Today's football 01/05
I've just seen City's line up, Jesus and Aguero playing, can't see Palace doing well today against them..

I thought you'd posted this early and then realised we are under 5 mins to kick off in first game

I hadn't realised myself until I went to see who was playing today.
Re: Today's football 01/05
Is there a nastier player than Fernandinho?
He is so cynical yet he knows that he won't be booked for any early fouls.

Re: Today's football 01/05
Aguero needs one or 2 goals to beat Rooney's tally of most league goals for a single club in the PL I think I read somewhere.

Re: Today's football 01/05
Typical City they lull you into a false sense of security and then strike, Good outcome for us if Palace lose, we could still easily finish above them with a strong end to the campaign.
Sheff Wed still scoreless with Forest who've missed a 1st half penalty, Wednesday hanging onto their Championship status by their fingertips quite literally.

FCBurnley : "How strong a team will Chelsea put out v Fulham". Chelsea have a difficult run in after today, City, Arsenal and Leicester before a final game at Villa. I think they'd want to win today if they want to get a top 4 place. So maybe they'll put a decent side out.

We should be aiming to finish above Palace. Although they look to have a stronger starting 11, they have a weak under belly a little like Fulham

Play like we did at Wolves and we'll pick up plenty of points in our last 5 games.Top Claret wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 1:58 pmWe should be aiming to finish above Palace. Although they look to have a stronger starting 11, they have a weak under belly a little like Fulham
Palace however don't have a bad looking run-in on paper, Sheff Utd, Southampton, Villa, Arsenal & Liverpool, they'll surely feel there's points in that batch of games for them, and the big boost for the Eagles is the return of Zaha, he can win games on his own.

Re: Today's football 01/05
It’s been discussed before but because they play so high most of their fouls are on the halfway line. Refs go soft on them even though some could be seen as GSOs.
Re: Today's football 01/05
And Fernandinho in particular is shrewd enough to never argue with the ref and draw more attention to himself. Just quickly gets up and moves away.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 2:07 pmIt’s been discussed before but because they play so high most of their fouls are on the halfway line. Fernandinho is a master of the dark acts, most people would call it cynical, but when it's City it's clever play apparently.

Re: Today's football 01/05
Finished 0-0 in the Sheff Wed game, so Derby only need a point at Swansea to ensure their Championship survival.
City strolled to victory so a win over West Ham could see us jump as high as 13th.

Re: Today's football 01/05
Rochdale losing and heading to League 2.
Shrewsbury 2-1 up on Steve Cotterill's welcome return.
Cheltenham trailing at Newport, and in severe danger of blowing the title.
Adam Phillips starting for Accy, and Bobby Thomas starting for Barrow, good to see them getting regular action in recent weeks, they both need to be playing games no matter what level it's at.

Derby winning.
Bolton drawing and Morecambe winning, if it stays that way Morecambe still have a small chance of automatic promotion on the final day.
That Exeter equaliser is also a big lift for Cheltenham in their quest to claim the title.

Re: Today's football 01/05
1-1 at Swansea maybe not all over yet in the Champ relegation scrap.
Looks grim for Rochdale though now 2-0 down to Donny.
2-1 Swansea Derby might yet be in trouble.

Re: Today's football 01/05
Brighton dominating a very poor Leeds. Should be 3 or 4 already but still 1-0 due to Brighton’s woeful finishing
Re: Today's football 01/05
I hope they packed enough for a couple of weeks and they are still on it in a fortnight

Matt Grimes looks pretty good for Swansea. Might be within our price range if Swansea fail in the play offs.

Re: Today's football 01/05
Story of Brighton's season in a nutshell, they play teams off the park, but lack the killer instinct to finish games off when they should.
It won't cost them this season, but if they don't remedy this glaring issue they might find it hampers them next season also.

Chelsea make 5 changes for Fulham game. Konte and Pulisic are among the absentees !!!

Been watching BHA v Leeds. 2-0, now. If this Leeds team turn up we win but I doubt it will. They’ve been shocking.

Good shout he's entering the final year of his contract soon, so assuming they don't win promotion he might well be on his way.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 4:32 pmMatt Grimes looks pretty good for Swansea. Might be within our price range if Swansea fail in the play offs.
Still only 25 believe it or not, and yet another who came through the Exeter conveyor belt, defensive midfielder by nature, but if we could shift Stephens on and get this lad in as his replacement it wouldn't half lower our average age, and that is something we strongly need to consider in our summer transfer dealings. far too many the wrong side of 30 already in the squad, and that urgently needs to addressed.

Re: Today's football 01/05
Hmm! Leeds have done well, but they spent a reasonable amount last summer, I can't see Norwich spending anything like that amount, and indeed they may even lose one or two despite their PL return, I suspect if you offered any Norwich fan 4th bottom now they'd bite your hand off.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 4:49 pmHow good are Norwich!!! Sam Vokes just missed a sitter from 5 yards out, he's not the force he once was is he.

Re: Today's football 01/05
What a game at Peterborough, losing 0-3 to Lincoln, Posh came back and secured a point with a peno 6 mins into injury time, which promotes them to the Championship.

Re: Today's football 01/05
Some game at Peterborough, Lincoln were 3-0 to the good, before Posh fought back to earn a draw with a penalty on the last kick of the game, and that is enough to take them up.
That's what makes football unmissable this type of end of season drama.
Rochdale relegated as expected.
Cheltenham lose but still have the title in their own hands next week, only Cambridge can stop them now after Exeter's late winner at Bolton. And that Bolton reverse means Morecambe are now back in the automatic race.

Re: Today's football 01/05
In a season of incredibly bad decisions I've just seen the most ridiculous of the lot.
Last minute at Peterborough the ball falls to Szmodics he turns but it gets away from him and he spins and jumps into the Lincoln defender who is at least a yard away..flattens him and the ref gives him a penalty. The ref was right there. They score and the point gets them promotion.
Is there no depth to how bad refereeing decisions get? I am literally gobsmacked at how bad a decision it was.

Why would someone get wound up by a post complimenting a team who's walked the Championship and suggests their fans might have their sights set on doing better than merely surviving next season?
You'd have to live a pretty sad life if a reasonable post on topic like mine upset you

Re: Today's football 01/05
True but neither are Burnley, Newcastle or Southampton, but nobody seriously thinks any of those teams will be relegated, of course if Fulham do win at Chelsea then that might just make a few managers and teams twitchy, but in all likelihood the current bottom 3 will be the final bottom 3.
