he was doing his job. I'm observing that he's not enjoying playing much at the moment, whether thats looking disinterested or whatever I don't know, but in seasons prior to this one - he's been immense and playing with the "Legs-Hearts-Mind" motto in full view, but this season he's not appeared to do so.

James Tarkowski IS an England international, and has the caps to prove this. He is a quality Premier League footballer, he could and likely will play for in a team higher up the league to us, as evidenced by West Ham and Leicester's interest last summer.
He is a very good defender for Burnley Football Club. Time will tell if he can apply his skill set to a different setup with a more expansive style. But if and when leaves, it will be with mine and other thanks for serving BFC well.

He is in and out for sure, it's almost like his disappointment of not getting the move has got to him (unintentionally, just natural I guess) and has affected some of his decisions. Hopefully he'll give us enough to get us over the line this season and then if he gets his move good luck to him

I think there's plenty of PL clubs would take him at £25-£30 million
Re: Tarks rumour.
For a fee of 10-15 million I reckon there will be. Even if Leicester or West Ham use him as a squad player.

Re: Tarks rumour.
If we get £25-£30m we'll be doing well considering he's entering the final year of his contract, if and when he goes he'll go with my blessing, he's proven himself to be a great servant to BFC, and for those who don't think he's PL material he's played over 150 games at this level for Burnley, so he must be showing something to SD and the coaches, now whether he can make the transition to a bigger club and a different style time will tell, but Michael Keane certainly showed that we can produce players who can make the step up.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 3:01 pmI think there's plenty of PL clubs would take him at £25-£30 million
Re: Tarks rumour.
Superb player for us.
You don’t keep a player against their wishes, and you don’t let a player walk for free that you can get good money for to reinvest. That is the definition of stupidity.
We no doubt have a tidy reputation for developing players. How many have we had play for England in recent seasons? 5/6? That’s our UP, and it should be a real bargaining chip when we chase potential signings.
If and when he does go, he’ll be fondly remembered, and who can blame him for one last payday in what is a short career.

Given that we only received a 30m bid last summer with two years left on his contract when his stock was at his highest. We will be lucky to get 15-20m for him now.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 3:01 pmI think there's plenty of PL clubs would take him at £25-£30 million

No doubting he's a terrific player, but he has dropped off this season. Just can't see him getting the move he wanted, in footballing terms. Ive no doubt there are better and younger CH to be had for less money in Europe.

Re: Tarks rumour.
Contrary to most it seems, I do not think Tarks has enjoyed the same level of sustained performance as in previous seasons. Nor do not think there will be the same clamour for his signature that there seemed to be previously for him come summer. I expect Tarks to be here next season as a result, either signing a new deal or leaving for free to stimulate interest from those unwilling to meet our valuation

Why are they mental? I disagree with most of them, but to call someone strange because they do not share you opinion is... well, strange. Either you are the oracle of football, think your intellect is superior or at best intolerant of others stating their opinion. Your’s is Not the sort of comment designed to engage question why or interrogate others position. So I suspect it is not option 2.claretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:04 pmMental replies after the Newcastle game. He is still our best outfield player. Strange folk.

I'm not sure why people think Leicester and West Ham won't be interested anymore? He'll be going cheap and with them both likely to be playing in Europe there's plenty of games to be played.

Exactly, and it would be a move purely for a pay rise.
He would be a squad member as opposed to a nailed-on starter. Would that help his international prospects?

Re: Tarks rumour.
Think people are just more of the opinion that clubs like Leicester and West Ham can sign defenders of similar quality for less wages and fee.
I mean look at last summer, Burnley turned down 30m for Tarks. Leicester sign Fofana for approx 30m. Everton sign Godfrey for approx 30m. West Ham sign Dawson for 3m.
All arguably better than Tarks.
I think Tarks has missed his chance, I just don’t see what team is going to spend between 15-20m on a fee and then what 100k a week on him. All the mid table teams have really good CBS not sure who is spending that kind of money on a bench player.
Re: Tarks rumour.
He’d best knuckle down then and sign a new contract with us then get back to his best form. Every chance of moving in another year or two if he sets the world on fire like he used to
Re: Tarks rumour.
His stock peaked last year and only Leicester and West Ham appeared to have any kind of interest. Leicester's reported max bid was £25m?elwaclaret wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 5:27 pmContrary to most it seems, I do not think Tarks has enjoyed the same level of sustained performance as in previous seasons. If we do get an offer circa £15M or above then we need to take it. And with the £8M for Gibson, we have the basis of a kitty to work with. Collins from Stoke would be a start.

Re: Tarks rumour.
I am hopeful that both SD and Tarks can be tied down for longer contracts this Summer-more so than in the Summer. I hope that Tarks looks at Hendrick's plight. He rarely now starts at Newcastle. Yes Tarks could move on, but seem to recall he favours the North West, and personally I cant see any of the N W PL sides wanting him, other than as a squad player.I believe with our form this year and his contract reducing, his worth has dropped.
He is still our king pin and can be a big fish in a small pond. If ALK are able to prove we have funds to bring in new and younger faces in Summer then that could ensure both these two key guys get new contracts
No excuses when the window opens. We have known our requirements for the past 3 windows

Re: Tarks rumour.
One of our best players that’s for sure. JT is an absolute rock.
Personally I think he should play in midfield.
He would outmuscle most and he can take on players and we have seen some useful runs past opposition players.

Re: Tarks rumour.
Next Sunday will be the perfect opportunity for JT to put himself in the window for the summer transfer market
Hope they play Cavani up front as his guile and knowledge of the game will test JT and BM. Tarks has made some individual mistakes in the last couple of games and, as a central defender, they are scrutinised more than most
There will be teams interested next summer and if they feel they seriously need JT for the following season they will be prepared to pay decent money
Based on the alleged statement last summer he clearly wants to have a crack at playing for a bigger club with european competition and nobody could argue with that

Re: Tarks rumour.
I think he should look at Keanes struggles with Everton. Keane was awesome for us but it's a very different story when you're in a more attacking team. Compared to Keane, Tarkowski also has no pace which will hinder him playing for sides that like to attack with a high line.
A team like Leicester that sit back and counter would suit him more. I actually don't think he'll be good enough to play for England ahead of Maguire or Stones. He may make a sub but even then Southgate is going to prefer younger players ahead of him.

I tend to think that if Tarkowski leaves, he will look back on his career and think that his best football was played at Burnley.
