I didn’t believe it.
And I certainly didn’t refresh Twitter constantly for two hours.

He would be better off agreeing a new deal we are on the verge of greatness and he would be foolish to miss out.

In all seriousness, and no doubt it's been said before but I doubt he'll get his chance with England now - no matter who he plays for. I'm not sure whether Leicester still want him and I'm not sure who would stump up for him.
Could be we lose him very cheaply. I'm still glad we didn't sell.

Re: Tarks rumour.
I actually posted the OP because I feel his stock is falling and there might not be bidders this Summer. Dawson has already signed two years at West Ham, they were one he was mentioned with. Leicester are doing very nicely without him.

Difficult situation with Tarks. We will be lucky to get 15-20m for him this summer. Then you have to ask the question is it even worth us selling him? If we are looking at a fee of that much I would rather keep him for his last year and let him go for free. Much better chance of staying up next season with Tarks.

Still only 28 so could be seen as a reasonable long term investment for any suitors (which would still give a decent fee)
We had to let Hendrick go for nothing last season, Brady will likely do the same this summer, so can we afford Tarks to do the same in 2022
Interesting to see what the new owner thinks
We hear Dyche is being left to deal with all football matters, in which case I could envisage him being asked to stay, but finances (especially with our new debt) may play a part in this
Re: Tarks rumour.
I'd be amazed if Leicester weren't interested at 15 million. Their centre backs have struggled with injuries this year and with European football guaranteed they'll have plenty of games to play.

I'd be surprised if Man U were not interested - they need a cultured defender to make McGuire look better than average.

I totally understand your point but with only 12 months left on his contract who is going to pay enough to make the deal worth while? When you take into account Brentford get 25 percent of any profits it almost makes more sense just to keep him and let him walk for free.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 8:07 pmThe sore toe could get worse if he isn't allowed to go this summer

Given how well his likely suitors have performed this season I can’t see them going for Tarks when finances are low.

Re: Tarks rumour.
Totally agree. It’s 27.5% so for £15m we get £10m-ish. Then compare that to the money we make staying in the prem. we all saw the difference to results when Tarks/Mee were out at the start of the season. Sure, some of that was Mee but let’s be clear we’re only 7pts above the drop zone with them both playing most of the season. Take one out and we’d be right down there. You’d get a 19yo CH with no Prem experience at all for £10m. I’ll take another ~£130m of Prem money instead thanks very much.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 9:06 pmI totally understand your point but with only 12 months left on his contract who is going to pay enough to make the deal worth while? He’s not going to sulk - it’s what he wants and he’s playing for a new contract elsewhere.
Besides, this is a pointless argument. We have no choice in it whatsoever. He’s been very candid that he wants more control over his career. He doesn’t have to sign for anyone and why would he with a massive pay day looming? He’d much prefer being on the free transfer list in 2022 alongside Mbappe & Neymar.

Re: Tarks rumour.
We've made our money on Tarkowski ten fold. He's been the foundation for a defence that has enabled us to survive in the PL.
We should do the decent thing, that is allow him to leave if he gets offered a deal which is acceptable to him.
If we don't allow players to achieve their best we may find recruitment very difficult indeed.

Re: Tarks rumour.
I’m honestly not sure that anyone would’ve offered us cash for Hendrick or Brady to be honest. They’re decent players and will find clubs, but not stand out enough to warrant a hefty transfer fee, in my view. We’re better off with both off the payroll for the contribution they provide (certainly in Brady’s case, perhaps harsh on Hendrick).jojomk1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 8:07 pm

The key issue with Tarks is he’s due a massive payday in 2022. We’ll need to match that and the additional wages he’d get elsewhere to even start the conversation. Then it’s a question of how much ambition ALK have to strengthen the squad and push on. Even then it’s very unlikely we could offer the CL football he’s said he’s looking for. Not ideal but 6 of his best years for £3.8m, or whatever it was, is outstanding business.

But i think we should let him go as soon as he gets a decent offer. Assuming a club comes in for him this summer.

Re: Tarks rumour.
Yes, that is reasonable.
What I am saying is simply that if an offer that suits him comes in for JT, even if it is a low one:
1, he owes us nothing, and any sum is likely to show a decent profit
2, it would show prospective new signings that we, as a club, don't stand in the way of any of our players' progress.

with our new acquired debt, China rebate, no fans in stadiums and paying the salary of the new owners we will be looking for top dollar, if we don’t get that he stays until his contract is done.

I can’t see the board letting Tarks walk for free when we could get a substantial amount of cash which could be used to add to the squad.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 10:07 pmI’m sorry but why the hell would the club accept a low offer offer for him.

Also, he's played really well for us this season (for the most part) we can't be sure he'd be happy to do it all again, particularly if he was being denied an opportunity to progress his career.

On the standing in people’s way point - I think we have sold him in the summer if WHU had gone a bit higher. Soretoe-gate suggested to me that we were willing if the conditions were right. Maybe we couldn’t secure who we wanted to replace him (Dawson? He’s only on loan). Or maybe Dyche just didn’t trust Garlick to secure a replacement so erred on the side of caution? Or maybe the early results scared us?
What I would say is that I’m not sure Tarky leaving in a free and pocketing a lottery win would put promising young players off joining us. In fact, I think they’d look the option of coming here, developing and moving on with a massive signing on fee quite positively. Sure their agents would too
I think this summer Di Maria and Messi are OOC. Next year Neymar and Mbappe. Suspect that running contracts down is going to be much more commonplace. Not great for us because we tend not to like offering long contracts.

I think that’s the point Riley, does anyone actually expect us to get substantial cash for Tarks at this point?
He’s had an ok season in a team that is probably going to just avoid relegation. Plus the teams that are likely going to try and sign him, there CBS have all had really good seasons.
Like I said earlier I think they will offer close to 15m. Minus the 25% Brentford cut it almost makes the deal pointless. Who are we going to sign for close to 11-12m that can go straight into the eleven?

Just re-read the interview & it’s not quite how I remember it. Did sound more like he was looking for a sale more than to run down his contract.

Re: Tarks rumour.
A figure north of £10m is still a substantial amount of money. This is a business at the end of the day and the guys running the show are unlikely to turn down figures in that ball park, in my opinion.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 10:28 pmI think that’s the point Riley, does anyone actually expect us to get substantial cash for Tarks at this point?

It’s not as simple as asking who we are going to sign to replace him. If he leaves for free at the end of next season who is going to replace him for no fee?
We’re very unlikely to replace Tarkowski for a player currently as good, that’s the nature of the position we’re in. But £10m, if that’s all that we end up with, is more use than nothing.

I’ve never heard anything to suggest he wanted to run down his contract. He said he wasn’t looking to sign a new deal and it appears that he was looking for a move last summer. Which suggests he will be doing the same this summer.

Possibly. My memory of that interview was different, but agree it did sound like that when re-reading it. I think the temptation of having his pick of clubs and a better financial deal will prove more tempting than you think, but we’ll see.
If we sell, for me it has to be a decent amount to risk losing the PL income on a poorer quality signing, which I agree with you is inevitable.

Precisely, the 'faulty' Board should've bought a replacement 2-3 years ago and had him waiting on the bench ready; there was a lad at Boro called Gibson who looked a likely candidate, why didn't they get him signed? If he leaves for nothing, people will be on here complaining.
If he leaves and we get a fee, people will be on here complaining.
We shouldn't be focusing on whether or not we get anything for him, he's clearly going either this summer or next and the pittance we paid for the return we got for him has been excellent value.
It's about who replaces him now.
Dyche's long term target is at West Ham, so time to find the next lad and its probably going to be one of the championship lot.
With a bit of luck the target has been identified and the club are making moves already.

Would he be happy to do the same next year even if we maintained Prem League status
The carrot of a multi million pound signing on deal in the summer of 2022 may be attractive but the old story of never knowing when injuries may curtail a career are always there. Plus a chance of playing in europe (even the Europa League) could mean he or his agent make waves about a move this summer
Can we trust starting next season with an unproven Championship CB. I doubt it so I hope the targets have been identified from the likes of Sheff Utd, WBA and a n other (hopefully not us
