Burnley F C in pictures
Re: Burnley F C in pictures
I've seen that photograph before and for some reason I had concluded it was a match against Scarborough, although looking at it now the ground seems a bit too full for that fixture.
Re: Burnley F C in pictures
They did indeed. Pretty sure Rotherham and Blackpool wore white away in those games. and they were big crowds. The Mansfield crowd was pretty big but I thought they played in yellow away that day.

Well that does cause a problem!
I have definitely seen that photo on a postcard which did state on there that it was Burnley v Wrexham.
It belonged to a neighbour of mine who unfortunately has now died so can't re-check.
Very strange but I'm sure someone on here will solve it.
Re: Burnley F C in pictures
I have now also seen footage of the game and Wrexham did indeed play in yellow and green.
Re: Burnley F C in pictures
Claretforever has the answer above. It's against Crewe earlier that season.Targetman wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 12:13 pmWell that does cause a problem!

Re: Burnley F C in pictures
I immediately recognised Tommy Cummings from this photo and, not being old enough to have seen him play, I think this is because I have a distant memory of him selling me (or my parents anyway) a pair of football boots when I was a kid and my dad explaining who Tommy was. Possibly in a shop in Nelson. Could this memory be an accurate one does anyone know ?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 10:16 am
The second picture is Tommy and Joy Cummings. Tommy has been gone over 11 years now and Joy passed away about three years ago, lovely couple. I knew them really through Joy only because her mum was a really good friend of my grandma.

It was Jack Bray (ex-Man City) who had the sports shop in Nelson - his brother was former Claret George Bray.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 2:09 pmI immediately recognised Tommy Cummings from this photo and, not being old enough to have seen him play, I think this is because I have a distant memory of him selling me (or my parents anyway) a pair of football boots when I was a kid and my dad explaining who Tommy was. Tommy & Joy went into the licensed trade after he finished with football. They had the Shooters and then the Hare & Hounds at Haggate.
