Financial planning for this summers transfers

Post by jojomk1 » Mon Apr 26, 2021 6:08 pm

After that great performance Premier League football all but guaranteed for next season

We all seem to recognise a good amount of investment is required this summer

Quality CB needed to replace Tarks (plus another if Dunne goes) and a total midfield that lacks any real depth are the minimum areas to improve on

But where is the money going to come from

The new owners bought the club by taking it into debt, so they are not going to suddenly find some cash in their back pockets for SD

Would we be happy to see more debt added onto the clubs bank account

Can they maybe find new investors by raising capital against a new issue of shares

A new shirt sponsorship deal is almost certain but given the kudos of our club (most people outside of the UK don't even know where Burnley is :) ) can we seriously expect a significant revenue increase in any such package deal

Can we sell naming rights for the ground

Any plans can now be worked on with more confidence as league status is retained so just hope Mr Pace and his team earn their sizeable wages to give SD the financial backing he needs

I remember my accountant asking me who Endsleigh were when they first sponsored us. Which was worrying at the time. You know, finance etc.

I think you'll find the Tarks situation will clear itself up and finances are available to improve.

The new owners bought the club by taking it into debt, so they are not going to suddenly find some cash in their back pockets for SD.

I am told there will be significantly more made available per position and player as and when needed.

Would we be happy to see more debt added onto the clubs bank account.

That is a personal issue for individual fans.

Can they maybe find new investors by raising capital against a new issue of shares.

Expect further developments

A new shirt sponsorship deal is almost certain but given the kudos of our club (most people outside of the UK don't even know where Burnley is :) ) can we seriously expect a significant revenue increase in any such package deal.

Expect a deal with a name you know that does not involve gambling

At what stage have we reached regarding banning sponsorship by gambling companies? I thought this was quite close to being finalised but reading above it looks like I’m wrong.

If there's no money then we'll have to sell to buy and unfortunately Tarks has made it clear he wants to go and with his contract situation, I don't think he alone will generate enough funds to rebuild the side.

Out-
Pope 40m
Tarks 20m

10m to service loans
50m to spend

In-
Heaton- free
Quaison-free
New starting CB- 15m
Starting right midfielder- 15m
Young CB with potential - 10m
One of young right back/left midfielder/centre mid- 10m

I'd say whoever comes in is likely weaker than Tarks, Heaton can help bring Peacock-Farrell through but obviously weaker between the sticks but hopefully we'd be stronger in two or three other positions with greater depth in the squad.
Don't see how we can do it without weakening some part of the side.

Conroy no club in world football would pay that for Pope.

20m is more realistic

For England’s current number one? Sheffield United paid 18.5 for Ramsdale last summer.

Worth £60m given the going rate for Kepa and Allison, in my opinion.

Ok il put it another way.

Name a club that would be prepared to pay 40m for Pope. Every top team plays out from back. It’s been proven Pope can’t play that way.

I have been asking for weeks similar questions and no one has been able to provide any info on where the finances are going to come from.

Ok I just think there is only 6 clubs in this league that can afford a sum of 40m on goalkeeper.
Can’t see any of them being willing to spend that when he doesn’t suit there playing style.

He’s a great player but unfortunately for him he is probably not going to leave to a bigger than Burnley.

Very positive

"Think you will find the Tarks situation will clear itself up"

So, do we presume JT will be signing a new deal or going - that's a bit of an open ended statement

"It's a personal issue for fans re club debt"

So presume the club will be borrowing more money as part of summer transfer funding - more interest payments, but hopefully nearer to B of E rate of around 1% rather than 10% we are currently signed up for ;)

"Raising capital against a new issue of shares" seems to be a further development

Wonder who these new investors may be - people who understand football is also for the fans hopefully

We know there will be a new shirt sponsor but will this bring in significant additional revenues to help fund transfer dealings and offset interest payments on increased debt

As previously said

Exciting times

A hut is almost a household (four walls and a roof ;) )

Just imagine if we were to sell the name of the ground, we could be playing matches at The Hut rather than The Turf :)

You could be right but they're a huge company these days. Someone above suggested Boohoo and I'd suggest Barnfield are in their league in terms of turnover. They've got developments going on all over the place.

Pickford went to Everton for £30 million and he's an accident waiting to happen, so are you saying he was signed just because he's apparently a better passer?

Pope plays in a way to suit us, if he went to a different club he'd adapt his game.
He can pass a ball, he can kick a ball.
He's also a great shot stopper.

You could be right but they're a huge company these days. Someone above suggested Boohoo and I'd suggest Barnfield are in their league in terms of turnover. They've got developments going on all over the place.
Boohoo posted £856m revenue in 2019, Barnfield £89m in 2020. The hut group £1.14bn.

Would prefer Anne Summers just because there's a few dildos on this site.

I get what your saying but as an all round keeper Pickford is slightly better. Pope is a great shot stopper and commands his area but as his England performances proved, he couldn’t adapt to playing out from the back.

Just as a side point, I think Pickford has a bad reputation. Pickford and Pope have had the same amount of errors leading to the goals this season (2).

Don’t get me wrong we could get more than 20m for him. I just can’t see any club shelling out 40m.

He proved he can pass it out from the back when with England, the problem was the idiot Stones fluffed it up.

Hardly instills confidence in the keeper when his defender just gives the ball away.
