longest serving squad member I think, he could've easily been first choice in the championship or lower.

Rodwell - wasted it by failing at Sunderland and seemingly being content to pick up his wages there, even when the club was in real trouble financially and even at Sheff Utd he's content sat doing nothing.

The only reason I'd forgotten about Rodwell is because unlike Ravel Morrison, he rarely ensures the focus is on him.

There's a good player there in Rodwell, a lot of us have seen it when he was at Everton, but he isn't fussed about showing it, or maybe he can't...
I wouldn't want us to touch him with a bargepole though.

Insanity. Would have him at Burnley in a heartbeat if Dyche left.
