him and JBG's injuries are beyond the joke and have been for a while. Both need replacing.

What is it this time?

Sadly got to go in summer. It’s a shame because there’s a player in there somewhere, but we can’t keep paying his salary to be injured all the time.

We have 3 wingers (not enough anyway, but that’s a separate argument), two made of glass, with an important run-in to come. Does make you wonder if we do right letting them play internationals.

Sure we don’t have a choice, but given we pay their wages you’d think we might have a say in it.

With Hudson-Odoi out injured and Smith-Rowe doubtful I’m expecting Dwight to play the 90mins tomorrow. It would be just our luck........

Didn't Brady return injured the last time he was away with the Republic, this is becoming ridiculous now, and if we don't get shut of him in the summer I'll scream louder than Lacazette, a RW has to be at the top of our shopping list this summer no excuses we need to get one in.

Clubs are required to release players when asked.
The only reason a player can't join up is if they're injured like Giggs used to be regularly for international friendlies etc.
If a club refuses I believe they can be punished but I'm not sure what it would be

It depends what the nature of the match is - this was a friendly so the FAI are likely liable - in the Euros it is UEFA and for the World Cup it is FIFA

Players do not ask to be injured. Football is a contact sport and getting injured is an occupational hazard. The ' law of averages' means that some players will be injured more than others performing the same tasks. I am sorry that Brady is now injured , the 'again' argument is inappropriate and it is galling to read Burnley supporters on here being so callous with their comments.

Don't blame the player at all, nothing the club can do, but you have to ask what Ireland were really hoping to achieve by playing a player who has basically been struggling with injury for three years in a friendly against bleeding Qatar when their next competitive game is in September.

That's nice,
But if I was considering paying his wages for the next couple of seasons I would have to take a long look at the long periods of unavailability...
and I wouldn't even include the time out due to the serious injury at Leicester.

we have one of the smallest budgets in the league (if not the top two divisions) and there is no real argument to keep Brady, he has unfortunately become a waste of a wage (and one that we cannot afford) because he is injured far too often - the biggest shame is pre his injury he was very very good for us. We simply aren't a big enough club to carry someone for so long, harsh but that seems to be the reality of the situation.

I've not read a single callous comment, just people pointing out the facts and realizing that life is sometimes brutal - he's probably a millionaire at this point and this is no self employed person not being able to earn money whilst not working - he'll survive !

I wouldn't give him any contract, ideally we'd have let him go last summer, but I can sort of understand why we gave him a year's extension, due to the covid uncertainty, and the takeover curtailing our transfer activity, but this summer we need to start clearing out the deadwood, and I'm afraid Brady falls into that category, we simply cant afford to keep paying large wages for little or no contribution, It's bad enough that we've offered JBG an extension with his recent injury record, but if we fall into the same trap with Robbie, when everyone can see he's not capable of performing at this level anymore then I don't hold out much hope for our prospects next season.

Well said claret59. Sick to the bad teeth of people thinking players "choose" to be injured. The question about renewing Brady's contract is another matter. He's sadly rarely delivered in his time with us and injuries are clearly a part of the reason but not the whole reason. JBG is completely different (in my humble opinion).

I totally agree, the problem is when he plays, but he has shown in recent weeks that he can hopefully be a valuable squad member although we'll obviously have to manage his workload carefully, and possibly use him more sparingly in future, maybe he'll make a decent impact sub when we're chasing a game, but Brady I'm afraid has offered us very little considering our large outlay on him, even his set-pieces, which he's supposed to be famed for are now poor.

That’s very true, but there’s no disguising or dressing up the fact that injured players whilst injured contribute absolutely nothing to the cause & drain important resources that could be utilised elsewhere, players who are so susceptible shouldn’t really have a future at the club.

Get rid of him.

It’s not like we are a club who rush players back from injury. We appear to let them have more than enough time to get back to peak fitness after any injury.

Thank him for his efforts and send him on his way at the end of the season.

Feel sorry for him. Injuries are just getting worse and worse. Never has a chance to get some good match practice and build form. We all know what he's capable of, but it's just so hard constantly being injured.

I hope he somehow turns things around, hopefully he's in touch with a specialist and given good advice on how to reduce the risks of injury.

The most silly comment on the thread. The "again' comment is not callous, it's a fact. What's the point of having a player who is continually injured. Nobody is celebrating his injury, many are very frustrated, I'm sure Brady is, but even Brady himself cannot justify taking wages for so little contribution.

There seems to be a number of unlucky players whose bodies, for whatever reason, can't seem to stand the rigours of professional football - despite their talent or overall fitness levels. Equally there are some who never seem to get injured and can play season after season without long spells out.

Jack Wilshere, Alex Ox and of course Robbie Brady are all good examples. It's not callous to say it - it's just fact based on their injury records. Re: Brady, it would be mad to keep him based on our squad size but also the fact that even when he's played, he's not been very good, despite a few purple patches here and there.

Great! Just how many players would we have if we just got rid of players who have been injured this season? One of the reasons that teams have squads is to be able to cope when some players get injured.

Brady is not on the same level as Michael owen. He is supposed to have feigned injury at club level so that he wouldn't get really injured before England games.
It is definitely arguable that Brady is a more useful player than the post-madrid Owen was too.
A fit JBG is way above a fit both of those added together though.

These things happen, it's not the fault of Brady.
The main concern for me is that niggles and minor injuries are more common in ageing players, as a club we have more than our fair share of these, so get used to seasons like the current one where we struggle to play a settled team and have to play players out of position to accommodate for it.

There’s been injured & been injured, the situation we have with some is they are never nothing else. Some people are institutionally injured habitually it doesn’t matter who’s fault it is, get shut no good to man nor beast.

I'm pretty sure that the manager is aware of Brady's situation. So how many others should he get rid of?

For a bit of balance, Real Madrid are rumoured to be looking to off load their most injury prone player of the last 18 months

Bizarrely they think they'll still get £50 million for Hazard.

No club will, or should, wait forever for a player if they're consistently spending more time injured than fit.

I'm pretty sure that the manager is aware of Brady's situation. So how many others should he get rid of?
No idea! The thread is discussing RB & nobody else.

So I presume you'd refuse sick pay if you were off work sick?
I presume you’d offer Brady another contract

Qatar? Did Ireland really need to play a friendly against Qatar at this particular time?

Didn't look a small injury as he was down for a couple of minutes and limping badly when he came off .

This is Brady's most productive season since joining us with 31 appearances in all competitions including internationals.

He made 15 league starts in 17/18 that was his best in terms of starts but only 21 appearances in total. Most seasons he's played fewer than 25 times.
This season he has had 12 league starts. 45 league starts in just over 4 years with Burnley.

With all due respect, some players are clearly more injury prone than others. Chris Wood has made 101 starts since signing the summer after Brady. Dwight has already started 82 games since making his debut.

I wish Robbie well and would love to have a fully fit Robbie in the squad but I just don't think that he's worth a big wage when he plays 1 game in 3. He's clearly behind Dwight in the pecking order for left wing and not first choice on the Right hand side. If we were a team like Real Madrid and he was an exceptional talent then maybe we could afford it but we're not and he's not. He's a good player on his day but they are too few and far between.
