Agents fees 2020-21

Post by Woodleyclaret » Wed Mar 31, 2021 5:19 pm

Burnley spent £4.5m on agents fees according to published data
Considering we signed one play at £1m I am struggling to see where the fees went

Where is this published data
Do agents get fees if current players sign new contracts - wouldn't be surprised if they do

Lots of fees relate to renewals. Liverpool had agents fees of £30m last year even though they signed very few players.

They get released here (although you can't see the individual transaction amounts) https://www.thefa.com/football-rules-go ... ansactions but aren't there yet.

That’s 9 then + signing of Stephens. So we’re looking at an average of nearly half a million quid for agents for each contract extension? Jeeze!

In some cases an agent can represent both the club and the player, thus getting double the amount.

The Agents fees to 1 Feb 2021 have been released - some may be surprised at our near £4.5m bill given the summer and January windows but there have been a slew of deal extensions. Only West Brom have spent less than us in the Premier League and only Watford of the 3 that went down have spent less (though that is half what we have paid)

https://twitter.com/KieranMaguire/statu ... 5692639234
official documents - Intermediary fees and transactions can be found here - they download to your device

https://www.thefa.com/news/2021/mar/31/ ... ons-310321

The transactions one tells you all the fee generating actions but not their individual value - there were 24 such events in the period for our club, mainly at the Academy

Seems to always be confusion with these fees but we will not have paid an agent to represent Stephens. We as a club will be using agents and that’s where the fees are.

actually we do, more or less all clubs do, they pay the fee that you would think the players should - Daniel Geey is better known to us as @FootballLaw

We are one of the few clubs that I haven't heard are being investigated - doesn't mean we are not but not heard anything

I just thought you had to buy players to attract agents fees CT.

Fair points about the renewals and our agents though.

and new HMRC guidance too for clubs dealings with agents

https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manual ... l/eim01150

https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manual ... l/eim01151

a clear focus on clubs extended responsibilities I would say.

All depends, there are a fair number that do a lot of good work for their clients, suggest you do more research on what they actually do - there is an awful lot of material out there now for you to actually understand what there contribution is.

You'd have a point if there was a history of clubs exploiting players in the past.

I don't agree with some of the fees agents get, nor the way they hawk their clients around whilst still under contract, but the clubs don't cover themselves in glory either.

The whole agent thing stinks of corruption and back handing etc, end of the day it is us lining their pockets either by ticket, tele or merchandise pricing. Puts me off spending on football.

The funniest story I ever heard was when Leeds were signing Seth Johnson from Derby

https://www.planetfootball.com/in-depth ... struggles/

CT has got it slightly wrong and footballers agents are paid directly by the clubs involved - just look at the monies earned by agents to the likes of Pogba (Pogba certainly doesn't pay Mino Raiola and he (Raiola) is not just going to sit back and let an agent working for Man Utd take all the money)

We may also employ, and subsequently pay, an agent if we give them the job of finding a player but rest assured the players personal agent will always get a cut and this includes on contract extensions

Just imagine what a risk MG took when he sent out the supposed begging fax to agents some years back :D

On the other hand I know an agent who has a substantial group of young players, some at local Championship clubs, and he makes sure these guys understand the financial implication of planning for the future when they have to pack in

You would think it should be down to the players to pay their own agent but that would only add more to the final fees anyway

Well said, most haven’t a clue how important they are to players. Why should a club get payed a fortune for tv rights but not distribute that to those we are watching. It would only make the chairman richer.

There are some bad ones, but not all.
