Aaron Ramsdale - Top Of Our Wish List
Aaron Ramsdale - Top Of Our Wish List
Our good friend Alan Nixon is linking us with Aaron Ramsdale in the summer if Nick Pope is sold.
Interesting line in the article that the owners are willing to sell to buy players as long as the new ones have the potential to bring in more in the future.

Re: Aaron Ramsdale - Top Of Our Wish List
Can’t see it happening.
I would expect BPF to be our new number one if Pope is sold, with a new understudy brought in.
I sincerely hope we can keep hold of Pope, though.

Wont be first time we've benefited from Eddie Howe's brilliance in spotting a young player with amazing potential
Re: Aaron Ramsdale - Top Of Our Wish List
I’d be disappointed to see Pope leave but on the other hand, the approach stated is something I’ve been advocating for a long time.
That being said, it’s very easy for the likes of me to suggest a buy relatively cheaply and sell for big money strategy, doing it successfully is another thing.

I am concerned that Nick Pope, who saves more points than any keeper, could be sold. I am also concerned that James Tarkowski, who blocks most, is likely to go and Dwight McNeil, who lays on most crosses for goals, is also on a sought after list.
Any of those 3 going, would lessen our team and points.

From what Ive seen of Ramsdale, he's awful. I'll concede he's been playing behind some terrible defences though

He's rubbish. Makes so many mistakes. Makes Pickford look competent. One of the reasons Sheff U have been so bad this season.
Re: Aaron Ramsdale - Top Of Our Wish List
If we did lose Pope I would hope that BM and SD believes BPF is good enough to be number one with a new understudy brought in. I'm more concerned about losing Tarky, Andersen at Fulham would be a good replacement.

Re: Aaron Ramsdale - Top Of Our Wish List
I've obviously no firm basis for this, but my impression is that Pope and Tarks are two very different kinds of characters and whilst I fully understand why Tarks is looking for his "big move" and will probably get it in the summer (even though I think he's making a mistake tbh) I don't feel Pope either needs or wants that move. He's getting picked for England as it is and it's entirely in his own hands to cement himself at the top of the pecking order there, he's under no pressure at his club as the back up is nowhere near as good or as competent and he'll be on more money than he can really ever spend. Plus, he always comes across as a very humble and very grateful chap who knows all about rejection in footy and about buggering about in non league and I suspect he's already the kind of guy who is more than happy with where he's got to. Course if the club really want to cash their chips in then it's a different matter.

You mean Aaron Ramsdale ... that keeper that has been relegated in consecutive seasons ... no thanks.
BPF in goal for me if Nicks sold in the summer.

Re: Aaron Ramsdale - Top Of Our Wish List
It's a bit of a cheat, but the season before he was on loan at Chesterfield for a bit - who also went down.
That wasn't really down to him. He was the best of the loanees filling in for the injured Tommy Lee.

BPF was rejected by Leeds for very good reasons. He is not PL standard and would like to see some logical reasons why posters believe he is good enough.
Ramsdale is not good enough either.

I hope we don’t sign any keepers from clubs that have just been relegated.
They never turn out to be any good.

Pope was relegated from Championship, as was Heaton. Both turned into Premier league international goalkeepers. BPF is already an International goalkeeper. Deserves a chance.

With this thread and others it seems if Pope and Tarks leave this summer, Some posters have already identified BPF as the fall guy. If Nick Pope does leave in the summer, I think the lad should be given a chance and our support!

Never underestimate the singleminded nature of a professional athlete. That drive brought them to this point, that drive will propel them to play at the highest level they can given their talent.
Pope is a champions league player. He will move to become that. Hopeful Dyche takes him to Spurs for 50 million.

Re: Aaron Ramsdale - Top Of Our Wish List
Ramsdale cost £18 million when Sheff Utd signed him.
We aren't going to pay that for him, as they're going to want to recoup that fee.
Some on here are adamant we'd struggle to get £30 million plus for Pope because of his kicking, yet we are being linked with s goalie who's been the first one I can recall to get relegated from the PL in successive seasons and has already made 3 mistakes leading to a goal in less games than its taken Pope to reach 4.
Ramsdale isn't good enough as it stands, Mercer may be able to fix him, but our defence won't have confidence in him, same as they didn't with Hart.
BPF has earned his chance to replace Pope.

Please god NO!!
This fella doesn’t appear to communicate with his defence at all. Another of a whole bunch of young keepers with fantastic reflexes to make saves but can’t boss their box.

If we had the choice I think Johnstone or Even Darlow would be good options.
I think Ramsdale would cost too much. They would surely look to recoup the amount they spent.

SJ is 28, not young by any stretch although not old either. Probably peak time for a goal keeper with probably 4 more seasons of his best years infront of him.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 9:17 amIf Pope does leave, and I sincerely hope I am wrong, the keeper to target is Sam Johnston of WBA. Back to the Pope sale discussion, if we can get 45m for him, then he has to go, to allow us to buy 2 maybe 3 players, of which 2 MUST be 1st team starters, which in turn improves the squad.
None of these cheap ageing players that will do a job route that Mike was bringing in. ( although we've found out why that was the case now )

Personally think if we sell Tarks or Pope, we’d struggle to stay up next year whoever we replace them with. Our results without either this year being the warning sign.MACCA wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 9:26 amSJ is 28, not young by any stretch although not old either. If we sold both in one summer I can’t see any way we survive.
If ALK have any ambition they should be trying to keep them all and build around them, particularly next season given we have some significant recruitment needs even before considering letting our best players go.

Just to put into context Ramsdale is 22. Pope was playing non-league football at the same age. Ramsdale has had 2 seasons playing premier League football. You'd have to assume Ramsdale can improve massively under our defence and goalkeeping coach with BPF as number 2

Re: Aaron Ramsdale - Top Of Our Wish List
If we think BPF could make the step up in the next year or two I wonder if we'd be better going for an experienced keeper to take the number one spot for a year while he helps bring him through....step forward Tom Heaton on a free transfer.

Re: Aaron Ramsdale - Top Of Our Wish List
Johnstone is a good shout, Burnley would be appealing because we are known to give keepers a chance and also have top notch coaching.
The issue here though is whether Pope would want to go. Plenty of examples of keepers playing for England and then disappearing despite being of a reasonable age for a keeper after they lose their spot at their clubs or get injured (Hart, Forster etc). If Nick was top dog for a big six club fair enough, but sitting on the bench wouldn’t help him imho.
Tarky is a different issue - he’s frozen out for England and more club sides rotate defenders and / or play three CBs, so he may feel it is worth the risk. If West Ham beat us tomorrow and get into Europe that would be appealing to him I’d guess.
Ultimately though, for both Dyche and his top players, on big money and a big profile at Burnley, there’s an argument for “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Life is full of unintended consequences. The grass may seem greener, but....
