England vs Poland
Re: England vs Poland
Why is Kane crossing the ball?
You'd never see Chris Wood or Ashley Barnes doing that.

Re: England vs Poland
Not sure how Southgate can be blamed for that, or Pope. Pope gave the ball to Stones who is a better passer of the ball, stones had loads of time but inexplicably turned inside onto his weak foot.Top Claret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 9:03 pmI blame Southgate. Pope should have gone long but the manager insist that he plays the ball out to the defenders, which puts them under pressure when closed down
People looking too much into things. This isn’t about playing from the back, it’s about simple decision making.

Re: England vs Poland
Very split here. You can normally get a good idea from who the trolls support on social media, but it's literally split between Pope and Stones.
As there's more chance of them being City flogs, then it's more likely the majority support Pope in this one.

Re: England vs Poland
Pope should have done better with his feet there.
And we need a CB more comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Time to play Pickford at CB

Re: England vs Poland
Stones had to go backwards to the ball and receive it facing his own goal. Thats never easy for a defender and whilst Id give the majority of the blame to Stones it still was poor by Popematttheclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 9:03 pmPut him in trouble? That's simply not true, as I suspect you know. Stones was in no trouble whatsoever, all the time in the world and got himself into trouble (as he has plenty of times before), only one person to blame for that.

Still in shock that a Southgate team got caught out trying to fanny around with it at the back.
Just don't know what to think any more.

Pope looks a nervous wreck with the England defenders he has in front of him, the defenders look like a nervous wreck with Pope behind them.
Just hope the shaky performances from Nick in these two games don't knock his confidence for our final run in. We need him on form, not turning into Frank Spenser!

Bollards! Stones should just have got rid, but no he wants to play fancy dandy football.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 9:00 pmPope's ball to Stones was under hit and put him in trouble
That has been coming though Poland have been much better 2nd half, and England have been sloppy since the break.
No chance for Pope with the finish I'm afraid that was clinical.

The Polish right winger is giving Chilwell some problems, might be an answer for us.
Re: England vs Poland
Really? I thought I was a Burnley fan saying it how it is and defending our player when other “fans” want to criticise him unfairly.
Are you sure you support our club? You and a few others are all too eager to have a pop at our players given a chance

Everything this team does under Southgate looks forced, unnatural, the players uneasy. There's no flow at all. It's a sad sight.
I hope he gets binned after the Euros but I've more chance of boning Keira Knightly than that!

Re: England vs Poland
I’m not having a pop at anyone. Your attempts to deflect any criticism at all away from Pope appears desperate to me. As do suggestions about Stones apologising for taking away Pope’s clean sheet. It’s not about being a Burnley fan it’s about having a balanced view of things instead of defending our player no matter what.

Can I make a suggestion?
Watch the game without the claret specs on.
Pope has looked a shadow of his Burnley self.
Comments about Maguire are probably hinting at Tarks being better...

Re: England vs Poland
Feel sorry for Stones he's been outstanding of late. Pope is never going to dislodge Pickford, I understand comments from Dyche were made to give Pope confidence ( Nick Popes feet/kicking will improve) but I don't think they/ it will, it's either in you or it's not. I'm not wanting to set out to criticise Pope but that's how I see it.

If Pope played the way he does for Burnley and cleared it, would it still be 1v0?

I guess. But Stones could have made that error at any point during the game. The fact that Pope touched the ball before Stones is just incidental.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 9:18 pmIf Pope played the way he does for Burnley and cleared it, would it still be 1v0?

Re: England vs Poland
My comments about Maguire had absolutely nothing to do with tarks . His positioning is poor and he's sooo slow .
Re: England vs Poland
Maybe I am defending Pope a lot, is it any surprise when there are so many trolls on here repeating the media propaganda about him which looks like it self-prophesising each time he plays.
Check out the stats link on the other thread. Popes kicking is statistically only marginally worse than Pickfords, who in turn is head and shoulders behind Allison and Ederson (who both have highly skilled and drilled teams in front of them which really helps)

Re: England vs Poland
Very good young player.
I wouldn’t have him starting games for England at the moment though.
But I also wouldn’t be playing two holding players!!

Pope did a misplaced pass that made stones run about 15 yards backwards towards his own goal.
Unfortunately this will most likely be his last appearance for England. He has looked like a fish out of water.

Re: England vs Poland
It's frightening how poor England have been 2nd half, and bear in mind this is a Poland team missing their star striker, this would be a great point for them if they hold on.
When the heck is Gareth going to make a sub?

This group of England players or losers and will never win anything wearing that England shirt. Lack of leadership in this squad stands out and unless Southgate addresses this England are yet again going to disappoint

Re: England vs Poland
Such a pedestrian performance by England.
When you have a team full of attacking talent what is the point of setting up and playing so conservatively against a team like Poland? When you have a one goal lead the other side is always in the game and Poland got a sniff. The defensive side of our game is the biggest weakness , so why not just go to outscore sides like this.
