Season Ticket Question

Post by JR1882 » Mon Mar 22, 2021 7:25 am

Am I right in thinking that March is the final payment for those of us who carried on paying by DD? Or is it April?

Many Thanks!

The club announced this in October. You can find details on the club website in either the Ticketing or News sections.

I have read it but it doesn’t say anything about what is happening April onwards, can we assume their will be no Direct Debit deduction in April and payments for 22/23 Season Ticket will restart April 2022 if the club do continue with that option?

There will be no DD payments taken after April for 12 months and nothing more to pay for season 21/22.

Thanks for that I just hope the club restart the Direct Debit option next April and don’t abandon that option

The DD option or some kind of instalment payment option are under consideration by the club. On behalf of the Burnley FC Supporters Group I have been in contact with the club to state how vital it is for fans to have a DD option. Hopefully common sense will prevail.

You would like to think common sense would prevail, however, if they do decide to abandon the DD option, I hope that they announce it before the 2021/22 season starts.
That way people have the opportunity to start saving towards it, maybe by using the payments that they were making for this years ticket that are being stopped for next years

Agree. This is the latest info that I've had from the club -

The Club recognises the need to update supporters on what needs to be done to renew season ticket / seats and to be clear for those wishing to take a refund how to do so. We are just finalising the set up of the options a supporter can take with clear instructions and deadlines. We want supporters to be able to make their decision fully informed and ‘simply’ once this info is released.

I’d advise all supporters they ensure they can access their online accounts by looking at the website articles on official website or contact the ticket office (01282 446800 option 2 or 3) about account access so they can take action quickly if they want too once we release the info.

I doubt very much that the direct debit option will be scrapped considering how popular it seems to be. I can understand why the club haven't made a commitment to something that is more than 12 months away though.

But it's only 12 months away for existing ST holders. For those who want to purchase a ST for the 21/22 season (people who don't have a ST at present), it's an imminent issue, as normally the 1st DD payment would be next month.

Ah gotcha. I’d expect details for new season tickets to be announced in the next few weeks. It’s around this time most seasons isn’t it?

ST prices and Early Bird deadline are usually announced well before now but obviously this is not a normal situation.

It’s usually sooner as the “early bird” deadline is generally the end of March

Well done Leisure and the BFC Supporters group for putting this forward, the option of paying by DD really is helpful to a lot of supporters, let's hope they will allow it to continue.

The club did state in October (?) that there was no guarantee that there would be a DD option for the coming season for new purchases. But even if there is going to be a DD option, with the details for next year's season tickets still not having been released, it's very doubtful that arrangements could now be put in place for a first DD payment to be taken in April. Hopefully the club will release details soon on what the purchase options are going to be and if there is going to be an Early Bird period.

I don't believe that the club is even seriously considering not having a direct debit option available.

It is my view that the club mentioned this possibility in a recent article on their website in a bid to encourage current season ticket holders to keep paying their instalments and to discourage current season ticket holders who have paid up front from claiming a refund. Both scenarios keeps money within the club.

The club have also added into the mix that current prices cannot be guaranteed, just in case anyone was still unsure about whether to continue with monthly instalments or claim a refund. That comment from the club would surely (again, in my view) have been successful in persuading a few more current season ticket holders to continue with monthly instalments or not claim a refund.

For what valid reason would the club not continue to have a direct debit option available?

Even if interest free instalments were not available, and some kind of 'pay over time' scheme with interest added on was reintroduced by the club, this would still be by direct debit. The club have even acknowledged themselves that direct debit is the most popular option for season ticket holders. If that is the case, why would the powers that be at the club be seriously considering removing that option.

In my view this is scaremongering by the club, which is disgusting behaviour in these uncertain and anxious times. There's already enough uncertainty and anxiety going on in people's lives, why have the club chosen to add to it?

I tweeted the club yesterday morning and waited all day for a reply. Despite putting out various tweets during the day they only responded when I retweeted and added Alan Pace. Unfortunately there does seem to be form for this when they don't want to answer questions.

Below is their response:-

Surely you can all wait patiently for a few weeks before details are announced about next season, which doesn’t commence for 5 months. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but there is quite a lot of uncertainty around generally at the moment.

I feel that I have waited patiently and wanted confirmation that my DD wouldn't be coming out again next month. Unfortunately they wouldn't answer that

I’ve got to admit, I too am under the impression that the DD would stop, however re-reading the release from the club it doesn’t specifically say that they will be stopped, just that nothing extra to pay for the 2021/2022 season.
In summary, any monies paid for your 2020/2021 season ticket (or if you continue to complete your direct debit payments) will be held on your account and will automatically guarantee your seat for the 2021/2022 season with nothing extra to pay.
I know it seems obvious that they will/should stop but we all know that unless things are confirmed people will always have those concerns

With all due respect Pete, it's OK for anybody to make that statement but until the club say it, it means nothing.
Communication is still an issue with the club and media team in particular so why not just state that yesterday instead of saying wait for the next statement of which we don't know when it will be ?

Hi Pal - hope that you're keeping well? The club have already stated in October the following - 'any monies paid for your 2020/21 season ticket (or if you continue to complete your Direct Debit payments) will be held on your account and will automatically guarantee your seat for the 2021/22 season, with nothing extra to pay'. Now whilst that doesn't state in black and white that you will have no DD payments to make after this month's, it's obvious that's what it means. I fully agree that the club need to be more helpful but hopefully a statement/information will be put out soon.

Just checked my "OnAccount" balance as I never requested a refund of the Direct Debits for this season's ST. It shows a balance of £265. I may be being a bit slow here but surely that's no where near enough the full price of the ST, yet from reading these comments no further direct debits are being taken?

If the final direct debit payment has been taken, would you not expect this "OnAccount" balance to be higher, and close to the full price of the ST for this season?

The accounts have still to be updated to then reflect the full amount which people have paid by DD. They'll be updated after the final DD payment has been taken.

There was a post from Tony on another thread a while back bout the “On Account” only showing balance for 7months of payments

I’ve just rechecked and still the same

I agree it could be clearer that the last payment would be in March/April and nothing further would be taken for 12 months.
The issue is that I, and by the sounds of it a few others, would be disappointed but not entirely surprised if they continued to take money out.

I'm lucky I'm not overly concerned. The only question I have is because my son goes from U10 to U12 next season, so I've no idea how that will work. Although the prices haven't been set/released either way, so I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it as he'd be renewing whether an U10 or U12.

Presumably you'll use whatever amount is on his account and just pay the difference.

I would imagine so. 7 years of frozen season ticket prices, including free for U10s, I not going to kick up a fuss.
I think the thing we all need to bear in mind is that if Covid keeps on hanging around for longer than we hope and expect and the club have made plans early, then everybody gets annoyed - again.

It makes me wonder if the press conferences should have a 5 minute update for non-footballing topics. Ongoing work, community good news stories and any questions that may need to be answered whether from the journos or regular twitter questions. To the Premier League and worldwide football world it's useless information, but as a fan you couldn't complain about a lack of communication. Even if the news was 'sorry, no news'.

There was a post from Tony on another thread a while back bout the “On Account” only showing balance for 7months of payments

I’ve just rechecked and still the same
They are going to update it after the final direct debit payments which are this week. But I’m reliably informed that the correct amounts are in the accounts.

Should be pointed out that the seaon ticket prices being frozen for 7 years is a bit of a myth. We got less games when we got promoted to the premier league so technically, amount per match, the tickets were increased.... but that said they are still cheap, a north end friend of mine complains about what we pay compared to him

They are not taking out direct debit payments after this week.

Cool. Where abouts has it said that. I trust that to be the case... but wouldn't have known but for Leisure (and yourself) replying. I just feel I must be looking in the wrong places.

I suppose it depends on how you look at the value of the ticket. As a ticket which covers every game of the season, it's frozen. Anyone would think you've had a year home schooling and doing algebra to work out how much each game costs
It wouldn't surprise me if there is a big jump in cost next season.

It doesn't say it anywhere unfortunately. It's something I've asked about personally but Leisure has done a brilliant job on behalf of Burnley FC Supporters Groups gathering as much ticket info as possible.

Whilst nowhere on the club website does it actually say 'no further DD payments will be taken after the March payment', in the article released by the club on 31st October it does say 'any monies paid for your 2020/2021 season ticket (or if you continue to complete your Direct Debit payment) will be held on your account and will automatically guarantee your seat for the 2021/2022 season, with nothing extra to pay'.

All existing season ticket holders are guaranteed to not have their ST prices increased in 2021/2022. However, there's no news at the minute that prices won't increase for new ST purchases.
