Formation for Fulham game
Formation for Fulham game
For me, a midfield five - JBG, Brownhill, Westwood, Cork, McNeill
JC and AW just don't have the pace/strength to control the central midfield area as a pair
Yes, it worked against Wolves but they are very average at the moment (especially when Moutinho doesn't play) and WBA certainly bossed that central area on Monday night
Wolves also offered very little up front against us (since losing Jimenez they look very lightweight)
Fulham also look short up front and Monday is a "no lose" game so beefing up midfield should ensure at least a point
Have enjoyed seeing Vydra play lately but needs must dictate a solid base to our formation from the start - we can chase the game later if we have to

Re: Formation for Fulham game
We were so unlucky to lose at OT with that formation. Has to be the way to go. Plenty of strikers to bring on if needed.

Same team for me. Fulham are no West Ham and Vydra does not deserve to be dropped. A lot of over-reaction on here to the West ham game. They are a really good side this year.

I understand the OP's sentiments, but i'm with the carrot. Let 'em have another game i say, i quite like it. We have enough (if you remove the basic defensive errors) to see them off with some to spare i fancy.

An absolute 'must win' for Fulham and for us 'not lose'.
But I'd like to think we'll go for a win to put any fears to bed.
Fulham will have to go for it and hopefully we can exploit that
rather than play safe with just one up front so I'd start
with Vydra and Wood and hope we can create a few decent chances
and score a goal or two.

Re: Formation for Fulham game
Take the game to them. Go on the front foot.
Going for a draw will invariably end in defeat.
They aren’t a side to be fearful of. We pasted them in the cup. And they need the win. We don’t.

Re: Formation for Fulham game
Let’s go 3 keepers back 5 midfield duo and a striker.

442 but be prepared to get Jay .JBG and Ash on earlier if we aren't up at half time

Re: Formation for Fulham game
I don't think it's the answer against poorer opposition. Definitely a good idea in harder fixtures though.
We have to approach the game like Crystal Palace away and get on the front foot and score early.
If we perform well and go in front their morale will drop. If we get two it should be enough to make them give up.

Yeah, Jay was excellent when he came on. Apart from missing the sitter and contributing nothing. But hey, if he’s one of our own then he surely deserves to play.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 2:39 am442 but be prepared to get Jay .JBG and Ash on earlier if we aren't up at half time

Confident that we will send Fulham down next Monday, even a West Ham performance should be enough

Re: Formation for Fulham game
I would like to see Wood and Barnes up front, sit on and neutralise their central defenders, stop them playng out from the back , occupy and frustrate them all over the pitch. Then go and pinch a goal.
Re: Formation for Fulham game
The pressure is all on them. I'd still go with a 4-4-2 and pick them off on the counter

Re: Formation for Fulham game
I'd go 4-5-1 too.
I don't care about the performance on Monday. Fulham will be going all out for the three points and, lets face it, we've not done well against teams around us this year. I just want a point and then we can enjoy the last three games, potentially trialling some different formations and continue some of the more progressive football we have been playing recently. Vydra can play every minute of those three.

Re: Formation for Fulham game
Attack simple as. Fulham have shown in the last 3/4 games the moment they go behind heads drop and belief goes. Start like we did vs Wolves, on the front foot and put them to bed with an early goal or maybe 2!
Sitting back will lead to them being on top and encouraging them. Got to be ruthless.

Re: Formation for Fulham game
You could put 5 across the middle and concede to a fluke of a deflection, as we did at home, or a crap VAR decision. What do we do then with 5 across midfield.
Fulham are very average, out of sorts, and some people think we should hand them the initiative.
Same team, and stuff em is my idea. They'll be nervous, but forced to go for it, which will leave gaping holes at their back. I'd be more inclined to play 433, than 451. As it is 442 will do just fine.

Re: Formation for Fulham game
I normally bang the drum for 4-5-1 against top teams with pace/skill and changing to this formation when our midfield is being overrun . So against Fulham , our midfield can more than match them and their defence is pretty dodgy therefore 4-4-2 .

Re: Formation for Fulham game
Anyone else pouring over the next few games for us and Fulham and getting repeated visions of relagation?

Nine points clear with four to play should tell you all you need to know.CaptainKirk wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 10:38 amAnyone else pouring over the next few games for us and Fulham and getting repeated visions of relagation?

Re: Formation for Fulham game
Still in an incredibly strong position if that's the case.
You seem to neglect the fact that Fulham have to win ALL four remaining matches to have a good chance of stopping up.
Aside from ourselves and Newcastle they have Southampton & Man U. away. Southampton are likely to still need points for safety when they play them.

Re: Formation for Fulham game
I'd be inclined to go with a similar set up as against United.
Fulham are a technically good side. If we can stifle their midfield, we can certainly hurt them at the back (and we will).
