Tv claiming 17/18 teams have agreed to join. FIFA saying players in ESL banned from World Cup. Sounds serious

Just the "big 6" and other European clubs trying to blackmail and scare their own associations and UEFA so they get more money and control in planning Champions League.

If it does progress and a new ESL is formed, good, let them go and refuse permission for them to rejoin the relevant leagues 2/3 years later when they come crying back.

But to be played alongside of the domestic leagues the clubs, certainly in England not sure of other leagues, need the Premier League permission to participate. The Premier League will not give the permission due to mainly the ESL devaluing the Premier League, so if United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and City want to play in the ESL they will need to breakaway from the Premier League and no longer participate in domestic competitions.

UEFA statement, partnered with the big leagues

Statement by UEFA, the English Football Association, the Premier League, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), LaLiga, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and Lega Serie A
Sunday 18 April 2021

UEFA, the English Football Association and the Premier League, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga, and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and Lega Serie A have learned that a few English, Spanish and Italian clubs may be planning to announce their creation of a closed, so-called Super League.

If this were to happen, we wish to reiterate that we – UEFA, the English FA, RFEF, FIGC, the Premier League, LaLiga, Lega Serie A, but also FIFA and all our member associations - will remain united in our efforts to stop this cynical project, a project that is founded on the self-interest of a few clubs at a time when society needs solidarity more than ever.

We will consider all measures available to us, at all levels, both judicial and sporting in order to prevent this happening. Football is based on open competitions and sporting merit; it cannot be any other way.

As previously announced by FIFA and the six Federations, the clubs concerned will be banned from playing in any other competition at domestic, European or world level, and their players could be denied the opportunity to represent their national teams.

We thank those clubs in other countries, especially the French and German clubs, who have refused to sign up to this. We call on all lovers of football, supporters and politicians, to join us in fighting against such a project if it were to be announced. This persistent self-interest of a few has been going on for too long. Enough is enough.

The minute that European league is formed that it was the tv companies will want to see. Unless it’s a rehash of the champions league (which I doubt they make the same mistake again) it’ll be the start of the European league that has been talked about for years. At the end of the day who wants to see this game on today above Man Utd vs Barca week in week out?

Sky commentary team quick to condemn the English clubs that have so far signed up, so presumably Sky won't have the TV rights and they won't want to see their PL offering watered down.

Gary Neville going so far as to suggest the clubs that have signed up be deducted points for next season.

the proposal on the table is specifically to run alongside the domestic leagues - I have been saying that was the route it would take for years - it is up to the leagues and FIFA/UEFA/domestic FA's to put the block on that

Was is also noticeable about this proposal is that it has a single media partner globally - this could be the deal that saves DAZN as an entity, remember they have no current interest in breaking domestic deals as they have just won the next cycle in Italy and have a share in the German domestic deal

Premier League Statement

Premier League condemns European Super League proposal
18 Apr 2021

The Premier League condemns any proposal that attacks the principles of open competition and sporting merit which are at the heart of the domestic and European football pyramid.

Fans of any club in England and across Europe can currently dream that their team may climb to the top and play against the best. We believe that the concept of a European Super League would destroy this dream.

The Premier League is proud to run a competitive and compelling football competition that has made it the most widely watched league in the world. Our success has enabled us to make an unrivalled financial contribution to the domestic football pyramid.

A European Super League will undermine the appeal of the whole game, and have a deeply damaging impact on the immediate and future prospects of the Premier League and its member clubs, and all those in football who rely on our funding and solidarity to prosper.

We will work with fans, The FA, EFL, PFA and LMA, as well as other stakeholders, at home and abroad, to defend the integrity and future prospects of English football in the best interests of the game.

I like Gary Neville's suggestion on commentary that those clubs that have jumped the gun and put their names to this new project should be deducted PL points for next season. :)

We all know FIFA and our FA are not sitting enough to resist what the clubs want. UEFA I’m assuming will govern this competition so they won’t object.

I’m not sure who DAZN are sorry but I’m surprised it’ll be only one media partner. I’d have thought they would have learned from the premier league.

If you were from the commercial team of these clubs it is a no brainer I suppose.

Don't be surprised if FIFA are in collusion - there has been stories rumbling on that front for a few years now - FIFA needs to be kept onside simply so players can also play international football

Tottenham do not have a Foreign owner

Juventus have had the longest single ownership in Italy over 70 years

Real Madrid and Barcelona owned by fans

need to check on Athletico Madrid - was Chinese but not anymore

It is the American owners and the Spanish giants that are behind this - project big picture was part of it too - it is no coincidence that the Premier League still has not finalised it's strategic review that was to report last month

Spurs - last league title (two titles) 1960/61

Arsenal - last league title 2003/04

Chelsea - last league title 2016/17 (a team with minimal history pre dodgy Russian money)

Liverpool - one league title in 30 years!

Man City - a couple more titles than Burnley pre dodgy Middle Eastern money

Man United - spent £1b since Ferguson left and not a title since.

Does big mean best or does it actually mean wealthiest?

I’d let them have their European league and permanently remove them from all domestic competition, if I had my way.

I’d certainly not be letting them use this threat as some sort of bargaining chip that will gain them any sort of advantage on other teams.

Can’t wait! They must be well aware of the backlash that they’ll get and are probably not expecting to win the ballet. It’s what they’re expecting to get from their large set of chips that bothers me!

Call their bluff and send them packing!

I’m sure (can’t remember exact wording) that Pace did comment at one point in one of his eight million interviews in that first fortnight about the ‘Big Picture’ project. He didn’t sound against it, as I recall. Along the lines of seeing what is possible with league structures to maximise revenue etc.

If that’s the case, he can **** off now as far as I’m concerned. I’ll happily be proved wrong, but if this is the sort of nonsense that our club has bought (sold) into, I want none of it.

Do you think the broadcasters will be paying the PL huge sums of money to show football that doesn’t involve the ‘big six’?

Quick question regarding Alan - since he took over have you noticed at our home games the shots of the houses and old mills over the Bob Lord that the cameras usually like to show at various points throughout the game?

Not as much as now but still pretty huge.
