Brilliant comedy Juan. 8-)

Apart from the bit in one episode where Basil was taking the michael out of some white German people.

I thought that was very offensive.

I'll give you until this time tomorrow to work it out.

Try and think why you're on this thread and why you think the scene of Basil goose stepping and giving it the Hitler tash is funny to you.

If you're still struggling by then, I'll give you a hand.

I tend to find mocking Hitler and the nazis funny. If done well, of course. What's ironic about that?

He always takes peoples points to the extreme, as with the ‘p@ki’ one a few posts up. It is a tactic he uses to belittle people who display different views than him.

He does, he distorts what you post to align with his way of thinking to justify why your behaviour is wrong, you would only need to post that you are taking the dog for a walk around the block & back & a essay stating about 10 different reasons why this was publicly & psychologically unacceptable would be offered.
Just two well 'ard stoics confiding in other like minded folk, away from the verbose shouty man. Does feeling belittled by...erm, some arguments...not undermine the whole 'everyone's too sensitive these days' routine? Is it the abrasiveness? Was I abrasive? Am I being abrasive? I think I might have been abrasive. I'll maybe soften my ranting a bit for the benefit of the more gentle among you. I wouldn't want to...offend anyone. Or you could just clap back at me directly if you like, you're more than welcome.

The clue is in the word "illegal". Nothing to do with anyone (other than the lawmaker's) definition of racism.
Is it illegal to take the p!ss though? If it is I don’t think it should be. Whatever happened to sticks and stones.

Off you go again belittling posters who challenge your approach. “Well ‘ard”. What’s that implying? Just to reinforce my earlier point, again you take it to the extreme. You can’t stop yourself can you? In between the academic debates and arguments you claim to be participating in you cannot resist spouting your hatred towards people who do not agree with you. You keep letting yourself down, however it is probably hard to re read your rants in the early hours of the morning when you are under the influence and your ego feels even bigger.

I’m not sure if that post is responding to the observations not limited to this thread only, when you’ve got 1 person saying the same thing it could be doubtful 2 to 3 maybe something in it, you seem to be opposed to listening in a non literal sense so you just crack on with alienating other sensible posters.

There are two issues with the mocking of the government minister with the flag.

1. It's unprofessional and partisan, and also unfair, to invite someone onto the show and then mock them after they have gone. Why not ask about the flag when he has time to answer?

2. It's partisan because I can't imagine either of these presenters sneering at Sturgeon when she (as she often does) appears with a flag behind her, or for that matter at Obama or Biden when they appear with a flag behind them. It is not the practice of flag waving that they object to; it is specifically the practice of flag-waving by a UK government minister.

I dare say the BBC is supposed to be neutral, but if they must show bias re. the United Kingdom nation, surely they should be for it rather than against it?

It’s not the flag.

It’s the sudden appearance of multiple flags as a backdrop to any government politician. They’ve never used them before so blatantly, yet now they do, along with the ‘World beating’ this and that.

It just comes across as false and contrived.

When the flag becomes a prop for cynical populist politicians to create division & to impress a nationalist xenophobic fan base, it is tainted by association.

The union flag was used by a number of nasty right wing extremist groups. For the tories to start draping it everywhere reminds me of the National Front... And also is reminiscent of the Third Reich rallies. It leaves a bad taste

When there's nothing else to be proud of, you start waving the flag and spouting meaningless slogans.

I like the desperate ones who look like they've just grabbed some old bunting from the loft but want us to believe that they always have a string of Union jacks across the room.

I spend a lot of time in the US and all the flag stuff over there just strikes me as insecurity where they're trying to make up for their lack of history by worshipping a flag.

The degree to which the use of the flag/Queen combo has been so blatantly stage managed by these morons as a reactionary pushback to the conversation about Britain's colonial past actually debases both the flag and the monarchy, which both ought to be above being used as mere props. But of course, the loonies supporting their use as props care for neither, beyond their symbolic and semiotic utility in being a shorthand for advancing politics far too $hit to be convincingly expressed in words.

Flags (one or two at most) in an official residence - no issue whatsoever

Flags in peoples living rooms, studies or the bog - clearly designed to impress those who have reacted as expected on this thread

Its all a bit desperate with all the issues we've got going on

It's not that they don't have a history. They just don't like to talk about it that much having done their best to exterminate it.

It’s possible that’s a trio with the TVC poster that doesn’t seem to post anymore, a few were systematically rounded up for talking nonsense & disappeared & a few seemed to reappear with different usernames.
